A like minded ranger.

Tbh i think if enough players openly talk about it they might add more transferable features into the new game.

I'm not sure I like some of the things that will be introduced in GW2, namely very high or no lvl caps. The synopsis of the PC Gamer article seems to raise more questions then it answers, I guess I will have to wait for my own copy to get a more complete picture. That being said Anet has always done a superb job and I am not too worried about GW2, just slightly concerned. my biggest question is this; Will there still be an HoH?

This. Yes, they're radically changing. Some people are going to like it. Some aren't. If you don't like the ideas that GW2 is bringing to the table, then by all means don't buy it--the fact that it's going to seem a lot more like a traditional MMO will get them plenty of new players.

I'm rather confident that it'll still be different enough from other MMOS to warrant my purchase (continued lack of a subscription fee certainly helps), though I'm rather curious as to more details. Time will tell.

Gaile, the reason I play GW is because, like I've said, I've grown attached to my characters. All 17 of them actually. Without any kind of transfer to GW2 you can count me out of GW2.

All the investment; 2 copies of each campaigns, 2 collector editions, 2 pre-order, 1 GOTY edition, extra character slots.... ALL gone down the drain because you can't implement a simple character transfer. I don't care about weapons, or armor. It's the characters.

Someone said that GWEN was taking the whole Guild Wars bus on the right road. Right until that bus went down, Wile E. Coyote style, down the ravine with that "no character transfer" thing in GW2.

THUD!
Bingo! I feel the exact same. they could strip my chars and drop their level to 1, but I'd rather do that then not have them there.

I have a question about how skills/attributes will be implemented in GW2. Will skills still be limited to a certain quantity, or will the player be able to use all the skills available to him?

Since the level cap seems to be so high how will this effect attributes? As you continue to gain levels will you continue to be able to put more points into attributes? Will there be a limit? Or is it going to be something entirely differernt?

God you people are freaks! This game is AT LEAST a year down the road, and this is just the first information we are getting NOTHING and I repeat, NOTHING is set in stone on it.

You're freaking out and some of you threatening to quit now...what a bunch of hypersensitive drama queens!!!! You don't think that ANet released some if not all of this information to gauge how it's current fanbase would react and get input?

Though I am not thrilled at the aspect of not being able to cross over my GW1 character...WOW, let me freak out and totally ignore the fact that there is already something mentioned to help with that problem. We don't know what it is or how it will work...keep jumping to conclusions...and rage quit if you want, but please do it now so the rest of us that are willing to wait and see don't have to listen to your bitching and whining for the next 2 years. UGH!!!!

So now like everyone else I sit back and wait to see what will come to us now. Off to play GW. Happy Hunting or Complaining whatever you feel you must do.

Currently they said you can transfer minipets. This is most likely so your old characters can grow older, ahve more birthdays, get more minipets....and then give them to their future selves later.

PS: People are threatening to quit now because they don't want to be playing a game the know will be killed off shortly. Yes, a year or two to some of us is shortly. I've been playing GW ~2 years.
This is like buying a car, then being told it will only work for a year. Sure, you way want it, but is it worth the investment?

This everything I've hoped Guild Wars would be. I'm glad some of the people here will leave and others will stay. I think it will get a fanbase that is more consistant. It always seemed to me that there were two types of gamers playing this game anyway... while GW2 seems like it'll focus more on.. my type and frankly the more generic mmo style (which I don't know if I would say that about GW2 just yet) is however going to bring in more people than the people who leave.. especially if it has a better MMO + free to play.

Two thumbs up!

Though I will say A.Net is sneaky.. I was going to skip Eye of the North but NoOo I have to get it for this monument thing Good call.

Lol. Character Transfer isn't "simple", btw. And I think a new start is great. You already got what you wanted, sweet memories from playing Guild Wars. Now you can create even better ones with Guild Wars 2.

Ok... this is very HOT! I couldn't finish reading Inde's entire post before making a post of my own. I got to this part:

"Tyrian catacombs stretch across the entire continent presumably"

My jaw just dropped. I LOVE the presearing catacombs, and just thinking of more areas like that definitely has me excited.

