I think there's actually a costume maker in the Bokuun Amphitheatre, you could probably tie it in with her somehow.
Anyway, great idea.

Let's hope ANet isn't stubborn again by saying that most people still want another set of minis. There should be some restrictions to them though, I personally think it should be town-only, because I really wouldn't want to be running around in a group of non-humans in every mission.

I want to be a Vermingggg!!! The cutest monster ever!
Since the Form/Disguise mechanic is already inserted, changing models should not be a problem.

It's a nice party favor idea, but I would still rather have the option to actually play as another race altogether, with a light selection of their own armors and such.
We actually already have morphing potions and such which allow us to take the appearance of different creatures at certain occasions, it is pretty simple to offer us creature skins, but I wouldn't settle for an imitation, when actually playing as different races with additional story content and features would be much more enjoyable.

Not sure about this one, if used in explorable areas it could get annoying if a character looks like the monsters being fought, could lead to some confusion. If used in towns there could be bandwidth issues, there are already players who are affected by minipets in towns.

Even adds another market to make gold. Though it would be overly confusing in towns when you are trying to find parties, perhaps an option that also allows you to see through disguises if you don't want to see them? This also eliminates your "lag" issue, although it would only be a video lag fix as you'd still have the network loading everything in the background if you could turn it on or off.

In missions they even have the tag over their head.
But I understand your point having 80 tengu's running around and having to click all of em O_o
Storage is always needed especially with things like this or even the 2nd year pets (if we get pets that is).

Although I said this before...
It would be much nicer if you actually have to collect materials for the disguise itself.
Add taylors across Guild Wars (per specific region)
Ascalon Area: Charr disguise
-60 tanned hides
-20 charr hides
-20 charr carvings
-15 charr armor (ash fiend trappings, axe fiend armor)
Lions Arch Area: Tengu disguise
-60 feathers
-20 caromi scalps
-20 tanned hides
-15 heavy tengu armor
Lions Arch Area 2: Undead disguise
- 60 bones
- 20 decayed orr emblems
- 50 piles of glittering dust
- 20 decayed orr armor
well you get my drift...
- Increasing in difficulty to obtain (items and such) would give the disguises a certain unique-ness.
- Will boost the market.
- Gives people something fun to do (not just waiting around some event to find item in inventory).
- also hide the taylors in the explorable area's just for the extra fun of searching you behinds off.
Would you farm FoW for a disguise to make you look like this?
Oops I meant THIS!!!

I love the idea above. This would make the disguises mostly accessible to all, but make you work to get them.
Personally i think disguise vendors should be in towns and only sell disguises for creatures common to their area, so if you want a tengu disguise you could go to most places in Cantha, but only Lion's Arch in Tyria and not at all in NF. If you want a Coursair disguise, you can only get it in Kamadan and Nundu Bay in NF, but nowhere else and if you want a Stone Summit Dwarf, you can only get it in Yak's Bend or Droks (as an example).
Btw: Please add Naga disguises to the list

Right I was pro trading the disguises, but with this new idea it should be customized.
Also I realized that dropped armor doesn't stack so Tengu that drop "Heavy Tengu Armor" should occasionally drop "Old Heavy Tengu Armor" = quest item = stackable, storage space is small as it is.
Maybe an additional bag, backpack or better even a storage tab for all disguises with as many free slots as there are disguises ingame (update when new ones become available)

i dont like this idea to be honest
it will take away the point of making a character in the beginning.
more people will play in the costumes then their normal guy.
and plus gw2 is gonna have newer races to play as---so i dont see the point of this

I'd love animal disguises, like bear, that would be very cool. also Titan or afflicted, and like mini pets they could be white, purple, gold , green, but these items would have to be made rare, very rare. the current price of mini pets is pathetic, nothing special about them. 2nd year birthday present would be nice to get them for.

Well, Rurik disguise would not be a good thing, IMO. It would only lessen Rurik's uniqueness. Race and organisation disguises such as Stone Summit, White Mantle dusguises would be very cool though.
MithranArkanere
The idea of the disguise crafters is the best I've seen in the game.
Being it not 'instant' not everyone will get one.
They could make the disguises to be different for some creatures:
As you know, a charr necromancer has not the same model as a charr elementalist.
That would prevent eveyone looking the same, since is not very usual to have a party made of the same class (very possible, but not usual)

I do like the disguise idea, I just don't think they should be craftable.
