Not sure if this has been brought up but I will give it a shot.

I think that grinding in the game is the best part of it. I know when I first bought GW doing the PvE quests with skill rewards was a sort of an accomplishment. How come in later chapters this was not the case? Players coming from prophecies could of had their level reset and once again in factions grind it out and go for the skill rewards. Could of had it when you achieve a certain level your armor is increased just like the heroes. The future chapters have no incentive and PvP players can just go buy the skills instantly with each release (skill points and cash) if they run out of faction trying to unlock. Curious as to why this was abandoned.

The problem with prophecies skill rewards is that it is too limiting in terms of builds. Skill rewards, as they are in prophecies, inevitably "steer" players to a limited set of builds which hinders build innovations.

Therefore, they tried giving out skill points and huge XP in Factions as a form of quest reward, so you can pick the skills that you want from the trainers. However players complain that is too expensive, so in Nightfall they give out hero skill points so players can choose the skills that they want to acquire and unlock for their heroes and for the acquiring char.

I want skill rewards back. That way I could pick and choose which quests to do to most quickly unlock skills. The hero skills thing is pretty pathetic.

Hero skills have absolutely nothing to do with your own skills. It only "unlocks" the skill.

Actually, Trucker, if a PvE toon buys a Hero skill that is of his proffession, then he unlocks it for his own use too, essentially the same as buying it from a skill trainer.

That's a little harsh maybe.
My fiancée who plays very little GW and therefore doesn't have many skills unlocked for the heroes finds this useful. With a little research you can unlock only the skills you need to give your heroes a reasonably good build.

As Stormlord Alex said, the pve toon also learns the skill. BUT, there is nothing ingame explaining that, not even a "you've learned mending" in the log, so you have to open your skill panel to realize you just learned a skill for free.

This is a game design flaw to me, Hero skill trainers have nothing to do with Heroes actually.

If you are looking for a "grind" play WoW or maple story. GW isnt a grinding game, but since many PvE players enjoy grinding in GW; Anet released lots of new titles.

Haha, yeah, resetting everyone to lvl1 every time a chapter comes out, people will love that I'm sure.

That is NOT the case. Next time you pick a hero skill, pick one that YOUR current character does not have, but is for his/her PRMIARY class.

You will find that the skill appears on that character's skill list too. I double checked this the other night, so i know for sure that it happens.

I think the next chapter should bring back skill quests, but rather than a set skill, let oyu choose a skill from a list upon completion.

Hero skill trainer won't show any skill your current character already has. You can pick a skill from any profession, you will learn it anyway.

But beware if you only want to unlock something, check if you didn't unlock it yet, as the Hero Skill trainer will show you skills already unlocked if your character doesn't have them.

I don't really follow your train of thought here. The term 'Grinding' connotes something repetitive, and the original skill quests were hardly that. You got a different task to accomplish in different areas for each skill. The current system of farming for cash for skills, to me, would much more easily be defined as grinding.

As for which I prefer, I do miss the old skill rewards. I have always wondered why they stopped doing that.

Or...............if you really want to grind in Guildwars then make 12 characters and take them thru all 3 chapters. I get shivers just thinking about it.

Regarding hero skills: There are actually a few "Core" skills that are available in Nightfall ONLY by hero skill trainers, and cannot be bought with skill points. Dismember is one of these.

I actually brought 14 characters through NF. 10 of which did Chapters 1 and 2 also. I am now bringing the other 4 through Chapters 1 and 2.

I am doing that because I enjoy the game and storyline so much. I am taking my time to go through them and enjoying myself at the same time. I also have all the elite skills acquired through PvE for both accounts.