I also saw on the cover there is info about Shadowrun and Hellgate:London (the only other 2 games in the universe I'm anticipating). Looks like I'm gonna buy my first gaming magazine, since I cancelled my Nintendo Power subscription 10 years ago. LOL

I'll post more of my thoughts, when I actually finish reading the thread.

Wow, except for the raised level cap (which I'm not too happy about), GW:EN sounds like a GW player's dreams come true. Well, those of us who care about the storyline, anyways. There are posts all over this and other forums wondering about whats in the Maguuma Jungle, whats North of Kryta and the Shiver Peaks, where the Charr came from, what happened to the catacombs, and most importantly; what the heck happened to Gwen!? It seems like they finally decided to re-visit Tyria, which many of us have wanted for a long time.

Damn you, ANET, and I was just starting to lose my interest in GW after 2 years. :P

Can't wait to get that magazine, two more weeks for us non-subscribers .

If that's true, wouldn't screaming like drama queens work?

I mean, if Anet announces a features, the entire community explodes and claims the sky is falling, I'd say that's clear indicator for Anet to think "Hmm... let's not mention that again and pretend we never even suggested it :s"

well i've been reading some of the other posts from other people and came to such a conclusion as this..............why buy eotn when all that you do there shall be worthless in the following campaign? oh wait but they have what they would like to call an answer for that "a monument system" although having a giant statue of my ranger in a game with a listing of all the stuff he had and the caption reading: "RANGERMAN THE ALMIGHTY" would be kick 4$$ i still personally believe ACTUALLY PLAYING my character will be worth so many more hours of fun. and another thig ANET if you are reading any of these posts, notice mine.. right here specifically: NOT ALL PEOPLE AVOID PLAYING WoW BECAUSE OF THE FEES THEY AVOID IT BECAUSE IT IS AN ENDLESS GRIND, (and by doing this) making a extremely high level cap WILL TURN IT INTO ANOTHER WoW (i.e. scaring away all the consumers who came here to avoid WoW) anet and ncsoft you were THE original think outside the box MMO makers and now your just being like everyone else, i'm severly dissapointed in yall, i expected so much more

I'm going to share my thoughts on this not as any sort of official position, but just as a personal opinion as a gamer. When I played Diablo II, I did not have a portal to magically carry over my Diablo characters. When I played Half-Life 2, I didn't get to carry over my chars or weapons from HL. Sim City 3000? Nothing moved from the earlier Sim Cities. Civilization 2 didn't have a tie to Civ. MoO 2 wasn't MoO with the same guys. I didn't keep my 10-wheeler from Railroad Tycoon when I started Railroads.

You catch my drift?

Yes, some of you have played a long time. Dwayna knows I have played Guild Wars a long while, too, and I put time in all those other games, as well. But as the article says, GW 2 offers a whole new world, it's not even the same century, and goodness, I feel that it's ok to start fresh! Yes, I'll miss my characters. But I know that the ones I make in GW2 will be even better.

Mostly, I want to point out that these GW->GW2 changes are a long time away! The article mentions a beta in 2008, right? I vote we look to the distant future with positive anticipation, and to the near future with joy.

Again, just my two cents.

So anyone find any info on how and what the skill/attribute/build system will be like? Seriously, it's one of the best things about GW....being able to make unique builds and it being such a flexible system. Hope it stays in GW2.

Thanks a lot ArenaNet. I was beginning to get bored by the limitations here. I really like the concept of GW2 and GW:EON as it is, and I am very excited with this.

Trust ArenaNet. First, because as a no-monthly fee game grind doesn't need to be linked with leveling. WoW needs MASSIVE grinding because it is a game with monthly-fees, therefore needing to glue you into the game for the most time possible. A no-monthly fee game gains nothing by adding too much grind on their game, and if it's going to survive from expansions, they'll have to work on content with quality if they want us to keep playing their game, and they have glued me perfectly in a way that I'll be following and trusting them until they disappoint me.

First of all, great organization on the first poset Inde, much easier to read.

