Lower Prices for Weapon Smiths
RSGashapon
First off, I'm not saying the costs should be dropped to rock bottom prices, but 5k for items is just too much. Why does it cost so much in the first place? Oh I know that one, "gold sink" right? Fine. Gold sinks are a necessary evil in GW's economy, I accept that now.
But how about a compromise instead? Lower the cost of max dmg/AL items to 2.5k instead, and the high end ones from 10k to 5k. People might actually use weapon smiths again, if the prices were more reasonable. Even standard armor pieces don't cost that much! I see no reason to pay 5k for a sword, shield or bow that only have a common skin. Sure it has max stats, which is what I want (in my current case, a shield with RPD -5/20%), but the cost does not make it worthwhile. I'm forced to use a lesser value shield from a drop, with imperfect stats for how I play.
One item as an example, a Communing Focus (E+12 Req 9 RPD -5/20% HP+30). Materials required: 150 tanned hide squares, 50 glittering dust and 5k gold. That's more than what's in some armor sets my characters wear, total.
All I'm saying basically is the cost is too much. Make them reasonable and people will make more use out of them, but still keep them a gold sink if you must.
...And would it hurt to make the skins more varied, like regional perhaps? Every weapon smith makes the same skinned Tactics shield, or Longbow, or stave... expensive and boring, no wonder they are rarely used anymore.

agreed, when I can get a green with relatively the same stats and cooler skin for the same price, or farm one myself... there is no reason for the weaponsmith to exist.
I think 1k + the current materials would be fine, and keep the same boring skins, 'cause the weaponsmith isn't supposed to be an artist, he mass produces weapons.

Prices should be capped at 1k,why should i pay 5k when i get collector items almost free?!!!

i think the skin should determine price not all the same

Back when I was a newb, I bought a sword from a weaponsmith. Worst thing I could've done, I was practically bankrupt after that (I was and still am poor). The prices could definitely afford to be lowered, 5k for a generic weapon is too much.

prices are already low enough...you can make 5k with any proffession in 5-6 minutes... no need to get everything in this game for free.

Making the Weaponsmith items cheaper would make collectors worthless.

I agree with the sentiment, why have weapon smiths when they are patently useless. Not quite as useless as the rare scrolls trader though. Where are the impressive rare scrolls. (double XP scrolls, pah)

I always do.Whats it to you? got money from ebay to pay for crap weapons 5k each?
arcanemacabre
I'd say, drop the cost to about 3k, and to make the collector more attractive, give them different/better-skinned items. Each collector could have a different skin for each item, almost like unique items. Obviously no rare-skinned items.

What annoys me about the current state of the weapon crafters in the Command Post. The one offering uninscribed weapons charges the exact same amount as the one crafting 15^50 or 15 while enchanted weapons. Personally I'd like to at least see prices reduced on the guy making the uninscribed weapons.

I think if some of the skins were updated, people might be able to accept the costs. But, high cost for something and it not being unique is kind of lame.
I got some armor made in Kaineng City and 1.5 Platinum PLUS the materials was a killer.... 4 Monstrous Claws and for just the head gear, OMFG! It just hurt that the Claws were 850 gold each from the Rare Materials Vendor. And this is the cheap stuff!
I have a bunch of 20's but I can't seem to accrue gold on any of them. I get 6-7k and then <poof> it's gone.
I don't see a set of 15k armor in my future. :/

And price in weaponsmith is fair enough. You know that is the cost for availability and convenience. They are always there and you can buy it whenever you want in 1 min.
Fine, if you want to save money and get collector items, then spend time farming for it or spend time spamming in town " WTB 5 etc..". The time you spend doing it is not worth saving 5k+ for weaponsmith AT ALL. But that's up to you tho.

As for the weaponsmiths, the 5k price is fine as you can just drop in, get the weapon, and that's it. Collector's take time to gather the materials and greens take time to farm for them. Of course you can always spam to trade for these things but that takes time as well. If I needed a max weapon of specific stats, I would rather be able to get it from the weaponsmith in 1 minute then waste my time trying to gather it when I make so much more money in the time saved.

Another idea shot down by the GW Elite...
I really don't know anymore why I try to suggest ideas to improve this game for those of us who aren't virtual millionaires. The only reply I get on the matter is "No, it's fine the way it is." Well you know what? No it obviously isn't fine if so many people agree with me. Certain items in this game cost too much and it needs to change.
Not all of us can spend hour after hour farming or power selling, we have lives outside this game. We sit down and enjoy it for a few hours, every other day or so. Despite what some say, you cannot earn 5-6k "with any profession in 5-6 minutes", unless you're a super-efficient farmer or run some kind of bot program.
And neither am I saying I should get everything in this game for free. Yes, there should be some work involved. But when 80% of your work goes to either other party members or AI henchmen, then you have to work that much harder to make any kind of difference in your own coffers. A lot of us don't have that kind of time!
Bottom line is weapon smiths cost too much, period. Leave the "prestige" armor prices alone, leave the material traders and skill trainers be, but for basic, useful equipment the prices must come down!
I'm not trying to sound rude, not trying to be a jerk or appear ignorant and certainly not pulling out the 'eBay card'. I'm just voicing my opinion on a topic that I, and many others, think is unbalanced and unfair.

