Inventory management tips?

This is NOT a thread asking for more storage space.
I'm actually interested in finding how you use your available storage space, most especially interested in answers from pack rats (like me).
It's getting a little troublesome to manage the large number of items I just have to keep. Taking the default 9 character slots from 3 campaigns + 1 NF bonus, what's the most useful way to use all your chararacters' slots + the storage?
Do you guys keep the special event stuffs like the recent fireworks, the peppermint/candy stuff, the ghost-in-a-box type of items? How many sets of armor? It sucks that I need at least 4 spaces to keep my whole armor set. And I suppose I should just delete off all my festival hats instead of keeping it....? hmmm

A few tips, keep gloom seeds, Phantom residue, demonic remains etc as they stack and contain between 5 and 15 of plant fibres(seeds) and dust.
Perform salvages,ID's and sorts as soon as you are done in a mission. Only keep anything to sell thats worth over 2K and then sell it right away. Dont keep stuff and think well i'll sell it next week. You never will.
If you can, weekly take a screenshot of all your bags and keep it handy. That way you wont double up on slots for say scrolls etc.
Use the Hat guy where possible.

definitelly Store hats at [festival hats] npc and then delete all but rarest ones (i am keeping 2005 haloween hat as if ever festival hats npc gets bugged i wouldnt loose that one.)
Just set your prioritioes straight:
Will i ever use it? (no point in having tons of snowman summoners if you will not use em, ever, no point in storing armor set that never sees light)
Will i ever be able to sell it? (no point in storing purple items, nonmax damage items or r11-r12-r13 items)
Does it have 'collectors' and 'cool' value? (You do not need to have 5 pieces of gwens tapestry shred)
Can i regain item easily? (why would i store every dye if i can get all dyes i need from trade)

On topic, I only have 1 armor set per character (+ the odd farming set), maybe 2-3 weapons each, and most of the festival items are allready used before the end of the festival.
Oh, and be sure to bring your hats to the Festival Hats NPC. After that, just delete the hats. A little bonus: all your characters get access to that particular Festival Hat after you've showed it to the NPC.

To manage my inventories I keep all my characters using the same method:
Bag 1: Alternate armor and headpeices. (Room for two full sets plus one equipped)
Bag 2: Weapons, minipet, candy canes and other sundries.
I always carry a Superior ID Kit and Superior Salvage Kit, and salvage most things in explorable areas. With a slot in the bag reserved for keys this gives me 20+ free slots on each character for loot.
I also have a single mule for long term storage, and holding things I wish to sell. One of these days I'll create a PvE character mule so I can do any selling with her too

Heroes are also a small but great place to store items that you just can't part with.
They can use your customized items -Koss can have the 3rd sword that you rarely use, Rangers and anyone with a staff or scythe can hold spare shields/offhands.
Every little but helps

I use mule characters. That's characters that I've no intention of playing, just create to use their storage. Of course, you'll need some way of transfering the items to and from your active chars, but a guildy will usually hold something while you swap around.

I have 4 mules. thanks for whopping 20 slots of storage anet.

Mules, and plenty of 'em.
One carries all my useful golds and greens.
One carries minipets, dyes and weapon mods.
Two carry the odds adn ends that I have around.

Best way to manage inventory is to gather up all of your Peppermint Candy Canes, Wintergreen Candy Canes, Gold weapons and offhands, Green weapons and offhands, and Ectos and then click on my player name and then click on Trade. That's it!
<ahem> okay, seriously, I keep a mule character just to supply them with the items I don't actually need for quests and missions like minipets, holiday items, dye, weapon upgrades, inscriptions, runes, and any crafting materials that exceed what the Xunlai storage agents can carry.

Just keep all of your things you find in missions/explorables in your 20 slot backpackthen the bag/belt puch for any of your characters personal things. like armor/weapons/hats.Works very well for me.

i find if you have one bag for armor and weapons and one for anything else youd like to keep. Then salvage and id kits in the belt it leaves your main store free so you can eaisly keep track of how full you are.

All ten of my characters are pseudo-mules, they each get played but they also each act as storage.
I keep each one's backpack empty, for collection and sale of drops during quests/missions, their belt pouches contain salvage/ID kits and weapons in use, first bag for items in storage (dependant on profession, warrior has all my swords, ranger has bows, etc.) and second bag for excess materials, dyes, scrolls, minipets, whatever.
It quite an organized system and I haven't lost track of any saved item I've had over the many months I've been playing.
Oh yeah and, kind of like sixdarbart, I use Heroes to store runes. Just about all of them are loaded with runes of attunement and vitae, among other types.

"Grab and sell" that is my motto for Inventory Management. If you can't sell it, give it out for free. It's just a game!