I haven't read through this entire thread, but I'm going to assume it's filled with "What was the point?", "Not another WoW!' and such. For all of you: It is just a game! All games end, and like previously posted, it's the journey, not the destination. Guild Wars entertained you right? Then you didn't waste your time. Maybe it wasn't here for long, but you enjoyed it while it was here. Personnaly, I can't wait for GW2 to come out, I am very excited over the increased lvl cap and...well everything!

There are only 2 questions left for me:

Should I go to the Charr Homeland or join the resistance against The Great Destroyer first?

And, how do I get in the beta?!?!

I'll worry about changes when the time comes. Right now we still have another two years of Guild Wars before the new, entirely separate game comes out.
The big question though: What the heck does a female Charr look like?!?

Well... GJ anet on hard mode, however from here on out I think i'll be saying goodbye to furthering in guildwars. I've worked endlessly on my chars for over 20 months now logging so many hours id be ashamed to say how many even here. Alot of that translates to "all the fow armor you've gotten, all the attachments to your chars are worthless and pointless" imo this is the ultimate smackdown to the farming lovers. My hours, life, and time spent on gw go into the form of my chars which will now be basically "dead," literally and figuratively, by the time of GW2. I have always loved GW, even when others thought factions was a bust at first. Unless something changes to convince me otherwise, I might aswell go pick something else up (and no, i will not be buying GW:eye of the north any time within at least 6 months of its' release). The community is severly split on this, and although char transfer would require alot of work on anets behalf, they've done harder in shorter amounts of time, the scary thought that i'm receiving is "they dont want to." It IS a fantasy game and there are many obvious ways in which chars could seemingly transfer over (could anyone say ETERNALS?) while allowing others to still be able to create new chars.
P.S. This also ruins current game play because as you play you can simply consider "why am i doing this...it's pretty much pointless..."

So, in conclusion, while GW2 may be an awesome game at that, currently my roots in GW1 keep me where I am, remove those roots and i probably wont stay where I am very long

Oh, I get your point entirely.

My honest opinion would be play the game however you enjoy it. If that is maxing titles, farming, RA, GvG, HA, UW/FoW, Fissure Armor or collecting items... for whatever reason you began playing GW1, continue to play it for that reason.

For instance, I've played the game since it's come out. As a college student I find plenty of time to play and usually less time to sleep, so I'd say I'd be a high-end casual player or perhaps "hard core" depending upon whatever definition of that you use.

Most of my characters are around the Desert in Prophecies, Eternal Grove in Factions and that single player festival part in Nightfall. Out of the possible 30 campaigns beaten (3x10), I've got about six done. I'm in no rush to PvE-out my characters, and I never use a runner (aside from once or twice for Droks.)

I've got into a huge PvP stint, designing builds, figuring out interesting combos etc. I'm trying for Gladiator titles and maxing out the Kurzick-donating title. This is what currently interests me. It will change to something else later, I'm sure.

What I also do, is play with my two roommates, helping the one that's only got Prophecies, and trying to catch up to my other one that's beat every campaign with every character (and he's pre-med! Where does he get the time?!)

To sum it up, my advice is play the game however you enjoy it. Whether it ends today, or a decade from now, shouldn't change that.

Seriously, some of you really need to get a grip. You are complaining about features that are going into a game that is still AT LEAST 2 YEARS AWAY FROM GOING GOLD!!!!! Hell, the beta doesn't even drop for probably a year. Alot can, and probably will, change in that time. You all just need to relax.

Way to many people who are resistant to change. The only thing that anyone seems to be complaining about is the lvl cap and all of a sudden its "this game is now like all other mmo". As long as there is no monthly fee or in game transactions then that is my main concern. I would like to see my characters transfered to GW2 in some way at least, if not the character itself(it is 100 years later after all) perhaps weapons and items owned by my old chars that can be transfered to my gw2 account and customized as a green or something. Or perhaps the transfer of account hours, extra emotes for people who have played since the beginning unlocked for GW2 through transfer.

