If any of the devs are still reading this thread, I have another idea that I came up with last night.
First, let me say that most of all I like the variety presented in the weekend events. I don't like every weekend idea. There were a few recently that were just "bleah, oh well I needed to clean the house anyways" weekends. However from reading the last few pages I see that even the ones I didn't like were loved by many folks and that's the most important thing, offering a variety of options so that everyone has an enjoyable event at least once per month.
My idea won't appeal to everyone. Some players will love it, some will think it's the worst idea ever and others will just clean the house that weekend.
I'd like to try and stir up some interest in AB Battles again. There are 3 types of players out there.
- Players that love AB Battles
- Players that hate AB Battles
- Players that have never tried them for 1 reason or another.
This weekend event should appeal to types 1 and 3. Type 2 will be on the forums griping about a wasted weekend. Like I said, you can't please everyone.
The scenario is this. (Storyline only, no player participation) Early Friday morning the Kurzicks stage an early morning raid into Luxon territory. They kill lots of Luxons and the Luxon elders are infuriated. They retaliate with a vengenance and slay many innocent Kurzicks. This sparks an all out war that can only be settled in blood and thus sets the stage for the weekend.
All guilds are hereby called upon to fight for their chosen faction. During the weekend you'll be expected to participate in Alliance battles and must donate your earned faction to your guild thru the faction transfer option. A running total of Kurzick and Luxon faction totals are displayed all weekend and the side that accumulates the most faction over the weekend is declared the winner. Everyone that contributed to the winning army receives a special prize in their inventory at the end of the event. Perhaps a new minipet or some other unique item.
- In order to win the prize, you must have contributed at least <X> faction to the winning team. (X=50,000?)
- Anyone who contributes at least <X> faction to their guild receives a smaller prize even if their side loses the war. (10 pints of beer perhaps? Something wanted by most players yet not something that is worth a ton of gold)
This should be a fun way to generate interest in AB battles as well as bring back some of the better PvP players to AB and you'll also be working on your Friends of the Luxons/Kurzicks title at the same time.

1. Access to FoW and UW*
2. Access to Factions missions*
3. Triple green drops
4. 4-leaf clover drops
5. Double dye drops
* I care most about free access weekends, but I can't say it is a good thing to have messed up access systems most of the time, and pretend you're doing us a big favor by removing these messed up systems and having things the way they should be for an odd weekend here and there.

Another idea. Explorer weekend, where over the course of a weekend, you take an explorer quest and monsters spawns are cut in half..

1. Special Events (Wintersday, Halloween, New Year's, etc.) including special event items (e.g. Candy Canes, Lunar Fortunes, etc.)
2. Special Item Drops (e.g. Four-Leaf Clovers, Ale, etc.)
3. Gamer Weekend (including special items obtainable from things like victory tokens)
4. Double Chance of Drops: Rare Chest Loot
5. Double Chance of Drops: Rare (gold) drops, Unique (green) drops
I really enjoyed the special limited-time quests like those during Wintersday. Would be cool to have more of those!

* Snowball arena
* Shamrock Ale and Four-Leaf Clover
* Rare Chest Loot
* Rare (gold) drops

* Rare Loot in Elite Missions
* Double Faction in Alliance Battles
ideas:
- half price on signet of capture
- more games ^^
- double LB points
- sth to make more people do missions with *real* people... rare/more drops in missions with human play
edit:
I loove TheRaven's idea with the AB weekend ^^ I fall into category 1, but my guildies are all tired of ab after gettin their titles and I have no one to play with now

Rare (gold) drops
Special drops (Shamrock Ale and Four-Leaf Clover)
Rare Chest Loot
Access to The Fissure of Woe and The Underworld
I would have included green drop weekends over chests, but I got very frustrated with the last couple of those. Chest drops make for an expensive weekend event, but I generally benefit from them.
Here's a couple of suggestions:
Increased Rare Material drops and salvage chances. I'm currently thinking about getting Vabbi armour for a couple of my characters, so that would be very useful.
Also, I agree with the comment above - use gold/green drop increases to encourage teamplay. Have drop increases that only kick in when a team with at least four human players are playing a mission. Maybe it could be a weekly thing, with each campaign getting a handful of highlighted "focus" missions (say 3, spread throughout the chapter) and each weekend the focus moves to the next set of missions in sequence. That would get everybody playing the same set of missions each weekend and probably help anyone who's stuck in some otherwise deserted or "herocentric" part of GW and struggling to find a PUG.

1 Increased drop keys (though I still almost never see them)
2 Increased drop scrolls
3 Increased drop greens (though I've yet to get a green drop on a green weekend!)
4 Increased drop golds
5 Double XP/Hero XP
The "access weekends" for the most part should be CONSTANT (well, not the mini games ones). Like it's been promised (at least for the access to the Factions elite missions).
My top choice, of course, would be GREATLY increased rare material salvaging and/or dropping.

3. Special drops are also fun because it's a free help for everyone.

My top 5:
On-semi-topic:
As I suggested a while back, I still like the idea of having a Game NPC in your Guild Hall, so alliance members + guild members can enjoy a versus game in the minigames (organised/random), besides the scrimmaging. ^^
And yes, make hero battles consecutive.

I'm just waiting for the day of quadruple fame weekend to give those who needs to pump up their hero titles so new people don't keep getting left out.
No monster spawns weekend for those who want cartographer title. Wishful thinking eh?
But seriously, best ones are double fame and double alliance battle factions for me.

