R/Rt Weapon Spells and Arrows
Samurai-JM
I've been doing a lot of testing on R/Rt builds lately, and heres a few combos that I have found. Mainly Channeling has come up as the most useful, but the other weapon spell categories show some promise as well.
Channeling Weapons
Obviously what everyone is talking about:
[skill]Splinter Weapon[/skill][skill]Barrage[/skill]
This allows a ranger to take out entire mobs in 2-3 shots and teams with this can literally deal THOUSANDS of damage instantly. Great for PvP and AB.
A combo that works great against casters is this:
[skill]Warmonger's Weapon[/skill][skill]Quick Shot[/skill]
It can straight interupt a caster for 12 of every 20 seconds easily with very little energy needed. Much better on smaller scale battles such as RA or TA, even 1v1. Wailing Weapon can also be carried here to interupt Assassins, Warriors, and Dervishes.
How about an armor ignoring, life stealing spike of 100+ damage?
[skill]Nightmare Weapon[/skill][skill]Dual Shot[/skill][skill]Distracting Shot[/skill]
Distracting can be switched to savage, quick shot, or any "timed cast" arrow attack. These certain attacks follow immediately after the previous attack without needing to pull the string back again. The damage doesn't matter as nightmare weapon increases all damage to a fixed amount, makes it armor ignoring, and life stealing. Great in team spike builds.
Communing Weapons
[skill]Brutal Weapon[/skill]
Great when combined with preperations to just add spike damage to any ranger attacks.
[skill]Guided Weapon[/skill]
Useful against other rangers or warriors with blocking stances.
[skill]Xinrae's Weapon[/skill]
Currently looking for a good use here, could be very useful in shutting down casters without having them notice what even happened.
Restoration Weapons
[skill]Resilient Weapon[/skill]
Great self heal and anti-condition/hex spell.
[skill]Weapon of Shadow[/skill]
A new throw dirt/whirling defense perhaps?
[skill]Weapon of Warding[/skill]
Weaker versions of Troll Unguent and Whirling Defense combined!
Anyway, my point is that theres ALOT of possible combinations here, can anyone see some good build ideas?
I currently use this build in Fort Aspenwood on the Luxon side to earn 10k+ faction in a few hours. Its amazing at taking out mines, gates, and the final bosses by itself.(as long as there are no good bonders)
[skill]Splinter Weapon[/skill][skill]Barrage[/skill][skill]Nightmare Weapon[/skill][skill]Dual Shot[/skill][skill]Distracting Shot[/skill][skill]Whirling Defense[/skill][skill]Troll Unguent[/skill][skill]Favorable Winds[/skill]
Splinter Barrage kills Mine Cleaners and Gate NPCs in less than 20 seconds, and the NM Weapon combo kills single enemies relatively quickly while healing as well.

Nice article, indeed weapon spells from the ritualist can be great in non-cast professions since weapon spells cannot be removed and can exist next to preps and stances. I myself am currently experimenting with rit weapon spells in paragons
Though I dont really see how [skill]Xinrae's Weapon[/skill] is going to fit into a ranger, 25 un-expertised energy is quite a bite out of your pool, for a weapon with short duration and long recharge, though this shouldnt discourage you, I like it when people think outside the box
[skill]Barrage[/skill] + [skill]Splinter Weapon[/skill] is a classic, allthough thousands of damage instantly seems a bit exaggerated.

I've been using Perpared shot with splinter weapon lately, using a combo of:
Duel shot
Forked arrow
Perpared shot
Ignite arrows
Splinter weapon.
Does some sweet AoE without so much energy burden(I run only 7 expertise), and it's not boring old barrage. And this can do more focused damage one 1 foe, unlike barrage.

Not really, you can't even keep this prep up all the time. The burning is great but this elite is just weak. If you just want to go for constant interrupts Choking Gas + Practiced Stance is the better choice.

oh, you cant? ever heard of Serpents Quickness? you need practised for choking gas as well, so its 2 skills each build to keep eachother up. except one got burning. -_- cookie cutter ftw?
btw, spamming quickshot is eventually becoming very energy heavy^

Small point, most people forget that it's not anathema to bring two preps in certain limited circumstances.
EG: instead of choking/practiced... you can bring choking/incendiary... and not worry about self-cancelling your stances w/ practiced and whatever else. They're both half-duration preps compared to their 24s recharge, so they're complimentary in that you can alternate them.
to the OP:
the problem w/ most of the restoration weapon spells is you can get the same effect for a lot less by staying in class. If you're going to spend an energy premium to use a non-expertise skill.. it better be really good. The 2 second activation on weapon of warding for the short duration isn't that much better than the 3s on troll, and you get a fraction of the protection/healing for 3 to 5 times the cost.
Similarly, most of the weapon spells work much better as buff spells cast by a rit primary on someone else, not as self buffs. Pretty much anything w/ a cost of 10 or more and a shorter duration isn't too usefull to a non-rit primary.
Splinter weapon works well, because it's CHEAP (roughly the same cost as a 10 energy bow attack, and roughly the same damage). And the time isn't wasted... the 1.75s adds the adjacent damage to your next attacks.
Xinrae's weapon is mostly a PvE skill. Try casting it on your tank, and laughing at the fire imps or the like... as massed mobs of identical pvE caster monsters suddenly disable their entire skill bars giving you a massive head start on destroying them.

noob question, but are weapon spells effected by expertise? i was told expertise had a effect on binding rituals :O

That's interesting usage, but I would have thought since it's an anti-spike skill (HA) it's probably more useful in PvP. The Irony ...

Assume Rt/R:
1. Splinter Weapon trigger 5 times and 50 damage each at 15 channeling. 2. If all arrows trigger, that will be 250 instant armor ignoring damage. 3. The process repeat, you'll get 500 damage over 3 seconds. 4. If repeat again, you can get 750 damage over 8 seconds. The damage diminishes quickly over time due to Splinter Weapon's recharge time. This, however, is already better than any nuke Sigh...I been shouting all day today in DoA as Splinter Barrage and nobody wants me... lightblade

Weapon Spells
Firestone
tried warmonger weapon spell before.. not really suitable for shooting wif bow... the shoot speed is too slow to catch all the skills that are 2 sec ( which is most)

Flurry FTW, for an interrupter 2 secs is an eternity. That said, its not like you will always get *everything* interrupted, it's just our goal ;P. Just load warmongers on a caster to use on you. Or the unthinkable, only use a beast mastery speed buff.
