about a month after factions was released i was through with the game and had about 75% of the map explored. a few days ago i decided to try for grandmaster cartographer of cantha. it only took me 3 days to get from 75% to 100% and i found it rather easy and it was much easier than i thought it would be. currently, i have exactly 75% of tyria explored and i see many, many, many areas i need to uncover. i was wondering if you thought cantha or tyria was harder to uncover 100%.
mapping tyria compared to cantha

i don't know, i haven' treally focused on tyria much, but it sorta depends on cantha. cantha can be hard if you can't find the 1% that's NOT from the jade quarry. was hard for me at least, i ended up needing the jade quarry _._ tyria is bigger, yes, but so is elona and i'm finding elona easier to map than cantha. cantha has a lot of little knooks and crannies i think.
though tyria has a lot of space, you also have to factor in where the edges are and all the other little details are with the other campaigns. i think factiosn was harder BECAUSE it was so small.
but that's just me :O

the thing is, Tyria was designed before the explorer title was conceived. As such, there is a lot more wall hugging necessary to uncover some pretty strange corners and nubs that it wouldn't look like you should be able to enter. Also, since many explorable areas in Tyria are only accessible during mission bonus areas (THK, the one where charr chase you back to the beginning, the crystal desert one that's popular with necrotic transversal), that also makes TGMC harder, let alone simply how much more massive Tyria is than Cantha
I also find Cantha easier because practically every area has at least one outpost/mission/stop off point adjacent to each area (I think theres one in the Echovald Forest (scum territory), that has an outpost in all 4 corners). However, Tyria has some really awkward places that require travelling (Hmmm, LORNAR'S PASS, dreadnought's drift, snake dance (because it takes a long time to get all the way up), talmark wilderness (in kryta though so not too hard), Mineral Springs, etc.)
Aww, Snake Dance is fun! I enjoyed mapping that.
I would have to say Tyria is more tricky to map than Cantha. Cantha was easier due to the fact that in Tyria things pop out of the ground every two friggin' steps. I'm currently at 96.4% explored Tyria. I have both Cantha and Elona. Tyria is made more annoying by the fact that a lot of areas are within missions. Not difficult to get to...just more annoying than anything else.

Well the Jade Quarry has always be a issue due to the lack of people being there. But if you can get only 16 people (8 on each side) to map there, it can be done easily.
Of course mapping the Boardwalk area during events is much easier. And its a area normally closed off to non-Canthan born character.
I for one got Cantha GMC without having access to boardwalk.