You know...i actually like the idea of no more new professions...theyve just combined 2 or more profs to make the new profs in factions and nightfall...which means more content for the core classes...and new races? how awesome is that!? More freedom of movement? less instances? Can anyone say Gud-bye WoW?

Personally I like the idea of starting over fresh. Even though I have 10 characters I know that in order to GROW some sacrifices need to be made. I am sure my titles will transfer forever ensconced into the great trophy hall.

I will play GW2 when it comes out because GW has been so good to me over the last 2 years. Even if I play a new race, name, and class I'm cool with it.

Sorry guys but changes need to be made so the game can evolve. Think about it with all the player feedback the past 2 years the Dev Team will know what is important to the players things like the ability to change hair styles and real balanced PvP with mass battles etc...

They have great feedback on 10 great original character classes with new idea’s to boot.

The more I think about it the more I like what I hear..

well after re reading the article i feel i have to say i cant wait till is out so i can buy it, ive been playing guild wars since it came out and i have to say that im really really really bored so i guess that Gw eye of the north and Gw2 will be refreshing. and y do so many people panic about grind...normal gw is already mass grind if you have nothing to do, grind for light bringer, grind for sunspear title, grind to get that money for skills, grind in pvp....yes yes i know u dont need to grind to be like the other people(collectors etc etc) i already know that. Anyways i cant wait, i dont really care about my characters since ive deleted them like a zillion times.

With GWEN, it is the closing of the current commercial guild wars story. You can't say it would never come. I myself thought it would continue longer, but I am more than pleased with the progress they have made, and more than understanding that creating more and more level 1-20 campaigns would become dry. For those of you who will not buy because of the lack of professions, what more can you really ask for? The massive bulk of skills in this game allows for a character to play any desirable role, and making a new prof. would be more work than we should ask for.

The number of skills and armor is only mildly disappointing, but I trust that the rest of the expansion will more than make up for it. It is, in fact, only an expansion. If you think GW is going to die a sudden, tragic death, you are so wrong. It will remain one of the finest out there. Slowly people will some in to an excellent game with everything set up and ready to go, not worried about falling behind with the flow of campaigns.

Guild Wars 2 not ick, which is about the only thing that has been said so far. You do not know yet the outcome of an infinite level cap. They will not make a level 420 stronger than a level 30. They may look cooler or have more skill points. Big deal. And for the love of God and all that is good in life, DO NOT COMPARE IT TO WOW!!! WoW is just another MMO on the market. In fact, their setup is so typical and unoriginal that it is considered the standard for an MMO.

So what if GW is becoming more of one? I am more than positive that it will take all of the best parts of typical MMO's and all of the best parts of GW and make a game that will shake the market.

I say great job Arenanet. Keep up the great work, and I can't wait to see what you have in store for us.

So now I have thought about it and this is how it sounds to me

1. Eye of the North - our characters will not be able to win or will have to sacrifice themselves for the greater good at the end

2. Knowing our impending doom we will begin to stash items for future heros from our family tree to use to help them fight the evil

3. The Destroyer (aka GWEN) kills us all

4. We visit our long lost ancestors in a shrine/gravesite to pay respects to how great they were and look after the pets

Just haven't figured out when I have a kid to keep the family tree alive

What if there's a major graphics difference between GW1 + 2? What if character creation is completely different.
I mean, if you lose stats and items, then all that's left is character appearance - what if that simply can't be preserved?
If there is a big change in graphics or style, I can imagine GW1 characters looking really out of place in GW2.
I'd hate to 'transfer' a character across only to find they're really... not my character anymore.

I'm personally looking forward to a fresh start. I'll miss my characters - I've become very attached to them. But even if the servers are way emptier and I spend less time with them - they'll still be there
I'm already looking forward to playing with all new character creation!

Wow... I knew this would be coming someday... Right from my nightmares, World Of Guildcraft argh.
GWEN does sound promising but what will we do in 2 years with nothing planned? (As I know...)
I already feel the death of Guild Wars, la fin d'une grand épopée, end of an epic story.

