PvE help

did a little search but nothing really jumped out to help me.

First off, I am a new player and game with my wife. We are level 10/11, and have been using henchmen which is ok for some quests. Now we are at the point where we feel we need 4 actual players to help us in our quests because the henchmen wander off to get killed too much.

So here are my questions.

1) what is the best way to get people to join you for quests? I have done the seeking player window but no one ever joins us.

2) what good are guilds for PvE? if we joined a guild would we be able to get people to do quests with us etc.? Just a note, I am a competitive player for other games and over time may transition to PvP but for now, I am just playing the quests with my wife.

1. Unfortunately, the quest menu goes unused more times than not. Until people start to use it more, the best way to try and get a party would be to use Chat to advertise. It may not be effective, but it's the only thing that people use.

2. Most guilds all have some kind of PvE in them. Only the hardcore PvP guilds ignore PvE entirely, so really your choice is up to personal preference. Early on you may be going into and out of a lot of guilds as you get a feel for what you like specifically in a guild, but it shouldn't take too long to find a guild to settle down into.

1. Basically, you just stand around spamming "LFG for mission/quest" if you are alone or "GLF more for mission/quest" if the two of you are gaming together.

2. In our Guild Assistance forum there is a sticky thread on "Introduce Your Guild" in which guilds describe themselves in an attempt to attract members.
You can select one that is geared toward PvE and ask to talk to the leadership to determine if you will fit in with their group.

ok, what does LFG and GLF stand for?

lfg = Looking For Group

glf = Group Looking For

Basically, they're opposites that do the same thing of forming a group, the first is spammed by an individual that is trying to find a group, and the second is used for a group looking for more people.

It's always helpful to state what your profession and level is when looking for a group. Example: "W/Mo12 LFG for ___this incredibly fun thing___."

Joining a guild is great way to learn about the game and to get help with missions/quests. It also can help with making sure you don't get scammed and making your GW experience a positive one overall.

I don't want to jump to assumptions about your age, but since you're married you might be more comfortable with more mature gamers. If so, you might want to check out The Older Gamers [TOG]. We're primarily PvE and quite helpful.

Just a wondws tip in general that many players know but some do not. If you want to copy and paste something in your chatbox a few times, highlight it sn do ctrl + c to copy, and ctrl + v whenever you want to paste. took me like a month to figure that one out.

While searching for a guild, you should stay away from the ones spamming in the chat window for members or that ask you to pay the 100g invite fee. The first are usually startups with little of value for other new players, and the second are tacky.

Other ways to search for a guild is while gaming.

1. If you join a group for a mission or quest and have a good time, talk to some of the group members about their guilds. Most good guilds don't allow their members to flame PuG players or refer to everyone as noobs.

PuG = pick up group

2. While hanging around a town or outpost if you see a player helping another in the chat window with info or whatever, try talking to them about their guild. Good guilds attract nice players.

Here are some general tips I recommend for your first time through:

-Try to avoid getting run through the game area (if you're starting out in Ascalon), or missions (all chapters). They may be hard for you at first but they will still be there when you gain experience and come back. You will learn about how the game works through various quests and skills as you fight.

-If you get a dye, don't sell it to the merchant for 1g. Dye traders offer much more for it depending on colour (black dyes go for around 10,000g g/t 1k or so).
-Selling any other items (in the beginning of the game anyways), is a good way to make extra gold. As you advance in the game, you will get better equipment and weapons. If they are better than yours, use them. If not, sell them or salvage them for crafting material. When I first started out I sold everything blue (after identifying it via an ID kit), and salvaged everything white (referring to the item's name colour).
-If you want to sell dyes, runes, insignias, common and rare crafting materials, check with the traders (insignias are from rune traders too) for a general price guide. They will provide you with a quote at what they sell for (higher price) and what they will buy yours for (lower range). Try to sell somewhere in between.
-if you're looking to buy an item you can also enter in chat "PC on <item name>". This will give you a "Price Check" on the item. Since people don't know if you're buying or selling the item there's good chance you'll get something close to that price. Wait until you get several quotes before you determine its range. You can also check the price in the trade forum. The price may vary depending on the market. This i also useful for finding the approximate price of an item you wan to sell that's not available from merchant.

-NEVER buy armour from another player with intent to use it as armour. It's customized by them and you can't use it, only salvage it. Same goes with customized weapons/items.

Finally, never be afraid to ask questions in towns or outposts. Ignore those who call you noob, but please watch chat for any possible responses before posting it again. I'd like to say not to spam it (type the question in and repeat it immediately 3+ within 0.5 seconds), but that's just my preference.

actually I had found it but spent all of my time looking at the skills etc. rather than the obvious "getting started (prophecies)" section where at the very bottom my questions were answered.

I must say that with the amount of information out there, I am pleased that the community you have here is very helpful in pointing out what to do. In most other forums I probably would have been given a link to google with no explanation.
