Hey all, I am kinda disappointed.. I logged into my warrior today to see that everything that was in my bag( Not belt or backpack) was gone . My armor, and my weapons that were in other bags, belts, backpack, and on me, are still there, but my req 9 15^50 +30 20/20 Igneous Blade is gone, green candy cane shield, collectors while enchanted shield(ettin farming..), axe helm, and 43 candy canes are also gone... I really don't know why it happened, I got an err 7 the night before, and decided to not log back for the night..

I know complaining to Anet won't help, was just gonna ask if someone else had this problem?

The reason is simple. You got hacked.

Check the bag for holes.

After you do that, scan your system for any keyloggers. If it's clean, change your password.

When you're done with that... remember where you actually put that stuff.

Sounds like a hack which was already stated or something else went wrong when you got the error message only thing you can do is contact tech support or the knowledge base for answers. If not you may want to uninstall and reinstall the game who knows.

I know I wouldn't re-install, that wouldn't do anything.. I guess I'll just cut my losses, and use my Fell Blade..

I don't use and hacks, or key loggers.. anyways, admin, you can close..

Did you download any GW related software whatsoever? Something that seems innocent can hide a darker secret.

you dont use a key logger, rather it uses you. but id doubt a hacker, they would have cleaned you out.

threads like this pop up every couple of weeks. 60% of the time, someone put their items in storage/another char/a different bag and dont remember. the other 40% of the time, their items just ended up being merched. check every single possible slot on your account, and try and remember if you've hit the merchant recently. we've all merched stuff we shouldnt have; it happens all the time.

Can full bags accidentally be "trashed" by the player? I haven't tried it myself, but other lag related goofs are possible when dragging and dropping items.

Have you ever played GW after "a few too many"? I know it sounds silly, but a couple of times I've done trading after a "few" I've checked the next day and gone "Where did that go?"

Sometimes, one can merch a bit fast and not realize you've sold something to the merchant too late.

Also, does a friend/sibling have access to your account? You might THINK you know them but... *shrug*

A couple of suggestions.

i was thinking the same,.......sometimes you can accidentally uncheck a bag so that it winds up showing the vendor sell screen, then if you are emptying your inventory of junk and hitting sell sell sell, if you accidentally unchecked it, it may have burned through them.........which is why it's always smart to put an item that can't be sold just before all your keeper items, even if they are in a bag that should be hidden from the vendor

I got drunk for a month one night and sold my Shak-Jarin's Sword to the merchant for 35 bucks.

And yeah, there've been worse things that I won't speak of. Anyway, hope you find your stuff man!

BTW: Selling candy canes 1k each!

If your items were customized (as they should be) the game would've warned you prior to selling them. :x

If [s]he got hacked, wouldn't it make more sence that they took everything from every character? I mean like if I hacked someone, I wouldn't take stuff from one character.

Exactly. Funny how that's the first thing out of most people's mouths, but they overlook that one small detail.

It might be a hack. GW, like most MMORPGs, saves your progress on their servers rather frequently, like once I crashed during the Fort Ranik ending cutscene (before the shield confirming mission completion appeared), but got back on to find myself at the Frontier Gate.

Of course, there's a chance of it being a freak accident. I agree with Arkantos it'd seem unlikely for somebody to just hack one bag, unless you logged on while they were hacking it? If you log onto your account when it's already logged onto, the first person on is kicked and the new person logs on. I discovered this from some odd internet phenomena resulting in me logging in, with the client thinking I was already on.

But then again if it wasn't a hack, you can't sell Candycane's, Event items, to the trader. But then again why would he take just stuff out of one bag.

Is it possible to put your bag with items in it in your inventory and then sell it by accidently?

Can'd do it. After seeing this thread, I tried out a few experiments. I emptied a bag on one of my characters and put a solitary Kournan Pendant in it (something I have WAYY too much of), then proceeded to drop the bag into the trash bin - no can do. It gives a "/" (no) sign and doesn't allow you to do it. It also will not let you un-equip the bag if there is anything in it.

Not sure how something like this could happen, unless maybe you were selling at the trader, and hadn't noticed maybe your bag was checked - thus allowing you to sell everything in that bag as well. Only thing I could think of. If you didn't have anything in there that was customized (like you said your armor was in a different bag), it wouldn't warn you while you were selling. An err 7 while selling might cause you to accidentally sell lots of stuff, too.

It couldn't have been a "Accidental Merchent" because the whole entire bag, was gone(Yes, even the bag itself). I checked all characters + every hero on all characters.. I was not on drugs(I don't do drugs, Nor was I intoxicated...

After reviewing this with Guildies, one of them said that he got a err 7 during a load from lvl 2 -3 in Tombs and hes Dragos was GONE.

Strange things...

If he was hacked, maybe the hacker just threw away some of the stuff but not all of it to mess with his mind.

most likely a freind or guildmate messing with you, I have a bunch of real life buddys who play guildwars. One day after some beer they took half of there brothers armor(the 2 parts with 90k absurb and 45k vigor) and a chaos axe. and put it on there account, then just waited for him to log in....

You said you got an error message, and that could have caused it. My hubby got a "repairing data archive" message (20 minutes long!!) When it ended, his level 20 assasin disappeared. Yes, the assasin and everything on him was gone. (I've heard of other ppl getting the "repairing data archive" who haven't lost their characters.) IMO I think your loss could have been a result of an game error, however I don't know what the stated error means. I'm just saying strange things have happened, things that have nothing to do with hackers.

Anyhow, sorry to hear about what happened. That really stinks.

you cant trash a bag unless its empty. you cant move a bag into inventory unless its empty. and yes shit disapears every so often. one of my storage chars lost 2 bags. had a ton of items in it, and poof it was gone. you dont have to be hacked or keylogged the game just forgot you had it. oh and support wont do a damn thing. you can tell em but you wont get your stuff back.

Mystery solved:
Quote:
It is found that the neutrino loss reduces the lifetime of the carbon-burning phase at least by a factor of 30. By reference to the preceding study of the gravitational contraction phase, the lifetime of an ordinary star of 15.6M\odot as a red supergiant is obtained. The time of evolution without neutrino loss is consistent with the observed numbers of red supergiants in the star clusters, h+χ Persei and NGC 330, but the evolution with neutrinos is faster by a factor of 20. Finally, discussions are made of the effects of rotation, helium flicker and mass loss on the lifetime. It seems unlikely that these effects are large enough to increase the lifetime by a factor as large as 20.
To paraphrase:

Over time things disappear into nothingness due to neutrino loss. If it can happen to a star, it certainly can happen to a bag, eh?

Sorry to hear but this is weird. Maybe it was a hacker but you logged on before he could do too much damage. Ive also lost a rare weapon only to find it on a hero. Do you have a 2nd acount you could have transferred it too? My guess, t was deleted by the error.

From Wikipedia:

"Keystroke logging (often called keylogging) is a diagnostic used in software development that captures the user's keystrokes. It can be useful to determine sources of error in computer systems and is sometimes used to measure employee productivity on certain clerical tasks. Such systems are also highly useful for law enforcement and espionage—for instance, providing a means to obtain passwords or encryption keys and thus bypassing other security measures. However, keyloggers are widely available on the internet and can be used by anyone for the same purposes."

You can read more about it here.

1) drunken trading / selling

or

2) lag causing you to sell the items in your bag...
