Icy dragon sword farming questions
SylvesterFox
Hello, I"m a noob so please, don't judge me. I've been trying to get the IDS for several days now, with no success. I have been doing it on my own, with just henches. I heard that if you go farming the IDS's with just henches they won't drop. Is this true? What is the best way to farm them, with other people? Also is it true that you can only get the sword if you solo run or go with just 1 player in your party and no henches? I'm a noob as I said so running isn't an option. I'd like to know a way to farm the sword with as much people (real or NPC) in my party as possible, preferably full party. Thanks

IDSs should drop with henchies in the party, but they will do so at 1/8th the rate they do normally as henchies get item drops of their own. Doing the solo run just increases the odds of you getting one.
Tyrian Runner
if you cant make the run, take a build specifically to kill the ice imps. let the henchies fight there, then flag them away so their names are greyed out. then you get all drops ^.^
Xiaxhou of Trinity
also henching for an IDS basically kills your chances of getting one. 1/8th of an already very low chance=no chance lol. course if you're a lucky bastard you'll get one with henchies without flagging

So.... should I just try getting real people instead of henches?

If you go with a party of real people the odds of an IDS dropping for you will be exactly the same as it would with a party of hench/heros, the only difference being you would actually see what dropped for the other human players.

the thing about icy dragon swords is that its a damn hard run to make and they almost never drop. back before nightfall, i used to be able to solo run to the imp cave and clear all of it with a w/me build. i would do that for about 20or 30 runs and only get 1 or 2 swords...and at that point i stopped doing it because it just wasnt paying off, considering the run would take at least 10 minutes to get there each time...and not exactly a "fun" run either. also, you cant always make the run if the avicara are right outside the cave.
since nightfall came out though, the AI has changed and ts near immpossible to get there now alone. the avicara would follow me for a VERY long time...sometimes from the section with the giants all the way to the cave. im guessing this is why the price of an IDS went up to 30-35k from 20k.
if you still want to try, do it 2 or three man....but expect to do many runs with nothing dropping.

Best way still seems a Fire Mage build. Run there with henchmen, then flag them away. Or clear the surrounding area first, THEN flag them away and destroy the imps. If you die, unflag the henchmen so they come and get killed. After res, repeat. When all are dead, hopefully you'll have a sword.
Note: I haven't done this run, but I go solo from Thunderhead Keep to Marhans, down the right side, through lots of imps.

Chris The only imps that drop the IDS are the ones in the cave in Mineral Springs.

I didn't mean getting the IDS. I meant general strat for taking out the imps and getting their drops.

I'm resurrecting this thread just to give a bit of hope to any folks who have been trying to get an IDS with henchies.
I've been to the Ice Imp Cave just once. I only went there (with my ranger) for mapping purposes. Me, 3 heroes, 4 henchies. We eventually got to the cave and the first imp we killed dropped an IDS. How lucky is that?

It took me Two Weeks solo running the wiki W/Mo build to get mine.
Although I farmed IDS up until I got my 15k, I'd have to say it was a huge waste of time. I'd much reccomend farming the Crystal Desert, or even Totem Axe's for a noob in Prophecies.

I was having an extremely lucky week, and all during my mapping expeditions. I went out to map The Falls, which was the first time I'd ever explored it beyond the 'Blood & Smoke' quest. I took 3 heroes. I picked up a Totem Axe and a Forgotten Fan. It seemed so easy I went back with a guildie and we got a Totem Axe each. Then I went to map Majesty's Rest with heroes and henchies. After wall scraping the whole area I decided to finish off with an attempt at killing Rotscale, something I'd never managed before. Not only did we kill him (her?) but I got a Rotwing Bow! Probably never get a streak like that again.
puppykiller
talking of streaks, i'm probably on one of the worst ive ever had, 3 full oro runs killing a total of about 20+ boses and no green drops for anybody in the party
Painbringer
Went with my monk to cap elite went to cave for the fun of it. The 1st imp outside of cave dropped one for me (heros and hench full party) ::
Infinite Legend
lol whenever i solo this run with my ranger they always drop 4/5 times and sometimes even 2 of them drop. The whole run takes around 30 minutes.

Well, we're getting way off topic here but I find it interesting to hear of other peoples experiences at 'farming' greens.
When my monk first made it to Augury Rock I really really wanted a Kepkhet's Refuge for her and for ages I joined groups that were 'Queen farming' (I was determined to NOT buy one). Again and again we killed the Queen but I never got the green staff though other group members often were lucky. After many many attempts with no success I switched to my ele and joined a group that was needing a nuker for Queen farming and of course got a Kepkhet's Refuge first go!