While I agree that 5K seems abit much for a generic skin weapon I can't agree that it is alot of money. I see people saying that money is hard to come by all the time but I really don't understand how they find it so hard.
A couple of hints that I find helpfull.
1. Pick up all of your drops.
2. ID all of your white drops that are worth ~50g.
3. Pick up anyone elses drops that they leave behind if you are in the same area long enough for the assignment to go away.
4. If you run out of inventory space start salvaging some of the white drops to make more space.
By using the above tips myself I make alot of money. ID'ing white stuff actually increases the value and I make roughly an extra 2-2.5K per superior id kit. So I spend 500g and make 2-2.5K, not a bad profit.
I love people that leave their white junk drops behind. They are the people that are making me rich.
As an example I made an assassin three days ago. She already has a set of 15K Kurzick armor that was completly funded from her own gains, not one gold coin came from my storage. No farming was involved, just playing smart and useing the tips i posted above.
The weaponsmiths are fine the way they are. But, I will agree that the skins they offer are in serious need of an update.
EDIT:I realize that there are people that have nowhere near the amount of time to play this game that I do. Therefore it may take many people alot longer than 3 days to afford a set of 15K armor. The tips still apply no matter how much time you have available though. I am not trying to be a jerk to anyone that actually has a life and doesnt spend countless hours on GW like I do!

Reason? Well everything in the game have its up/down prices! If those weapons can be bought cheaper then there will be a waste for some of the green out there. Noone will ever use it and sell it to merchant. Plus why does the green prices drop so bad? It's because people like us FARM too much. Prices are even lower than ever! Everything have its own value! Weapon Smith has its own price as well...can not lower something just for someone comfort!

If greens are cheaper, then buy the green....
And chances are if a weaponsmith in a town is selling weapons that have max damage, you can probably go outside that town and kill a few things and find a max damage weapon out there.
You can get 3k and 4 mas dmg/def items in about 5 mins just look here. the first 4 u can run to solo maybe or just bring some henchies and have them kill. It says "Gold OR Purple" but i have only gotten gold items from them.

I don't think the prices of the weapon crafters should be lowered.
Of you want the weapon fast, you have to pay for it.
If you just want it and have time, get the comparable collectors weapon.
If you want it, but not that bad, just go kill stuff and wait till a nice weapon drops.
Atm, i'm waiting for a couple of lodestones to drop so I can get an offhand.
I can go buy the same offhand for 5K + crafting materials.
I don't buy the item because I don't need it right away and I know those lodestones will drop someday.
If I needed the offhand I'd buy for 5K.
It's quite possible to obtain a comparable offhand in a trade, for about 1K.
But then, I have to stand in town spamming in tradechat.
And hope for someone to sell.
I'd rather play.
Therefore I think the 5K + crafting is a good price for most items.

Its like someone who is on benefits who goes out and blows all their money on crap then cries when they cant buy stuff they need i.e. food. If you dont buy unnecessary crap in guild wars YOU WILL DEFINATELY be able to afford the weaponsmith weapons. Heck from questing through factions which I have done I could quite easily buy 15k armour....

You can make 5k by selling all your lame white/useless drops to the merch..in a day
5k is fine. Can't afford 5k? buy a max white weapon for 500-1k and customize it, that will give you the same dmg as an uncustomized 15^50
Caster items...use the collectors, I use collectors and I have plenty of money.

In many ways, things would be equalized with the inclusion of an auction house function in the game.
We are closer to that reality now that we have a Trade List function in the game, but your listing goes away as soon as you portal or log out. Also, it's not even close to being searchable or reliable because the item info isn't linked.
If we had an Auction House, every player could make money more efficiently from the resale of items. At the moment the people making the big money are the one's that devote large periods of in-game time working the in-efficient in-game trade system. But, that system contributes to chat spam and fraud.
Get us an auction house with semi-permanent, linked item listings.
Much would be resolved.

There are people who have posted on here how they have never farmed yet have FOW armour. Seems actually playing the game can get you gold

I find it hard to believe that you dont have any gold yet play the game

Playing the game will get you gold end of. Anyone who cannot afford the most basic of items i.e. max al armour or max dmg weapons clearly is doing something wrong.

I say yes and no.
Weapons need a sliding scale. 'clean' max weapons should be only 1K. Ones that come with inscriptions should be 3K.

I've asked many people. not only my guildies, allies and frienda, but in outposts and such.
NO ONE uses the crafters. That sucks.
So I had this idea some time ago:

I'm positive that idea would definitely make the crafters and option.

no one uses the crafters? i beg to differ. I had pretty much only crafter items on most of my characters and heroes and i've only been switching them out as i replace them with items i find through normal play. i finally got rid of all the crafter items a couple of weeks ago with some more finds while trading.
the crafters are fine as is.
for 5k, you get:
max weapon with stats of your choosing
saved time
5k is fairly easy to make.
getting a gold weapon with stats of your choosing with a good skin will most likely cost you a lot more than 5k from another player. if you farm for it yourself, you're going to be investing time into it. its a trade off and it works out fine.

drop the price of weaponsmith to 1-2k + materials
collectors dont give generic anymore, give nice but not godly skins.
this way if you want the better skin you collect or buy items. if you could give a damn about skins and just want the weapon you arent breaking the back for one. Alot of green items sell cheaper then crafters, cheaper would make them more useful and more used. If you were to go to someone irl under the same scenario you would get simple works are a regular crafter, a master crafter (now that worth 5k) would want something special as payment or a lot of money for rarer items.
did that make since or was i rambling?
