Buying gold - All scams?

I just wandered if there is a legit, popular website that sells guild wars gold. Do people actually do this? Have any of you ever bought off one?

I know it sounds n00bish, lol, but this is my first online RPG and just had to ask the question.

I'd like to make clear that I AM NOT asking for a site at all. I do not want to buy gold at all. I was wandering if plaync could shut some of these sites down, because surely its not legal. So many people advertise doing this, can they just not get banned or something?

That brings me on to another question, how would i actually report somebody if I saw them advertising these kind of sites. Is there an in game report form or something?

Well first off buying Guild Wars gold is against the rules and not allowed.

Furthermore, asking where you can buy Guild Wars gold on this site is against the rules i believe.

There are no ligit gold selling site for GW. Yes people do buy them, they choose the easy part or they're just fat & lazy. If anet catch you doing it, they can ban you from GW forever.

Yes, some people are lazy enough to do this.

Lets start with your title , No , most of them are not scams, they are just people that will sell you in game gold for real world cash.

In Guildwars its not legit no,there are other games that do sell in game gold of some kind but not GW , its against the rules.Yes some people do actually buy in game gold from these sites.No and do you really think anyone will say they have bought it here?Common think about it.

I believe they can not shut down the sites, they can ask google to remove them, ebay to remove them, etc etc, but the site them selfs they cant do anything against i think.
So many people advertise doing this, can they just not get banned or something?

There are so many people ( most of the time its just the same person with multiple accounts) because it is profitable, lets say you sell 1000K gold for 70$ ( i think that the price i saw advertised in Temple of Balthazar last night)
And lets say 20 people buy from you then you get reported and banned.
You would have made 70X20=1400$ ( Holy Cow O_o are my numbers correct?)
So what do you do?You buy a new account ~35$ and you continue, not really a loss.

About reporting, someone above me posted where you should go and what you should do.

Not 100% on this but I think Anet can do something about these sites. As far as I know, they (anet) own everything to do with, and inside of Guild Wars. This would include the gold. So people making money on something that is not theirs would be deemed illigal by law. Like I said, not 100% but I think that's right. When you buy a game, you actually only buy the license to play it, you don't technically own it.

Except that it's an international business (selling the gold) and not much Anet can do about it (or if they could, it'd be rather expensive to file a suit in multiple countries against multiple sites).

They don't have to sue them, they can apply to have them shut down by their hosts. Most will comply if pressured by large companies. Not saying they will do this but Anet has the option and do look down on all this. Still don't understand why you'd want to do it. Farming, buying and selling is all part of the game. Watching your money creep up thanks to the work you've done can be rewarding.

Gold selling companies never signed the EULA, only individuals involved did.

So they can suspend all of the accounts that company uses, but they can't do anything against the company itself, not even prevent it from buying more copies.

EULA is not law, and there is currently no legislation that would allow any legal action against virtual item traders.

Once such legislation does apear, then it's quite likely that all virtual assets will become taxable assets - not a pretty picture. It's part of the reason why nothing as such has been passed yet, despite IRS wanting it for quite some time.

They have no legal recourse regardless of any EULA or "pressure" by companies towards the site's provider, because there is nothing illegal being done. No propriety information is being traded.

(On an aside: Any and all players are not bound by the EULA, as it is not considered a legal contract, since the only thing (currently) in law creating a contract is your physical signature, not a "I agree" box or a check mark.)

Look at the websites, you are buying their time and effort for playing Guild Wars. The Gold they give you is, at best, a donation (related, or unrelated) for your generosity.

And just so everyone knows... like I say every time this crops up... I am not endorsing such actions. Play the damn game, stop taking the easy road and avoid the "gimme now!" generation.

The best way to stop Guild wars "Gold sellers" and this kind of site is for ppl NOT buying anything from them, as long as "some ppl" buy gold online this kind of stuff will be there forever.
And no worry's that kind of ppl stop as fast as they get to a uber elite mission like Thunderhead keep or have no more cash to buy that uber cool looking skin of whatever for there characters that has no better use then any other skin .

I disagree. The best way to stop 'em is to report 'em every time you see 'em.

gold selling sites are not illegal. they cannot be shut down. if they did become illegal i am sure they could base their operations in a country which it is not illegal. anet can ban people who buy or sell gold but do not have any power to shut the sites down. the sites could pay for very very good lawyers just like anet can as some sites make tens of millions of gold from selling gold. there is one site which has aquired a number of very big and well known wow forums and resource sites O_o i am sure with the amount of money to be made they would not stop even if it became illegal.
