Extended Level Cap: The Truth.
Master Sword Keeper
Hi people. Just updating the question on everyone's lips.
"Why can't we increase the level cap?"
OKAY! Lets see. Reverting back to prophecies and factions...Now if you were lets say LvL 30 and recieved attr,HP and skill point bonus's for each lvl attained. You could super solo any area, any mission, any one monster at any given time.
Points of interest
1. Increasing the level cap is a strenuous task. First it takes months and months of rebuilding and coding. Causing several bugs and severe or even fatal server crashes just updating the Player/Monster AI system.
2. For each LvL attained you gain 15 or 25hp everytime your character levels up correct? okay well lets see.. Monks and necromancers in general you would be looking at 100% blackout and non-existant use of 55hp characters.
Yes non-existant. I don't use 55hp professions. I'm a warrior/ranger person myself.
3. IN missions like Minister Cho's estate (factions) or Ruins of Surmia (prophecies) or even some of the earlier missions in Nightfall Blacktide and joknur. You are facing one character either running or literally blazing an entire area single handidly.
4. This is most concerning. For every 5 lvl's you reach you get 10 attr points. Now think about it you would at least have 500 or 400 attr points. by the time you were lvl 30. Enabling EXTENSIVE reconstruction of skill tree's.
I think the only good reason to make yourself lvl 30 is to give extra skill points and thats it. No additional attr's or HP just bragging rights and skill points for each lvl attained.
In long-term, Should the ANET team go ahead with Level reconstruction we could be seeing a game full of super soldiers, Fatal server crashes and unbalanced alchemies...
You may think... "yea level cap increase is great!" but think of all the paper-work and coding problems that A-net would have to do... Players could be Guild Wars'less for months at a time not to mention, Online updating could lag servers extensively.
Now you know why this will never be taken into effect
ANET should of made this change the day the game was even drawn up. Level 20 is a permanent fixture and will never be changed.
So that's my truth about the level cap.
(trust me i wanted 10 more levels too then i thought about all the points mentioned earlier) *good feeling to know you could walk up to a lvl 20 and bash em...XD
Anyway. Consider it.
Cheers

3 isnt true, I still do that on a blue moon.
Master Sword Keeper
yea but think about certain players that are able to Tank and run and do the whole mission for 3 ppl just standing around..
Ascalon Chariot
Personally, I think raising the level cap is a horrible idea...I have about 8 lvl 20's across 2 accounts and I think the level cap is fine. Even if they do raise the level cap, and raise att points, hp, etc. they will probally end up taking it off because we will abuse the power...
Anyways...who wants the poor defenseless 2 man UW to go bye bye? =(

good post in explaing to the "greens" about the reason and issue for balance for the level cap.
Here is something I wrote, which is funny, because it was for orginally for another thing, but could also use it here...
------------------------------
For those that are observant, you probably have figure out by now that the Lightbringer and Sunspear ranks are one of the way to satisfy the level-grinding-happy player out there. It’s a good way to go around the level-cap, to still give those who like to level something to grind about.

yea thats what i was thinking...Imagine the builds that'd get nerfed and 55's and AV/Sv's and stuff like that...toasted.
There's just too much work in a lvl cap raise.

personally i think that raising the level cap is a great idea, but i think the only way it would ever work is to have a specific area of the game in which players are enabled to increase their maximum level. then, once the players leave that area, that level would once again decrease to level 20, therefore stopping all the problems with people solo-ing earlier areas on games, and not messing up curent pvp stuff. also, from lvl 20 + the amount of HP that increases should alter, as well as the amount of attribute points. - if from level 20+ a player was awarded 2 attribute points each level, and the cap was level 30 - that would be 20 more points, therefore meaning skills would not be greatley effected.

level caps are not needed. if it was, say, 30, it would take a long-ass time to get there. the whole point of Guild Wars is to reduce grind to as minimal as possible.
That is why if you go through the whole storyline, you end up around 20. It may now seem that guild wars is a game for noobs. not true. the only reason it is easy in the beginning is so new ppl who just got the game would understand the mechanics. if I started Guild Wars in Gloom of DoA, i would quit in a blink becuz of the difficulty.
as someone said before, if u like to grind, get lightbringer/sunspear rank 1000000 for all i care. or, better yet, go to WoW and grind ur ass off til lvl70.
i dont want to play a game that would suck the life out of you becuz ur trying to "gain bars," as said in WoW.

Orphan Anthem
Personally i think raising the level cap for only ascetic ability's would be a good idea.
Specially level XX armor and wepon skinns no added points

Lexar
How about: every time you earn a new skill point after lvl 20 it says lvl 21, 22 etc, without actually growing the stats like you did before lvl 20. That would not unbalance the game in any way, and would give people something to grind for.

i'm not sure about the whole increase per skill point idea, because in a way it kinda defeats itself, you need something to be affected by it, and not something minor like with lightbringer ranks, but something bigger that makes people want to do it. As for reaching lvl 30, i dont think there would be much grind in that - an average player going through nightfall or factions would easily gain the equavilent experiance nesacery for lvl 30 - even if the amount of exp required each level increased.

Definetly Definetly against this.

Im not in favour of raising the cap at all. its stupid becuase people will over powered for no reason and there will no point in builds because people can just change lvl up and max out their attributes
i like lexars idea but i think some missions and quests are baesd upon the lvl of your character and i think bosses on some quests are dependant on your lvl. So if you were on say lvl 30, the enemie may be like 38 which would be bloody hard to kill considering your technically lvl 20.

This is not a suggestion, and if it is, we don't need yet another one about the level cap.
