Why those 'unexplorable explorable' areas
Duncan Idaho
I suppose all of the GMCs, specially those of Tyria and maybe of Elona, have already been blocked by a gate, door, or even Forgotten Guards (Throne of Secrets), while there was clearly a path behind.
I mean, for example, there is clearly a path behind the closed gate in Tasca's Desmise, or behind the one in the Barbarous Shore. Worst, in Surmia cooperative mission, there is a boss behind a gate that you cannot reach !
Last, but not least, the thing that made me mad : in the Crystal Desert, there is a place surronded by rocks with a teleport pad inside. It clearly appears that you can only enter that place by using that pad. The problem is, its 'twin' is not functionnal, that is to say there are no commuters to switch ...
Why on earth do they created these places ?

Just to piss you off. =)
Really though, who knows? To create an air of mystery that no player can breach? Bad code required some quick fixes? Time constraints that stopped an area from being 100% complete? Your guess is as good as mine.

What bugs me more is how 1/3 of the Tyrian map is completely inaccessable...like, you can't even see a door way leading in or anything. The entire Tarnished Coast (souther Kryta), for example, or the Giant's Basin lakes (northern Maguuma). Also, the area of south AScalon/North desert where the remnants of a bridge leding form Ascalon to the desert cna be seen but not crossed.

some of these things were probably left to either leave room for future expansions or to elimate that closed in feeling you might get if there were just walls of rock and trees encasing the explorabe areas. By leaving some areas open for expansion they are covering themselves for the future. That way if late on in some expansion sized update they add a few new areas they would not have to create any new landmass or adjust the actual tyrian elonian or canthan maps.

Areas that had something originally planned for them but it was cancelled, there are some items and npcs like this, they stand out and are obviously for something but that has not yet been implemented or has been taken out after or before a beta. Possibly

Some of it is probably to give a feeling that the world is larger than what you see.

Either:
1) You were once able to enter (example: arena gate in Amnoon Oasis for 6v6).
2) Prophecies had many of those to leave open passageways for future expansions before they realized the full campaign business model.
3) What the post above said.

This may be some of our "underground tunnel complex" that ties in GW:EN

i expect that some of these areas will be opened in the future for major updates, like Deldrimor War camp. that whole area was nothing but blurred map until they opened up passage there. so in the same way, SOME of these other areas may be waiting for game updates. going a long with Zegorzalek, some of these updates may not be until 6 months after GW:EN

Ok I guess they can add some things.
Maybe it was just for aesthetic reasons. To give the impression that the world you(re walking around in, IS connected to the rest of the world. Rather than having a huge asz wall blocking in the gameworld.

where abouts is this teleporter can you take a screen shot. i was walking aroudn the desert and i found a teleporter that takes you to elona, is that it?

Random Arenas used to have about 5 outposts, one for each map, before they made it random map as well as random team. Some of those probably lead to old RA outposts.