On the other side, let's see what GW2 will have for us. I play GW because it is unique, it is different from all those other games around. I don't want GW to merge with the other MMORPG's, I want it to stay as it is, GW. With skill favored over time, great developpers, great community, well a great game. And also, I hope that our legacy from GW1 will be passed to GW2 as: "Hey! I played GW1 in that 'ol time and there! I got that*Title* title!" Stuff like that aknowledge the fact we were there, that we are good customers, good players, good community.

Don't forget us ANet,

But as the article says, GW 2 offers a whole new world, it's not even the same century, and goodness, I feel that it's ok to start fresh! Yes, I'll miss my characters. But I know that the ones I make in GW2 will be even better.

Mostly, I want to point out that these GW->GW2 changes are a long time away! The article mentions a beta in 2008, right? I vote we look to the distant future with positive anticipation, and to the near future with joy.

Again, just my two cents.
Gaile, I love you, you know I do.

BUt will you ever *not* dance around a matter? If you didn't want us all to spaz about this, why would you release details so early? As much as you guys hate to admit it, you're looking for all the feedback, positive and negative, before ANET gets itself in too deep in any direction.

And, since when has GW had to be like all the other games you mentioned? Last time I checked, it wasn't. Are you saying that ANET has taken a stance supporting the generalization of GW?

Lol. Character Transfer isn't "simple", btw.
Transfering our characters from one campaign to another wasn't all that hard, wasn't it.

You're freaking out and some of you threatening to quit now...what a bunch of hypersensitive drama queens!!!!
I am voicing my opinion. If you don't like people giving their thoughts on a magazine coverage that is, to me, very clear about what's down the road, then that's too bad. And furthermore, one year is nothing, it goes pretty fast.

When i saw the article i laughed. I laughed at:

1) Those who doubted the inquirer and laughed then at those who didnt doubt it.

2) World of Guildwars. (not that i didnt like what i see)

Those of you who feel disgusted/displeased/unhappy about GW2 can feel free to stay in GW1 (thats why L1 still exist even when L2 is a "better game") until it shuts down at least lawl.

The only questions now that remains to be confirmed would be mounts and the payment structure even though its been say over and over about the lack of subscription. You may want to save those post with our friendy community manager telling us theres no Subs ever and repost it again in 2009 when they change their minds. lol

Honestly, she makes a very valid point. I neither expected nor really hoped for a character transfer--most people don't seem able to really wrap their heads around the "new game, not new chapter" concept.

No to Farm Wars. Economy is going to be beaten as a dead horse, picked up, kicked and hanged. Money shouldn't matter since statistically over 70 or 80% of the population doesn't have 15 platinum.

They're trying to please two "worlds" of customers at once, and they're not doing so well. :/
The people that want high level cap shouldn't be playing GW. Period.

Guild Wars 1 may be the best game I ever played, Guild Wars 2 sounds like the worst game I never played.

At least I know why we haven't seen things like the Auction house, they are saving it for GW2.

Sorry ArenaNet, seems like you aren't seeing what the community asks for. 6v6 was supposedly requested by many players, yet nobody likes it. I hope you can see that there are many people who want a unique game, like Guild Wars 1.
if they are trying to compete with grindfest MMOs they have the wrong idea. "Village games" (small community based games that rely on ads or donations) and casual games (ala Yahoo/MSN and America's Army type) are more appealing to the masses.

GW originally was loosely based off the Magic the Gathering business model. The Magic the Gathering Franchise has been running since the mid 90's and is going strong.

What this changing from campaigns to expansions implies: the GW concept didn't attract right userbase, people want MMO clone version of GW, or people don't like computers and stick to CCGs because of their flexibility and ease of use.

Birthday soon and ill get my PC up if i need better for GW2...
Windows Me
320~mb ram
Radeon 8XXX
1 ghz
and gw1 runs on it, but not THAT good. if i need a pc with 2+ghz, 1giga ram and radeon 9XXX id start save money now <.<
Any computer program appeals to the LCD (least common denominator). For you to be running Windows Me isn't a good idea. A PC with 2Ghz and a gig of ram runs less than 1 grand if you build it.
