PVE in Guild Wars - A Few Basic Questions

Hello there -

I am brand new to guild wars, having quit WoW a few months ago. I started GW about 2 days ago, and currently have a level 6 R/W. I was wondering if someone could maybe explain the PVE in GW beyond the normal quests. Are there any more specific instances like in WoW? As in like dungeons? If so, are they only at level 20 or are there some while leveling to? Also, is there a norm for a rangers second profession or is my choice of warrior going to be ok (for this character at least)?

Basically, i'm trying to understand the PVE aspects of the game beyond basic question.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Regards,

Steven

Thanks alot for the quick response and linkage . It actually explained alot more about other questions I was having too. So far my experience with the guild wars community has been, in a word, awesome. Hands down the best MMO community I've been a part of.

Thanks again for the help!

Also, there are some areas of Guild Wars that are for High levels only. Like Sorrows Furnace.

There are high-end (or 'Elite') areas which are set piece encounters which you can play over and over again for experience and loot. Sorrow's Furnace, The Fissure of Woe, The Underworld and others which the wiki will tell you all about :-)

Essentially, you will need to be Lv20 to play these areas, but more because they are difficult than because you need to be Lv20 to enter them. The reward for these areas is generally considered to be the good drops and rare items and materials that are found there, although the areas are very challenging and beating them can be a reward in and of itself!

I guess that is a bit of a difference between GW and other games - you level out quite quickly so the long-term entertainment comes from challenging gameplay, collecting rare items and shooting for titles. More than enough to keep you going though, I can assure you!

I'll also add that in PvE the need to grind is practically inexistent compared to WoW which make the game much more enjoyable imo. The high-end areas are there for the fun of it more than anything else.

hey lexan and welcome to GW!!!!!!! the PVE aspect of GW is essentially this. Explore your surrounding area either by yourself, or with a party, or with heroes and henchmen! You can take on different quests from people and then either complete them all at once, or complete one at a time! But this game is really about trying to explore as much as you can, and then help other people as well as complete quests to get new items and weapons! And also, you can do PVP with your PVE character! The first arena is sometimes in pre searing, when you are about to depart with tydus, sometimes, depending on Level. But the first real arena you incounter is the shiverpeak arena, in Yaks, in the shiverpeak mountians!!!
