What will be the race for C4?
crime.mob
As you all know, each chapter is based off a real-world race/culture and its mythology (partially, im not saying africans ever thought of harpies or walking landmasses). They are also annoyingly ONLY from a single race but thats for another post...
What we don't know is what in the world will they use next? They took out white ppl, black ppl, and azn ppl... what other types of "ppl" are there!? Of course there is brown ppl, but i kindof feel that brown ppl (people from arabic descent) were addressed in Nightfall (vabbi). Indian people could have been clumped into "brown" / arabic people, but their culture and mythology (and armor and weapons) are vastly different from arabic people, making them an option for the next chapter.
Another race they could dig up could be hispanic people, though i would be annoyed if they did because i think they (physically) are a lot like brown people if you just paled their skin a bit. Brown people have wavy hair and so do hispanic people, and also it wouldn't be as big of a "culture shock" if you went from brown to hispanic, as azn to black. However the mythology and locations of hispanic locations are completely different from anything addressed in the previous chapters. Though there would be some overlap in the rainforests (even though i don't think rainforests and jungles are the same thing...) the landscape of latin america and culture was not touched in Nightfall.
Also, they could clump "hispanic" people into native american people, as they could explore the culture of the aztecs and such. THAT would be a more exciting addition to Guild Wars. Like Elona, where the "south" of Elona is actually similar to the "south" of a real world place (Africa south of the mediteranian -istan- is vastly different from northern africa -vabbi-), they could make the south of the new map the rainforests of some people like the aztecs, and the north echo the Great Plains' native americans.
Europe was probably addressed completely in C1, and so were modern "americans" i guess. So the next "hosts" of guildwars are probably either Indian, hispanic, southern native american, or northern native american (or a mix of several of these cultures). I'm guessing it will most likely take place in the hispanic/native american culture, but you never know- What do you guys think... did i forget about a major culture that Anet will find?
EDIT: ugh this post is getting ugly, yes race was a VERY bad word choice. The purpose of this post was to narrow down on what C4 was going to be based in, as there isnt really much choice, unless Anet decides to make their own culture, they will probably loosely base it off of a real world area or culture not remotely close 2 the past 3 chapters(i hear ppl arguing about how its not based on real world races... im pretty sure Nightfall is hinted with africa as there are barely any caucasian cpus, and same with C1 and C2, but you know what i mean by races, not the context which Survivor jumbled them in, as all the contestants were really "american" in culture )
And someone posted "theres more races than that" and started naming dozens of races, that well, exist, but guildwars seems to use cultures and people more generally, for example nightfall's location was a blend between fiction and several places and people that were "brown" not just african, middleastern, indian, and what not (demonic ); so i think we can narrow down what environment C4 will be based on pretty good.

Prophecies didn't have a theme..
And what's with your hate for Borat? It was probably the funniest movie of 2006. Great satire of the american people.

I think he 'clumped' dwarves, centaurs, charr, and ettins into white people.
EDIT: To clarify... the original post of this thread is very insulting.

They could do a kinda like a Spanish/Aztec theme. I would kinda like to see that.

i dont see the point of this thread at all all it will do is upstir racist comments
i my self was offended by parts of NF and dont really see why we would want to create a breeding ground for distastful humor

The OP seems frank to the point of being borderline insulting. Tread carefully.
I'm curious as to what portions of that game offended you.

Although in real life these cultures are all extremely different and interesting in their right, when used as a theme in guildwars they wouldn't have a strong enough contrast with that of nightfall to hold the interest of players in a new chapter. Also, do we really want to see a fourth chapter that has more obvious cultural parallels with real life?
I would like to see an unexlored frontier-like continent or area. Where there isn't an already existing culture or if there is one this would be a great way introduce a new playable humanoid race. I would prefer this place to be a green "pre-searing" kind of place seeing as how we already have the orient (factions) the desert (nightfall and crystal deset) the mountains (shiverpeaks is definately enough for now) jungle (maguuma jungle) and plenty of scorched earth and wasteland.
Aside from this another option would be to "unleash" the underworld and have the nations from all three campaigns having to ally together to delve into and suppress the opposing forces. Yea, I know this concept has been used before, but it doesnt ever seem to lose its inspirational and dire feel. This would be all the more effective in guild wars because the actual player base is very much divided. This general idea has been used a little in Tolkien and obviously in The Elderscrolls (daedra invade cyrodiil from oblivion), but it manifests itself very differently in both cases and after being implemented in guild wars it would be difficult to find any real similarities. The idea would also be better realized in the mmorpg medium.
post carefully everyone

We should have a Chapter 4 speculation FORUM
arcanemacabre
Yeah, I do believe this topic has been discussed what, 20-something times? I dunno. It would be nice to get any information at all about the next chapter. I mean at this point, here at the end of February, we know that Chapter 4 is in the making, and that it is to be released sometime this year - that's it.
I also think that saying what "race" should be in the next chapter is not terribly PC. Now, what cultures might be represented in the next chapter would be better. And as far as that goes, I still hold to a Mayan/Aztec/Native-American -like culture, possibly with an Atlantean mythology for the basis of the storyline. I would personally love that.
LOL @ Borat - still gotta see that movie!

OP should have concentrated on what country or continent the next chapter would be based upon, rather than 'race' since specially nowdays race is a tender word.
I mean theres brutally honest and then theres racism, and both arent soo crash hot. But back to the point, no not every chapter has had a specific real-life country theme.
I feel that for one they made chapters 'reflect' (regrdless on how badly its done) real life areas in order to give peope more choice. This to me was a good thing to have. In a way it helps people appreciate other aspects of the world.
Unforunately from what i can see, near every single Elonian character running around is caucasian which really annoys me, since people arent thinking outside that all too-familiar box, the whole idea of placing the game on another continent is missed

Hmm… I can't make up my mind if the OP is a really smart troll or just plain stupid, but I'm definitely leaning towards the latter. He managed to completely miss the cultural richness explored in Factions and Nightfall, and all he could see was skin color. Now, it takes some skill to be this stupid.
Lord Dobo
Ha! I actually lean towards this being a trolling thread, but if not... he seems to think there are only four cultures on this planet, how wonderful for history terachers. White=white yes? Irish=Russian=South African right? Do I need to go through all the other "colors?"
Anet has more or less "themed" each campaign to a general REGION of earth that only scratches at real world locales and myths. It really mixes them up actually, a big, generic, mixed bag of peoples and cultures that's then zapped and bleached, strained, then rendered down to a fantasy form.
It's a fantasy game. Who says they need to use another region from earth anymore anyways. Each game that's out now already has many seeds in them that can lead in the direction of a new continent in the game anyways, so it could be all original from now on. Let's see if that ever happens.

British! Then they could all sit around drinking tea and eating crumpets and discussing how once they ruled all of Ascalon, Cantha and Elona until they decided to be nice and give them back...

I was liking the rumors of a Viking/scandinavia theme. I am not too picky except that I did not like Kaineng city and vabbi/desolation all started to blend toghter...Just make it diverse...
As for the OP...I am a pretty crass down to earth person...very white...sort of a redneck that moved up the culture ladder a bit, but let's not confuse skin color with culture.
I do like the India theme...seems cool...and how about Central/south america at the time of the conquistadors...ala Balboa as a god to the natives...with boom sticks and plagues..sounds like a musaat with metal plating...
