G.O.M: Warriors go home?
Enchanted Warrior
After 2 hours all I see is "NO TANKS". All they want is casters, it's like TOPK's. Only ranged, I'm not very happy. What is the point to making a mission so hard most cannot do it?
Can someone explain it to me? (Please if it was easy, just move on. I really don't want this to turn into a "you suck" thread.).

Arkantos
PUGs suck and usually don't know what to take.
Enchanted Warrior
I've offered to pay, and nothing.. I'm really not happy, tried all times of the day, etc for a week or so.. nothing. Read gwiki until I'm crosseyed. Tried getting skills it recommends, and setting up heroes, controlling them via their panels etc.. I can get all but killing Shiro. I'm at wits end. I even practiced using Imperial sanctum. I know it's a lil different but was trying anything.
Effendi Westland
I don't know what wiki recommends but price of failure, reckless haste, spiteful spirit, spoils victor, empathy and wild blow are key skills here. So for heros i would take 2 x necro and a spare warrior so you can set them up right. Paragon, 2 x monk and mesmer as henchies.
Mournblade
The people who say NO TANKS are sheep who can't come up with an original build.
I finally got into a PUG the other day for this mission with my ranger - it was actually three players and heros, but it worked. (Dervish tank, I was an interrupt ranger with pindown, and a monk) Get this though - we breezed through the mission with ease and when we reached the end, I couldn't get them to free the shrines! We killed Shiro so easily, and yet we didn't get masters because they were so paranoid.

Just got "Wail of Doom" tried it on Imop sanct..yup waste of time.. Oh well, Necro has new toy lol
I appreciate the suggestions, A guy in camp just told me the wiki is all opinion and nothing is carved in stone.. Ugh I'm going to buy some crayons..

If anyone wants to lead group, I'll pay 10k to get through it. 15k if we get masters.
isamu kurosawa
i did it on my dervish using a reapers sweep build and taking wild blow myself, zhed as blinding surge air spiker, koss as dragon slasher, prot hero and the following hench:
Mhenlo
Gehraz
Sogolon
Odurra
Breezed the mission with 0 deaths and wiped shiro with ease. I ran this because prefious times ive used spoil voctor necro etc and this worked just as well, if not faster.
Also ran spirit spammer when i played Rt and trapped shiro in a circle of spirits (they trigger his riposting shadows, its quite fun to watch him bouncing around)
as long as you can end a stance and apply heavy pressure he drops with no troubles.

People say no to tanks for a reason. They're f*cking useless and a waste of space.
Warriors on the other hand, they have a use. A warrior deals damage, get this simple fact right, they have more armour than all other professions making them a tank already without the need for useless builds.
Tbh though i find it easier to just solo (or duo if i'm not N or Mo) with hench/heros while they cap all the shrines getting me masters. Worked for my Mes, Necro and Monk (only thought of doing it then).
Oh and Wild Blow isn't required. Wild Strike and Wild Throw do the job just as well. Hench beat pugs anyday, at least you know you can give them builds that will actually work.

Well most of the groups there consider all warriors, as tanks so they get told to piss off.
trekkie dude
just make a W/Mo, set your skills as much healing, then before entering the mission switch back to warrior skills. just make sure that you tell people to grab another monk because of your "low" energy level.
Bryant Again
Well...I'm sorry, I dunno what I could reccomend. I used my warrior along with his hero-hench team and I just kinda winged it and was careful to watch aggro.
If it's any help, I had brought along Koss, Dunkoro (Word of Healing monk) and Zhed as a Searing Flames ele. It may've been Koss or Olias as MM, I don't remember.
But yeah, I'd suggest that if you need a mission done: Bring Heros and henchies. They heal you faster than a pug can, exploit corpses quicker than a normal MM, and they listen to your instructions via flagging.
(Also, I'm pretty sure I didn't bring Wild Blow. I really don't know how I did this.)
Anyways, I wish you the best of luck, man.

actually I think a tank does have a role. If you can convince all the casters that they really do need to kite when shiro breaks from the tank, and he re-establishes aggro on the tank, it makes this one easier. A good tank can use tactics to evade most of his nasty attacks, can cripple him when he takes a run at a caster, and can wild blow his stance.
Slight digression: PUGs here are the luck of the draw. When I've been a character who is in demand here, I can make a difference, and make up for others. When I'm a crappy character, like my paragon and derv, I got lucky and found PUGs who had their main bases covered......eventually.
Advice to Enchanted Warrior is this: try to get into a PUG that has done this a few times and know what to bring (just listening to team chat can confirm this). If you can't find one pretty quick, don't stay there spamming 'tank lfg' for an hour.......go do something else and come back a little later.

