do i heal too much?
s7j3
well during some missions that were very intense for a heal/prot monk i noticed that i was running low on energy mid battle. i also noticed that i started healing minor damage in the start. this ended up as me spamming OoH, DK, and WoH almost constantly. My build doesnt have e management, so using Heal Party is a killer. Should i just stop healing minor damage and heal when their health bars get down to 3/4 full or should i add e management.
Right now my general build is..
Heal 16 Prot 11 Favor 11
Orison of Healing
Dwanya's Kiss
Word of Healing
Heal Party
Protective Spirit
Spirit Bond
Dismiss Condition
Rebirth
if you think that i should add e management what should i swap out for it, and what skill. im thinking GoLE.

you have no energy management, a suboptimized bar, and heal party, prot spirit, and spirit bond.
if you're going to run heal party you need glyph. There's no reason you need both prot spirit AND spirit bond. Slap one on the other monk. I'd just drop both for lod though, woh is pretty overrated.

Yeah... your bar is far too energy intensive, with absolutely no e-management whatsoever. Spirit Bond and Prot Spirit on the same bar is near enough redundant, you could drop one of them for GoLE then see how you go from there. Also, as you have Nightfall campaign, why not drop WoH for LoD? Then you could lose HP, saving more energy.
Also, there's really no need to start healing as soon as the battle starts - spread a few prot spirits around on key party members, and I usually wait untill people are at ~50-60% health before I heal (unless I'm using Signet of Devotion which can be used as a bar topper). Especially later on, in places like THK or what have you, the enemies often carry a lot of hexes and you can get a lot of mileage out of DK (it's common to see it heal for 200+ in FoW).
And... more persykolojikal this... If people notice they're taking damage but are *not* at full health (you know, used to crappy monks/AI who likes to keep bars at 100%) then maybe, just maybe, they will start to kite.
Well... a monk can dream.

so i swapped woh to lod and spirit bond to SoA and i have one slot left, should i add a e management? im feeling like im lacking the healing power i had before with WoH, what skills can replace that?
Stormlord Alex
I guess you could always take one of the stronger healing spells to use in emergency situations, Heal Other (while being grossly inefficient) is the one immediate choice... It shouldn't really be much of a problem though, it's very rare in PvE that enemies will focus enough on a single target that the protection from PS/SoA wouldn't be enough to give you time to heal adequately.
Hmm... Humdehum...
...
[skill]Protective Spirit[/skill][skill]Shield of Absorption[/skill][skill]Infuse Health[/skill][skill]Healing Touch[/skill][skill]Light of Deliverance[/skill][skill]Dwayna's Kiss[/skill][skill]Glyph of Lesser Energy[/skill][skill]Rebirth[/skill]
Maybe?
Probably not on second thoughts... Infuse isn't needed in PvE... It'd fun to find a use for it though (PvE-wise)...

hmm i didnt choose any of those skills since i would rather a build with cheap spells so wouldnt need e management
heres my build
OoH
DK
Ethereal Light
LoD
PS
SoA
Dismiss Conditons
Rebirth
i chose ethereal light b/c its a cheap but effective heal, pluse if im being interrupted i can rely on the other heals to pull me out of the situation
any comments?

That's more like it, with mostly 5e spells you won't run into energy issues (so long as you learn not to spam ). I've never found Ethereal Light's drawback to be an issue, it's a retarded self-heal (obviously) but it has the power to compliment LoD and keep everyone hale & hearty.
Just one little thing... with a decent spec into Prot (11's just fine), you might want to consider using [skill]Reversal of Fortune[/skill] <-- Easily one of the best monk skills, in high-end PvE with all them buffed monsters, it's easy to get most of it's power.

well heres what i run in pve..... though i'm a pvper lol :P
ZB
rof
Shield of Absorption
Gift of Health
Prot Spirit
Dismiss condition
Aegis/holy veil
Glyph
13 prot
12 divine
9 healing
Can drop down prot if u want and add a lil in divine
no sup runes ever... just used to pvp so yah...
also working or survivor 3
to help with e-mangement try to get used to focus swapping.
-5e weapon +30/-5(20%) shield
then u can switch to +5e 20%enchant or +30 health and a shield
then keep going up.
with glyph its very easy to almost always monk in pve with 25 energy
try not to over heal... like using Gift on a target that only lost about 90% of their health, use rof or sig of devotion is you really want to top of people. Though i hate sig of devotion lol

By the way, most Healing spells are crap. Protection + Gift gogo.
Or you could go LoD.

thanks for all your help on my build, now that its ready for pve i can start going into high end areas =D
and lightning, healing spells are pretty good but i'd prefer not to go full prot since i think that heal/prot hybrids are better cause they take the best from the healing and the best from protection, and combines them with divine favor

Heal/prot hybrid generally just implies prot+GoH because...

RoF, GoH, Dismiss, Holy Veil. Usually PS and/or SoA. +Elite. +GoLE.
Though I haven't monked in PvE in awhile, nor am I the greatest monk in any situation. I'll leave it up to you wether you should listen to me.

i run mainly heals and just use Aegis as my only protect and Vigorous Spirit on Melees as a buffer. Then I spam WoH, Dwayna's Kiss, Words of Comfort, and Orison (or some other heal, either devotion or rejuvenation). Or I drop that last heal and put in hex removal, but usually I just bring Dismiss Condition and a Res as my last two. Works well enough for me, haven't had any issues or complaints from anyone, and my energy will last enough before me (and other casters) have to take a break to get regen. I have 50 energy and i can't remember my attributes lol

You should do both.
As has been said before, Mo/E for Glyph of Lesser Energy works like a charm on the more expensive monk skills.
But the best piece of advice I was given when it came to monking a long time ago is, if they're not at about 80% health, they don't need healing. It isn't worth 5 energy to heal 10 health. This should help you prioritise who needs healing better.
Good Luck.

Woh/Infuse is all the spells I need to solo-heal FoW. Off-course healing touch+ other big self heals to keep'm up.

i top up alot, and spam spells, but i use the 2 signets, and have a optional E management slot.
healing spells are fine imo, i actully prefer them over prot for most pve. in the high end nightfall, protective spirit is pretty much manditory.
the trick with a top up style of monking, is to moniter your energy, if youve got above 35-40 or so u can heal as much as you like, drop below that, and switch to non spamming mod.
everyone has there own style of monking, two rather different types ive come across..
one who insisited the team had over extended, and refused to heal/prot or whatever. the team had advanced 5-10 metres, to fight 2-3 bad guys, no other mobs or even solo bad guys about... that was on the ruins or morah or whatever mission. the other was a monk who had a shield and axe (rather fancy ones too), at first i thought it was a pvp peep, and would swap weapon sets... it turned out he never did, and did amazingly well with his 36 energy, did a fair bit on realm of torment with him

If you are going to use those skills I would take out PoS and change it to RoF as it is 5 nrg and can heal as well.I wouldn't use heal party so much depending on the situation and for the most part I only really need 3 to 4 skills to heal good. What do henchie Monk skill bars consist of 3 to 4 skills or 5.
