I'm so confused, help.

Good day ladies and gents.

I have a couple quick questions for you if you wouldnt mind. I've been looking into maybe picking up a chapter of Guild Wars here soon. I spent a couple years on Final Fantasy Eleven, and nearly a year on World of Warcraft, and would kinda like to try my hand here.

I see the number of 'missions' for the chapters range from 13 to 24, I take it these are standard story progression type missions, while I could still run around aimlessly and complete other random 'quests' if I so desire?

Also, I read somewhere that the max lvl is 20, is this correct? If so, I have to ask, how long does it really take to reach max level, and is the end-game grind really all that horrid, or does it maintain its fun factor? I remember the end-game grind back in FFXI was horrendous, made me want to shoot someone in the face....but anyways.

thats really all i have on my mind at the moment, any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome. Leveing your character to max 20 is fun and when you figure out what you're doing it will take around 6 hours to do. The grind in this game comes with acquiring items such as armor and weapons with enhanced artwork.

Also if u get a char to lvl 20 in 6 hours then you aren't enjoying the game...i think a reasonable answer would be between 3-5 days after you are experienced.

There is a great thread about which chapter to buy I would suggest reading that as well. that is if you aren'g going to purchase all 3 chapters...although they do have a combo package now get all 3 for 99.99 or something like that.

Also try to see if you can get a trial key from someone here to let you try it out etc..

That's depend on which chapter you pick, ch1 will be the longest to get max lv and imo the best chapter for a new player such as yourself. ch2 will be a bit harder for new comer, ch3 is a good alternative but for the timeline sake go for ch1.

As for the quests and missions, the 1st can be pick up and do as you like in any order and in some case the reward will be new skills or items, while the 2nd serve to move you forward in the story.

On the subject of end-game area and grinding, yes you can grind if you want to for gold, items drop and such. There are collectors and traders that will make or trade weapons and armors for a reasonable price, sometime free if you have the right stuff for trade.

One thing to keep in mind, GW is a lot different from WOW & FF11 so keep an open mind and enjoy it

Reaching lvl 20 won't be long and you'll enjoy getting there. Though the real fun begins at lvl 20 imo.

You can either choose to go through the storyline, do side quests that aren't related or do both. Imo doing both is the best way to get skills items, gold etc.

As for grinding you only need to grind if you want to grind. You should get a fair amount of gold just by following the storyline.

Hi Twille, welcome to the forums here, and hopefully welcome to GW too!

One of the things that makes GW atypical of other mmorpgs is that it was designed to be anti-grind. That means the level cap is reached in a matter of days, or even hours (much longer for a new player who wants to see everything the game has to offer, of course), and you don't actually NEED to grind for cash and weapons if you don't want to. The GW economy is such that probably 80% of the cost of an item to buy form another player (especially rare stuff) is paying for the rarity of the skin. Mods have little to do with it, since they are easy to come by.

After you reach level 20, there's still well over half the game to play at high level. Enemies can get up to level 28 (there are a few special baddies at 30 or 31, but generally 28 is max for enemies).

The level cap is my favorite part of GW. It completely takes out the grind to get to the highest level you possibly can, and lets you have more fun.

use search and u will find that many like u have asked the same questions before. i have replied in a few so i should know. but basically coming from WoW i expect that you will be amazed by the scenery and the graphics but disappointed at the gameplay and the attitude of the community. I say if u like PvP u will might enjoy GW but if u don't there is nothing else to do after finishing the game then to farm gold.

After you finish the Pve...there's another 5 or 6 professions to play!

There's no end-game grind. Once you're 20, you're done with the tutorial.

Everything else is the storyline, pvp, quests.

If you do insist on grinding, you can always grind money, but all you can buy with it are weapons/armor that look different, but have same stats.

Hey guys and gals i need some serious help here. I just bought nightfall the other day and i need help getting off of noob island. Im on the quest where i have to either reach lvl 12 first or get sunspear master lutenant, if someone could pm me in game and tell me what to do that'd be great. Well 1st of all you're in the wrong place, Lordofall. For elona question try

2nd in order to advance on sunspear rank on Istan, you need to pick up a bounty from the sunspear scout and kill the monster that will give you sunspear point or some of the quests will give you the points as well.

3rd make a new thread for your question

Getting back to the original post: As compared to just about any other similar game out there, you'll hit your max relatively quickly. GW isn't about grinding to the max level. It's more about being able to successfully and skillfully use your characters' 8 skills and to work well within the framework of a team. Sure, there are plenty enough areas and methods to be able to solo, but the game's strength is in its balance and emphasis on teamwork.
