Me and a friend did the same thing, got a few of the randoms in the district, and we had drunken races for gold. We had a spectator of course to make sure someone was actually drunk, since none of us could tell

started with: 5 absinthes, 5 dwarven ales, 5 hunter's ales, 5 witche's brews, 5 spiked eggnogs, 5 normal eggnogs
that lasted for about 15 min and added in about: 15 abinsthes, 10 spiked eggnogs, 10 normal eggnogs, 10 witche's brews.
the effect wasn't crazy in terms of wavyness [although I was seeing 3-4 of anything that moved] but rather the rapid color change. It was changing almost every second to a different color [mainly red and yellow] and no, the rapid color change was not happening because of the fireworks @_@
