no one knows! GW2 doesnt exist yet. all we have to go off of is tentative statements and speculation.

all this speculation over GW2 is like asking if the flying car will run off leaded or unleaded gas...

Flying cars run off pig power. Silly person.

anyho... I shouldn't think you'd be able to transfer gold and crap over. Gaile appears to agree. Whatever.

Names will be reserved, consider GW2 a (thankfully) fresh start with more realistic MMORPG elements.

If GW 2 is a different game, then you shouldn't be able to transfer stuff to it from GW. It would put you at an advantage and A-Net is against advantages they are all for the balance of the game.

Different game, might have different materials and a different money system.

I don't get why people think it's the same game just because it is sporting the 'Guild Wars' name in it. GW2 will be a whole new game not just an add on passing for a stand alone.

may be off topic, but will armor transfer be possible? I know Inde mentioned that "equipment" would be transferable and used weapons as an example (I may be wrong on my info here)
I mean if you can transfer your char's weapons and declare them some sort of tie to ancestry, then why not armor? essentially its the same thing on a deeper level, samurai generally had their armors passed from father to son...

I highly doubt armor transfer will be possible. I get what you're saying about the family heirlooms and stuff, but armor is supposed to be customized for the character it was made for and not meant to be used by other chars.

My two cents on the money thing: I have never seen a game where money was transferable between the original and the sequel. Gaile used Diablo as an example: you could not transfer money and items between Diablo and Diablo II, and the temporal gap between those two was a matter of weeks/months. Here, GW2 is supposed to be taking place a hundred or so years in the future. I think we can reasonably rule out money being transferred across the games, even with the idea of lineages.

Weapons are customized too, unless you're stupid. Anet could get away with them being an ancestor of your GW1 character and therefore have the same genes so possibly same body type and other similarities making it possible to use customized stuff.

GW 2 is over 2 years off. Sit tight and just play GW while you can without worries.

Gaile did mention a Hall of Monuments (or something to that effect) that promotes the transfer of mini-pets (or at least /some/ advantage to players who purchase GWEN). If someone wants to wade into the cesspool that has become the "Here's what happens in GW2" thread from PC Gamer to find the quote, you're a better person than me...

What the magazine actually said was special weapons you have earned will be on display in the hall of monuments and you can take them out and use them. And the same for minis. It describes special quests in Eye of the North you complete to unlock things for the Hall of Monuments in GW2 (must link accounts). So it sounds like you can't just put anything in, you can unlock things that will be placed in for you by completing quests.

I think for kicks they should let you transfer ecto/ gold. Then your chars ancestor storage treasure chest will show a pile of gold and globs of ecto and your char will look at it like "I wonder what all of this stuff was used for" since now they have a different method of money and materials to use.