Enchanted, the thing that made the shiro part a walk in the park was to flag the hench in the correct place just outside the fortress. Put them at the point just where he will lose aggro and he just runs back and forth and will not touch the hench for more than one hit. Just bring a decent evade skill and you can tank him pretty easy. His last bit of health took awhile to get down but i did not bring spoil victor, empathy, wild blow or spiteful.
Good luck If your still having trouble, i can take you through it, just pm me.

Wild Blow.
Disable any skills on your heroes that cause conditions once he starts to use Impossible Odds.
Honestly the first time I did that mission it was with heroes/henchmen and found it pretty easy. I didn't have Wild Blow or any +AL boosts, and sat there while Shiro pounded away at my warrior. I disabled all skills on my heroes' bar with +damage so they were simply autoattacking so Impossible Odds wasn't a threat, and stopped using my own +damage skills as well. No cookie-cutter builds or anything, just pounded on him with auto attacks. I may have ordered Cynn + Herta back so their AoE wouldn't break aggro.
The only real hard part was forcing Shiro onto my warrior I found.

One question, dont you have any friends or guidlies to group w/ ?
fb2000
on my warrior i henched this mission (well, as every other mission :P). once u get to shiro just make sure u always move, while getting the shrines (they do help, its not only bonus). when u have them all, run toward the exit of the temple or whatever it is, then flag your henchies to stay outside, and you aggro shiro and stay on that doorway. if things go bad and you die, shiro will go a bit to the outside, then break aggro and go back in. might take a few times like this but it sure did work.
on my monk, we had 2 eles, 2 monks and i think 1 mm, 1 para and the rest was melee (a warrior and an assassin). one of the eles was blinding shiro, the assassin was "tanking" him, and a monk stayed to heal him. the rest did the shrines, and then just pounded onto Shiro.
hope it helps

Losers.
My main Charry(A War) got through this a week or two ago. I got my guild leader, we grabbed some heroes and Hanchies and some random mesmer. Took two tries, but I got masters. Wild Blow is your friend.

Time to look for a new place where they can help you out with missions?

I got Masters on GoM, with my main char (sword W), at my first attempt, using heroes and henchies. And I didn't bring any the Lightbringer skills.
Just follow the guide on guildwiki. A curses Necro helps a lot here. And yes, Wild Blow is your friend :-)

Oddly enough... The guide on wiki did nothing for me..
Actually beat this by luring Shiro up the stairs to the doorway area, flagging healer/nuker heroes out of sword range, and having the wammo kite him like mad in Benny Hill style circles until victory was ours via sporadic nuking and vigorous wanding. Oh well...

Gate of Madness is the most difficult mission in NF, but all it takes to beat it is at least 2 members who can drop stances (Wild Blow, Wild Strike, Wild Throw). Can't find people who are competent enough not to screw up? Heroes and henchmen can do this just fine.

All I did to win the last battle was kill the lich first, than my henches and heros kited around Shiro and we went and captured all the shrines. No Wild Blow was brought, but dayam it probably would've helped.

Pretty simple mish with a good team.
Got there.
Pulled shiro back.
Killed (Wild Blow helps)
Went capping shrines, told monk to avoid enchants due to Lich.
Killed Lich
Lots of nukers helps on this mission btw.
I ALWAYS run this team build:
1 Tank (WB)
1 SV Nec (Or Fast Casting Me/N)
1 Heal monk
1 Prot monk
3 SF Nukers
1 SH Warder
Pretty simple, watch the aggro though.

Actually you do need a tank on this mission, unlike most other missions. You need a tank who can keep up a 75% block/evade and have wild blow, mostly Assassins with Flashing Blades or Rangers with their numerous stances fit well. With all the miss hexes from a necro/mesmer and 75% block from the tank, Shiro will be doing damage worth half a rat's rear end.
With the new update warriors reducing duration & recharge of warrior stances, though, warriors don't have the energy to keep up block stances up permanently and still Wild Blow Shiro, so they aren't really that useful.
If you don't use tanks, Shiro will start wailing on squishies, and although its possible to do it that way its just not worth it.
Place the tank at the entrance to the temple. It is the outer limit of Shiro's aggro range, so he won't attack any of the squishies. Even if Riposting Shadows teleports him to a squishie he will maybe attack once and then start heading back towards the tank.

