Possible Tanking Ability...
Samurai-JM
Before I even post the build(DONTSCROLLDOWNZOMG), how does this sound?
70 base armor at all times.
110 armor against elemental damage, and 51 armor against physical damage while the stance is up is up.
130 armor while attacking without the stance.
170 armor against elemental damage, and 111 armor against physical damage while the stance is up and while attacking.
All while having a 75% chance to block physical damage.
Sound good? Well if you haven't guessed already, this build idea uses Elemental Resistance and Critical Defenses, combined with 4 Nightstalker's Insignias, for a formidable defense. But is there room for offense in such a build? Why not?
10+1+2 Dagger Mastery, 11+2 Critical Strikes, 8 Shadow Arts, 6 Inspiration.
[skill]Elemental Resistance[/skill][skill]Critical Defenses[/skill][skill]Jagged Strike[/skill][skill]Wild Strike[/skill][skill]Critical Strike[/skill][skill]Moebius Strike[/skill][skill]Death Blossom[/skill][skill]Shadow Refuge[/skill]
Derived from my A/W Physical Tank(aka the Chkkr Farmer), this build has total defense against nearly anything the enemy can throw at you, while still providing substantial spiking DPS. It still has many counters, most of which are standard Blind, Empathy, Enchant Removal, but are they not common of nearly all builds? The only real problem that can't be countered by a simple monk is removal of the first two skills, which can be covered by Nightstalker's Insignias and healing from Shadow Refuge.
Feigned Neutrality is not suggested, as Shadow Refuge heals just as much, much more often, and is great while attacking for the armor boost from NS Insignia's and a spike heal at the end.
So... Any suggestions?

Maybe a stance canceller for when you are only taking physical damage to have 120+ armor vs. physical? [skill]Dark Escape[/skill] would be nice. With 13 in crit strikes and zealous daggers you should have more than enough energy, so you shouldnt need critical strike. Your attack chain could be [skill]Jagged Strike[/skill][skill]Wild Strike[/skill][skill]Death Blossom[/skill][skill]Moebius Strike[/skill]

He uses Critical Strike to ensure the Crit hit.

It looks like you're making the Insignias cumulative, which, IIRC, they aren't. They apply the armor bonus only on the piece they're on. It's still a nice idea, and you'll still have 125 vs. elemental and 75% to block.

And crit defense, much unlike a rangers stances, can be kept up FOREVER! Coloneh

Easier survival, less pressure on monks, less pressure on yourself, not as many worries about DP and dying loads of times. Not useful you say?

Yeah, I realized that when I watched the video of him fighting Shiro. Would still be nice to some how get dark escape in there somewhere for when you are taking physical damage rather then ele damage.
And why not tank on assasin? (to who ever said it was lame) I'm sure the idea of a tanking Monk also sounded "lame" at first. centur
few notes
1. You can get [skill]Malicious Strike[/skill] to refresh your Crit defense, its not really required to use critical strike as dual attack. Also if you get [skill]Critical Eye[/skill] on you your critical defense will usually refresh with your other skills (you have ~ 13(dagger mastery) + 19(crit strikes x 1.5) ~13 (crit eye) = 45 chance to crit I tried this and it works for me 95% of the time). Key problem is that Critical defense is enchantment and can be stripped easily (and usually - with [skill]Chilblains[/skill] or any mesmer). If you want to tank - choose between [skill]Flashing Blades[/skill] and your [skill]Elemental Resistance[/skill] But imo as stated previously - tanks dont need anymore. You will keep less pressure on your monks if you will kill pressuring enemies fast. of course in some situations tanks can help a lot, but right now its usually Warriors or Paragons or Earth Elementalists(/mesmers). Fit your profession - be an assassin, not bodyguard =) PS hmm why my skill tags noit working ? i put it exaсtly as in upper post =( Yanman.be

I have no suggestion but Oh likey likey I show my usual build to you too ^^ I am a heavy assassin user as well except I use way of the assassin to keep up my critical hits for my critical defence and Death retreat to escape to closest ally as well as way of perfection for healing and prevent my critical defence being striped unless there is more than 1 enemy that can strip enchantments and they all target me.
but if i do get close and land the combos its hurts alot. what i use to fight shiro in night fall, works well in other places as well attributes:10 Dagger Mastery, 11+1 Critical Strikes, 10+1+3 Shadow Arts, jagged strike, wild strike, critical strike, way of the assassin ,critical defence ,critical eye , way of perfection or shadow refuge, dark escape or death retreat. I know my build doesnt have that massive damage spike but when chained up its still hurts alot :P but i try not to tank at front i mostly jump in kill a target and run away if i cant kill it i run anyway. and use critical to keep energy up clawofcrimson
aside from shiro...i dont see where tanking would come in handy...ever
the best skills you have as an assasin are geared toward 'get in , kill, get out' Spartan Link
well assassin's are too weak to fight continusly right ^^? but if we can reduce the dmg we take we can stay fighting longer no ^^?

^My point exactly! Im not tryin to tank really... I'm kinda bad with werds like that. I want to make a sin that can SURVIVE for long amounts of time in mobs.
And spartan, WotA and CE are kind of wasted when you have critical strike as a 100% crit. Div
I think I like this better:
80 armor at all times. 110 armor vs elemental at all times. What it requires? A ranger with beastmaster's insignia or how about this... 100 armor vs elemental, 100 armor vs physical, 80 armor at all times. Warrior with sentinel's armor :P But yeah, depending on the situation I might like physical resistance better...or with your build I'd just dump it completely and just go with 75% block with more damage. clawofcrimson
I try my best to avoid playing my sin in pve....sigh need those elites though .... so I dont need to survive in big mobs in pvp
