There is already the infamous 'antifarm' code, isn't it?
Just make it trigger sooner.
Solutions to the over farming problem!

As for your original argument, that GW is losing players who are turned off by one change or another and cannot adapt to a new playstyle, or have no desire to. Frankly, let them go. I have no use for people who are so moody about their online gaming experience.
Meanwhile, if you think "lower" prices are somehow discouraging new players, think again. New players don't need a lot of money (neither does anyone else, really), and soon enough they will be veteran players who know how to get it if they want it.
I played for an entire year, and enjoyed myself, with only around 30k in storage at any one time. Now I have many times that amount, just playing the game, opening treasures, and not buying novelty items at the inflated prices that you think should stay high. I don't power-farm (though I do a solo farming run once a day), I don't sell much, I don't eBay the money, and I also give away a lot to guildies and indulge my own armor desires from time to time.
I just mind my own business and play the game.

at the same time everybody else is town (the town is logically reasonably populated for you to have chosen it as a place to spam), sees that you sold yours cheaper. when they go to buy from the others who have advertised, they haggle with "the other guy was selling for 100k+3e."

This will make opportunity cost of the item become lower (With 4 hours of farming now only worth 180k compare to old time 300k per 4 hours of farming.) I do agrre with you this is the virtual world but it still have the same concept. In real world, if the real price of the item is higher than the selling price then there will be less and less people supply that item. In virtual world, part of the supplier who leave the market will also leave the world. Not all but part of them! And the lower the price, the less people playing the game. The less people playing the game, the more garbage Guildwars game become. Not worth the fun/time playing! About the botting, my ideas can reduce the botting in theorically. The more complicated you have to do before you can do what you want, the harder it is to program a bot. In the order word, my ideas can reduce botting and keep people on playing the game. In the bad side of course it will be insanely tough to set this up as people get used to old system of farming " Farm? repeat farming, fail? Try again!" |
Farming is not the issue, has never been the issue.
Low prices isn't the issue. Things should be cheap if they are in plenty. And cheap items aren't what's driving the online gold sales.
If you remove online game gold/item sales from the mix, mass farming loses much of it's appeal because everything you amass and gather will only be valued on the market in a much more realistic manner.
Legitimate farming will lower prices, as it should. This is very much like the real world economy. Wheat farmers became so productive during the last 50-60 years that their product became very cheap because it was no longer as scarce.
Small time farmers lost out because what they were bringing to the market couldn't compete with the larger and better equipped farms. Prices dropped and small time farmers that couldn't learn to compete had to find new livelihoods in the same way as the buggy-whip manufacturers had to do when horseless carriages became popular.
The point is that legitimate farming has a role to play, a service to provide and is a valid activity within the game.
The true culprit is bot/exploit farming AND online gold/items sales.
Bot/exploit farming on the surface can appear to lower prices but what it really is doing is causing in-game gold to deteriorate in value.
So, on the whole, you are dealing with hugely inflated prices because the REAL business in the online item and gold sales is for REAL money.
The cycle: real world money ->used to purchase in-game gold and directly or indirectly in-game items {REPEAT}
With the whole monetary system grossly inflated there is no such thing as "low" prices because we have no real idea what something is worth. This is because the in-game economy is being driven by an outside source: real world currency.
