Whats going to happen to guild wars if it becomes outdated?
Spartan Link
( I have no idea where to post this so if its in the wrong place post a reply and i'll post it some where else or if there is a existing thread already please point me to that page)
I have been thinking about what would happen if guild wars becomes outdated or play nc and area net decided not to support the game any more,(since the next generation games are already here)
I am hoping that if they do decide not to support the game any more they would release a patch for us gamers so that the game will be playable offline, and have like LAN and Internet connection as options as well as providing some servers for those who wants to play PvP and PvE with others,
I know this would make the game seem really pointless at some point, with the in game econmy, faction territory, trading, farming selling and things like that .
But this is just something i've been thinking about, I mean to me if there is no offline options when this games life span is up it would feel like.....well kinda of a waste and I 'd feel like I have spent my money for a game that has limited life span.
This is a great game its fun with others and fun solo too, thou I solo the game most of the time but thats just me. so yeah just a thought.

if someone is good enough, or wants it enough.. they'll make an emulator..
would be nice if Anet/PlayNC decided to release the server when the time arised.

It wont become out-dated. Graphics and support engines will be updated again. CGI's will be re-made for the new era's...There's no closing down a world-wide server...Take Diablo II for eg. Still running after 10yrs. So that says a lot and their making a 3rd diablo game with new cgi graphics. So nothing ever goes out of business in the gaming world. Just keeps updating and updating.
ZenRgy
You get a new game.
Evilsod
We get a new game and Anet/NCSoft become known as the makers of a once great RPG that failed because they were too f*cking lazy to fix minor problems or even comment on major problems.

Laziness is too subjective to be used as a scapegoat.

D2 is still supported, I see no reason they wouldn't continue to support GW as well.

This game will run just about as long as WoW will. And WoW ain't gonna shut down anytime soon.

Though most likely years away before this happens, Anet will either:
Shut down the servers for GW1 completely.(assuming there is a GW2)
or
....
then Profit!
Technology wise, GW isn't the cutting edge, high system spec game that other games are becoming. Speculation on when GW2 is made, that Anet may try to raise the bar from GW1, but still keep it with reason for more average PC user systems friendly (aside from internet connections). So being "outdated" in the sense of technology, could be sooner than we may realize. Imagine GW running on the graphic capabilities of some new games coming out soon? I guess a decent example would be Crysis..Imagine what GW would look like if it had graphics like that!

The scary part is though that even if there is an offline option it won't be much different at all than it is now

I think they'd take it offline when a very low number of players were still playing.
Diablo II is much different from an MMO. In Diablo II, you can connect to the internet and set up a game, no moderation needed. To my knowledge, Guild Wars has servers up 24/7, and I think that costs money.
Now if they close they down, they'd have had a good reason. A *very* low number of players would be the best excuse, and especially so if they release GW2.
If they shut them down, I probably won't mind. I think I'd have moved onto other things by then.

Another older MMO, cant remember name, when they decided to shut down the server, they threw a little going away party for the last few dedicated players. I think there was a clock that counted down the time till the server would be turned off, and the players were all saying thier goodbyes, when the developers decided to have a bit of fun by spawning some high end bosses in the towns and just making things go crazy. May not mount to much, but go out with some fun.
Still, this will be years in the future and most likely way after GW2 is released.

I would have to say that when all interest in GW1 is lost or not to much logging on then I see it shutting down. There are a few things to mention and that is some may want to pick it up from time to time as GW is not a P2P game like WoW that keeps you on the server. It would be nice to have a offline version of it as well as a Indepentant server like IOGC or GSA using their servers for online play and the game coming with some editors or a server kit.
I experienced some off this as I had some Internet Issues and couldn't get on the server or would get lots of error 58s untill I got my system fixed. This game has more of an RTS feeling to me.

thread already made about a month ago (too lazy to provide a link tho :P). I think this is the wrong forums too hehe considering there's no suggestion, just players ranting .

Well... there are GW boxes in stock.
As long as someone buy a GW box anywhere, they'll have to support the game.
So, if they shut down servers, they'll have to refund those who bought the game after the shutting down or entirely remove the stock...
Since removing ALL the stock in the wrold is impossible, GW1 will still be for some more time...

as long as WoW is profitable for Blizzard, they have put all of their other projects on hold. Look what happened to Starcraft: Ghost. game was nearly complete yet they didn't finish it since they put all of their resources into WoW
Faer
Why not make Guild Wars and Fractions play at home off line