Well, ive never once done it with any form of tank, and never had a problem with it.
others posting here seem to have left it out also.
there are many ways of beating this mission, and the most effective happen to not involve the usual tank, healer, nuker setup you find people running so often.

uhmmm masters with warrior and ele, both with pugs. gg
VorianVader
I have never used PUGs for this and always henched/heroed for masters. Done it on two characters so far i.e. Warrior and Ranger.
I always use a curse necro hero with spoil victor etc and wild blow on my character or on hero warrior (spam it manually).
And I always kill Shiro first, I pull him all the way out of the temple and fight him at the entrance. Once he is dead, I run around capping the shrines while ignoring the lich. This is the tricky part as the lich is such a pushover that you might accidentally kill him before you cap the shrines......hence losing masters.

look at all the people saying pugs=noob and henh/hero everything. sure it's more true than it is false, but with the expansion of campaigns and spreading out of players, many missions force players to hero/hench. co-op play near dead? i have to say that i'm getting less interaction with players than i did with the good ole days (prophecies only ftw). now if i need to do something pve i usually hench/hero or go wtih guildies and hero. forming a group is more of a hassle now, outposts are less populated......a one player game it has become, and oh the interest is gone.....

Indirectly, ur just saying that PuG sucks. And i definetly agree.
Took my dervish and warrior through there, didn't counter issues with getting team, guess was my lucky day huh.
Gratz enchanted for making through!

I do enjoy missions like these. What missions? The ones which don't require warriors. I'm sorry to the OP you're having trouble with it...but throughout Factions my ele (*shrugs* - dunno why) had quite a hard time finding a PuG...at least up until Unwaking Waters. Everybody needed "Tanks" and frankly it was just annoying. It seemed to be a different story in Elona - Eles seem to be more in demand generally now. I apologise if I seem a little cold-hearted but a lot of my characters got knocked back a lot when I first started out in Factions because people wanted warriors.
Recently I decided to make a warrior and I'm still not *that* keen on them. One thing I would say is...to all those people saying "you don't need wild blow"..."can't you think of something more original" etc... Why? When the lightbulb was invented people didn't think "But I must find my own way to make one". Sure, wild throw etc.. may work as well but there's no point in going out of your way to find another way of removing Shiro's stance when one way is perfectly good enough.
I didn't mean this to be a "zomg haa haa I hate warriors" post...I'm just tyring to make the point that there are very few missions warriors are "less required" in...Mesmers, Sins, Rits have a much harder time getting into groups generally. And remember, there are always hench. That seemed to be my only option when I got my Dervish there...I'd just get into groups with 4 wammos and another dervish shouting "need 2 monks"...I just thought "screw this" and went in with hench. With careful planning you can easily hench that mission.

being a warrior at unwaking waters used to suck! No way to attack the dragon...
Of cause one mesmer is enough to take care of the dragon and you can send the warriors into the befallen monsters but its not like the average player knows that.
But i still found a random group and completed the mission. The trick is: START a group.
Everyone wants to join a 7/8 group and many players are too lazy to start and organize a new group. If you start a group you have better chance to do the mission with your "unwanted" class.
Only once i encoutered a monk who joined my group (as No. 7) and told me to kick the assassin (already in the group) because he doesn't want to heal him (such a stupid $/%)"§ ). Well i kicked him and completed the mission with hench healer.
PS: Tanks are useless if the rest of the group runs into the enemy too. Never expect a random group to stay out of the tanks aggro circle even if you tell them to do so

GOM = my sins home. I swear my video made me famous there O_O I always get instant party invites from people wanting me to solo Shiro... yay
Raaaaa
I always thought tanks were useful for that mish. where you kill lich, get the shrines then leave the tank in the doorway and circle around so shiro sticks to the tank while the rest pound from long range.
I did it easily enough with nec, rit and derv but my ranger kept failing with like a fraction of shiros health left before wipe out. So I adopted that tactic with devona as my doorway tank and with Morghan with wild throw (or whichever it is that removes stances) and managed it pretty easy after that

im at gate of pain now(with my war) and im basically scared. ive done about 90% of nf with my war totally with heros/hench. now, i may begin using real people.

imo, getting to Shiro is harder than beating him. Damn overlapping Torment and Margonite patrols...

Just formed my own group, explained that I was actually quite experienced at tomb runs and that I wanted to try something fresh and all went well.
As for gates of madness, you only have to make sure theres wild blow and some anti-melee hex and your set. Bring 2 monks and you got 4 spots to put whatever you like in there (Even a mesmer YAY)
You certainly dont need a tank to do shiro in, just learn to start running when a bad guy comes for you, lure him to a minion, a pet or another player for all I care :P. A good group owning shiro does that while dancing in circles around him.

don't know about you guys... but i essentially degened him to death using a BA ranger. the group i went in with had essentially zero idea about doing the mission except for some general hints. none of us even knew what impossible odds did until that little bastard start using it. after everyone except me hit 60 DP, i just told them to run in a circle as i shot him. worked like a charm.
