I just finished Nightfall with my Elementalist yesterday and I feel a bit let down on the end game items that you can purchase with the book of secrets.
Ele weapons:
I was looking forward to getting a nice ele staff, but the stats were not as good as my Ragos flame wand/ kindlerock set, so I didnt get it.
Warrior weapons:
I was looking for a better sword skin to replace my factions sword, it didnt look like anything more than a shadow blade with curves in it, so I didnt get it.
Ranger weapons:
I wanted a cool looking bow to add to my rangers growing collection, unfortunately the end game greens only offered 2 skins. skin 1 looks just like an Ivory bow, and skin 2 looks just like a Rotwing recurve bow. so I didnt get either.
I ended up selling the book for 20k to finance new armor. The Elite Sunspear 15k armor for female ele is beautiful, so I got that. I about puked after looking at picks of the end game armor for eles (big metal sticks poking out everywhere).
I'm just voicing my disappointment. Were you expecting more from the end game items? I certainly was.
Where's the "wow" factor that I'm suppose to feel after beating Abaddon and obtaining the book of secrets.
So, what did you do with your book of secrets?

I've been a little disappointed with both the Factions and the NF endgame items so to answer your question I have sold three books and have two others in case I change my mind and decide to pick up something for myself if I start a new character or provide a hero with something.
Keep pondering the axe, but I'd prefer to get Kanaxi's if he'd ever drop it for me.

Well I happened to need a set of zealous daggers... so
On the other hand, the following day a set of +5e +5armor daggers dropped for me, so now I wish I had just bought a zealous upgrade to put on those.
Seriously though, what did you expect? We all know what the max levels of upgrades are and it would be ludicrous to expect anything more than (possibly) a new spin on those. I think the +15e/-1 staves are interesting though thats a crafter item, not a free green.

Think about it: Some dude in Anet marketing came up with the idea to make the end game green bows in Nightfall the EXACT same skins that drop in Prophecies!?!? WTF was that guy smoking, and who signed off on this idea!
If anyone know the best green fire staff and green bow in Nightfall please let me know. PM if you want.
Thanks
Prophecies rewards = nothing
Factions rewards = somewhat useful greens
Nightfall rewards = better greens
Of course not every item will be useful to each player. But there is a reward and they have been getting better, so I don't see the disappointment really.
AS far as armours are concerned, beauty is still in the eye of the beholder

I think you may be missing the point that the end game items are 'free' and 'certain' max green items. These are not on a random drop chance and are often perfect stats. So the skins may have been borrowed from elsewhere, it does not make them rubbish items. These are bonus items and only meant to be a little well done.
Personally i like the look of the Forgotten Sword, the Forgotten Longbow and the Forgotten Staffs, others will as well.
The trouble with skins for any weapon, shield, armour, etc is that it all comes down to 'personal' preference.
For my ranger, i really didnt like ANY of the NF armor skins, but for my warrior they rocked, but that was my opinion. No matter how an 'end game' item looked, there would be those that loved it and those that hated it.
I will certainly be getting a few more of these before i start selling any books, but the biggest reason i wont use all my books is just that by the time i get to the end of the game, i dont really need everything on offer.

Let's see...
Thus far, i've gotten a Hand of the Forgotten for my Dervish. She uses it almost exclusively. I got the forgotten longbow, since it has the same stats as Drago's Flatbow, but isn't as bulky. I got the Forgotten Sword for my war -- looks pretty spiffy, and a sundering weapon is always useful, IMHO. Most recently, I got a channeling staff for my Rit.
My monk is only a few missions away from endgame. Still haven't decided what to get next.
I'm reasonably happy with the NF engame greens. Only crit I have is they could offer more varied stats for some of the war weapons (they only have one of each type).
Still better than those Prophecies endgame greens.

I think some of you are missing the point here. Yes I know the end game items can be useful, especially for Dervish & Paragon since this chapter is theirs. But what about the core professions? I'll use the ranger again as an example because thats the one that makes the leasts amount of sense so far.
Making the Nightfall end game green bows have the same skins as Prophecy bows gives me no incentive or excitement over using my book of secrets to purchase these bows.
If you want to get technical, these end game green items are not free. I paid for Nightfall and these items are part of the game I purchased.
If I wanted an Ivory bow or Rotwing bow, then I would go to Prophecies to get them.
I'm only making a point that they could have made the end game items a bit more interesting, thats all.

The only Book of Secrets I've turned in so far has been for my Paragon, which I used to get the Courage of the Forgotten spear. Everything else just looked bland to me and the spear was the first max dmg one I've acquired that wasn't req 12 or 13.
I will probably sell the rest of my Books, but I haven't decided yet.

Not everyone who finishes NF owns prophesies.
It's not all about the addicts ;P (I'm one 2)
I fleshed out weapon swaps for lost of my 'backup' characters or as upgrades for my heroes. I don't really care all that much what an item looks like when its not a bow anyways, heh. Well ok, unless they start handing out zodiac swords...

So, we've got people saying the following:
"Yeah, I know they're free, green, and perfect, but just not good enough for ME."
Not everyone has time to farm a boss over and over (or wait til a triple drop weekend), has all 3 campaigns, or has the money to buy their perfect weapon.
I am more than satisfied with the selection in the Throne of Secrets. Fast Cast, and Divine Favor staves ftw. (Would have been nice to be consistent and have Soul Reaping and Energy Storage req staves as well, but meh, I'm all right with that.)
ANet could have gone back to Proph's example and not provided anything at all.
Then where would you be?

I got the Forgotten Recurve Bow for my ranger. I love it. I use it more for PvP than anything due to the cripple duration increase. Sure it's the same skin as the Rotwing but it's white instead of brownish green. I probably wouldn't get any of the others (esspecially the ivory bow skins because well, that IS pushing it a little too far on the unoriginality). It just comes down to tastes.