Since you have asked our opinion i shall give you mine and it appears to be one of a kind.
All these special weekend used to be just that special.you have wintersday or canthan new years day stuff like that which happens few times a year are fine
butthese special drop or whatever weekends appear to me to be eyecandy stuff to keep bored kids happy so they play your game instead of wow. well i admit i have tried a couple of these special weekend stuff and i get squat but lag.
between the downloads to setup for the weekend or the updates while event going on or the fact so many ppl are in same area lag is horrible. i usually turn off gw and go watch tv during these crappy weekend junk.i say if ppl wanna go play wow well good riddence to bad rubbish. keep the game true to form for us die hard gw fans and keep it simple and playable. discontinue these weekend crap weekends and lets enjoy some good gaming on stable platform.

Idk, to be completely honest I don't think I'm really looking forward to any of the weekend events listed by Gaile. It's not that I don't want to see any of them return or anything, but unless something really origional comes out, I don't think anything will really snag my interest much.
The next big thing I'm looking forward to (besides the next expansion and GW2 of course) is the pet control and bow attack skill update that was talked about by Gaile a long time ago and has not yet come to pass.

1. Access to FoW, UW

I like glad points, though maybe giving double fame would lure me in HA as well. Faction I don't need, but may be nice for others.

My Top 5 of Events that have gone/would like from that list are.
1.Access to Elite Missions
2.Gamer Weekend
3.Snowball Arena
4.Double Xp
5.Keys
What events i would like to see are:
Perhaps everytime the Luxons or Kurzicks win in the other's final area for AB, they get a reward like the ones on HoH. It would be hard to win their as the home team would have such an advantage.
Another idea is to have a double blessings weekend, even allowing those with Max titles to have a go at them.
I apologise if i have repeated anyone's idea.

My favorites are always -access- and special items. Because they let me do things / have things that I normally can't have (or are difficult to get). Everything else is nice, but they are just small incentives to do one thing this weekend versus another (not do entirely different things).
Dougal Kronik
- Access to FoW/UW.
- Access to Urgoz/Deep.
- Double Key.
- Double XP from skill capping.
- Double Gold from chest.
Events to Add:
Have more drops of alcohol/sweets from mobs.
For each mission you successfully Master have an NPC that will challenge you to Rock/Paper/Scissors or something. If you win, 1,000 Lucky points, if you lose, 100 Unlucky Points. (This would be repeatable for each mission).

1# Free Access to Fow and UW
2# Double Fame
3# Double Gladiator
4# Double Faction in Alliance Battles
5# Gamer Weekend
I like the idea of free access to FoW and UW, as i have not been there much and want some free experience there before having to lay out gold on a thing i will probably suck at
Double anything in arena is nice, as it helps those difficult titles along
with regard to the gamer weekend i think getting to do everything is cool, variety is good, so you pick and choose what you want to do then
The main reason i like these is that it encourages me to enter into areas i dont play much in, im a PVE mainly, but enjoy gaining the titles and playing PVP sporadically, gaining more on the titles usually means i devote most of the day to playing there instead of my charcters progressing in PVE, i also see the benefit of gaining balth points here as it unlocks the skills and allows my heroes to use more variety.
Drop weekends however have been meaningless to me, as i never see much of an upturn in them when i play, as im not a farmer yet that may be the reason.
I think the rock paper scissors idea from Dougal is fantastic, certainly a good idea for increasing the elusive lucky/unlucky title, without spending a fortune on tickets

Rare Chest Loot
Special Item Drops (shamrock ales / four leaf clovers)
Rare (gold) drops
Those are my five selections, not in any order of importance.
I like the weekend events, however I don't get to play as much as I'd like to on the weekend. I was thinking that there could be mini events in the evening during the week. Might be difficult with timezones cause evening on the West Coast of North America is very early in the morning in Europe, but perhaps it could be region specific.

1. Double XP for Elite Skill Cap
2. Double Balthazar
3. Increased Rare (gold) Drop
4. Key Drop
5. Elite Mission/Area Access
How about a social events weekend -- say it's free to invite guests to your guild for special events/socializing. But you'd have to give us more than a day or two heads up for this so that we could plan the party

I personally think that each weekend should have a PvE and PvP component. Such as double fame and double green drops, that way neither the Pve'rs or Pvp'rs will complain about Anet playing favorites.
And here's my PvE and PvP list
PvE
1:Special drops. (preferably harder to get than just killing any enemy)
2:Gamer weekend (With new maps for rollerbeetle races).
3:2x Promotion points for Lightbringer and Sunspear.
4:2x Green drops.
5:2x Golds from chests drops.
PvP
1:2x Fame.
2:Improved drops from HoH chest.
3:2x faction From ABs.
4:2x faction from arenas.
5:2x glad points or half req for getting 1 point.

I've really enjoyed the following weekend events. I know, I know, you said five. But I cant just ignore FoW, and UW access.
Since I bought Factions shortly after the gamer weekend ended, I missed it. I really wanted to see the Factions end of the games; not just Roller Beetle Racing. But don't get me weong, Roller Beetle Racing was a lot fo fun; I just wished I could have had access to the other games.
A future idea for a event would include week Long events. Sometimes weekends just go too fast. Plus i'm sure some of us here have work, and school work to do over the weekend. So weeknights can sometimes allow some more time.
Well, there you have it. My opinions on the matter. And i'm stickin' to em!