Really... Anet should have more runes for storage on bags/pouches. It seriously cannot be that difficult, superior rune of storage 1 plat, at ascended towns/missions/outposts.

my player with 45 slots i try to keep empty. 8 other slots with 45 slots each. Storage for the swapping. try to keep each mule for specific stuff that way it is easer to find.
MSecorsky
OK, here's the key. If you PvP, use your PvP characters as mules. Give them bags etc. to max out their storage. This gives you a dual purpose character and doesn't take a slot you may actually use to play with.
Also... learn to part with things you really don't want or need. Because something's gold doesn't mean it gets a permanent home in storage.
Get ALL your heroes. They can store not only weapons and shields, but runes and enscriptions for you. You can salvage a rune or inscription off of a hero with no risk. If you haven't bothered getting Zenmai, for example, on ALL your characters, that's a lot of weapon/shield/focus/rune/inscription storage spaces you're missing out on.

yeah, heroes have saved my bum as i'm a packrat myself.
i'm not too keen on that hat guy though, the dragon festival hat isn't the same when ya get it duplicated. :\ so, on the toons that have the original i've left em be.
i also organize.. one character for staves.. another for holiday stuff.. extra armor.. etc

Winterclaw
what I do most of the time
I try not to break down and waste $9.99 on a mule and cry because I've got too little storage.
what I occasionally try to do on occasion
Try selling all runes/dyes that are pretty cheap for a little extra space. Go through your weapons and offhands periodically and see if there's anything you don't want or have newer/better of. If you have too many weapons, see if there are some mods you can salvage from one weapon and put on another. Try not to have too many weapons of the same type if possible (I'm bad with this one). Only keep the armor you really need (I'm bad with this one as well, my el and mes still have their starter armors).
Throw away your holiday junk if you aren't going to use it.
Try to share weapons and offhands between your PCs as you can. For instance you don't need more than one -50 offhand on your account.
Or you can be like dral and have 1 monk + infinate storage bunnies.

Mules. Most are pretty well full but I have one thats empty in case I want to use one of my level 20 mules for some reason.
Viruzzz
rather than 1 mule i have stuff stored on all my characters, and i switch around, it depends on what I'm not really using at the time, and i try to keep my storage empty so transfer is quick.
Like right now my elementalist is filling my mule role. carrying dye, very few minipets, collectible weapons (she is carrying around the ice breaker, totem axe, red fan, and an Icy dragon sword) i like the items, don't have much real value, but i like the looks, also i usually keep an extra stack or 2 of the base materials on her, since i got a few friends to play and they'll all be wanting new armor soon.
i don't have many minipets, but keep the most in storage, that way i can run around with them in town, just run to storage guy and double click on them.
I barely save anything i get from playing, and if i ever do it wont be more than 1 or 2 in total, cause i frankly just never get anything worthwhile.

My storage layout:
-Backpack = salvage/ID kits and drops
-Belt Pouch = keys/rare drops I'm holding until I can get to a storage
-Bag 1 = crafting materials
-Bag 2 = other
-One mule character (he wasn't meant to be a mule, but I lost interest in him in the late game so he has access to most towns)
-I store items I plan to sell to players/auction in my storage account, along with some holiday items and random doodads like Tapestry Shreds

man am I scrounding for space........
now, for my heroes that use 2 handed weapons or staves, I stick a focus on them too
edit: one way I could save about 8 slots is if I could convert my reward tokens to one type. For example, instead of having 100 battle commendations, 100 inscribed secrets, 100 kournan coins, 100 luxon totems, 100 equipment requisitions, 100 monastery credits, etc etc etc, I'd have a few stacks of just one of them.
they are redundant.........

Mesmer in Need
MY war gas the most stuff of all my characters, and heres how i keep my stuff organised:
Backpack: random loot, id/salvage kit.
Belt: keys, overflow
Bag1: Full of greens. top weapons, bottom shields. Yes, i farm alot.
Bag2: 5 different hems, 1 for each weapon, strenght, and tactics. the rest it my stonefists, and my non- green weapons (which i dont have much of lol )
I try to salavage as much stuff as i can while farming and doing thinkd like fow or uw. during a mission, i tend to not pick up much. if i get something like a good weapon mod, i transfer it to another emptier char.
My other characters are less full, and on my monk i usually have a full bag of weapon mods and stuff from 55ing. I have about one of each dye in my storage, followed by random holiday crap, an occasioal salvage kit, overflow for my mats storage, and candy canes. i agree, the complete storage overall is small. I remember making a mule, then starting to have fun with him. now hes lvl 20 :P. but all my characters carry their fare share.
