I know it is far premature, but do you realize what the immenent release of GW2 means to me? The end of my beloved ranger,Aim Deathbane. He is my...he is what I love most about GW. I don't want him to change. I don't want to have to start him over again. I don't want to have to remake him for a new century. He is awesome now!

He is at the height of his power.Skill Hunter, lightbringer, swordsman, thumper, healer, prote ctor,trapper,trailblazer...slayer of man and demon...He is what GW is all about. He is greatness of skill personified. To remake him seems sacreligious.Blasphemous! He should have a shot at the next big gameworld, though I know he won't. Remaking him is not an option. His greatness will be left in history's back pocket, never to face the new breed. He will just be lost, though he is always mine, but lost to the new breed of loud mouths and good guy players...*sigh* I'm vey sad about that realization.

Does anyone else feel as I do? Voice it here for us. Let us bond on this level, and think of happier thoughts, fond memories, and times of greatness that our rangers have seen and lived through.

Nah. I love both of my rangers dearly, but I'll be ok when I move on. There's a wierd sort of fulfillment that can come with spending a lot time on something and getting rid of it forever. Who knows, maybe I was a buddhist monk in my past life. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Besides, just because the new GW starts anew doesn't mean you can't go back to the old GW from time to time.

Think about it. Someday you will get bored with the game after finishing every quest. After obtaining every title. After constantly winning in PvP. A fresh start will only make things more interesting.

With the lost of what we have worked hard on and cherish dearly, comes a new chance to rebuild. Rebuild to PERFECTION! Do everything you wish you did but never got to do. For example, Ranger - being my first character ever - i never got an experianced start. I never got to make those well thought out builds, get elites early, and you really get to think how you want your character to turn out. I want a character with survivor, and nothing would be better than to get it on my ranger...which was made well before the titles came out. When I was new, being on my ranger, I only used skills I already had...so the builds i used were all pretty much the same....and they all sucked.

What is new must come to an end, to create the new.

Well,in all honesty,I still love my ranger too much to not be sad about not having him progress forward. Someone call Gaile and request a time machine,or a tempral spell.

I need a time mage, ASAP! LOL.

But, honestly, though I am sad for Aim having to be left behind, he will most likely have a son...or in this case, a grandson. LOL,who would think that a 2 year old would have a grandson...LMAO. The best thing about the time before GW2 is that I will be able to finish all my characters off by its release. Farming has lost some of its appeal,as we will not be able to take gold with us(if I'm not mistaken. If I am,then plz tell me!), but the fact that I can max my Skill Hunter title, will at least bring some solace to my heartache.

Dramatic, yes, but I would have liked to have Aim without erasing him, come to the next game.

I'm in the same boat, but think about it this way. Guild Wars 1 has been out a little under 2 years. Guild Wars 2 comes out in another 2 years. You have got a long while to wait. At least double what your entire Guild Wars play has been thus far.

I see many things talking about the "imminent" release, that this means that we will not have time to enjoy, and all sorts of things. How many though GW would have a 4 year run when they started?

The only thing I agree with is that I no longer have a reason to hoard crafting materials in anticipation of having to purchase new armor for two new professions. Once GWEN is out no reason to hoard crafting items for anything other than armors I currently want. Other than that - 18-24 months is a LONG time in the gaming world and plenty of time to enjoy myself.

If you play for anything other than current enjoyment you will find a VERY long string of disappointment in gaming - 10 years from now (and more than likely 5, but I'm being quite generous there) no one will care your current achievements you have in *any* game you are currently playing even if you are now in a beta.

This might be the smartest, most profound thing I've read in these forums.
I remember the feeling well, when I quit D2: tons of lvl 99 chars all equiped with the best items posible, I took a long look at it and said "Well, thats it. Time to move on".
It still exists I think, If bnet didn't delete it. I consider it buried.

"Aragorn The Strider" as my warrior wouldn't hurt either

Lol,well guys, this has been fun. Hearing all the comments has been uplifting, yet, Aim is...my ranger's ranger. Sure,I can make a new ranger, and with my skills,he will be just as awesome,if not better by that time, but I still love Aim.

Letting go because you chose to is much different than being forced to. The thought of letting go of Aim just feels very forced atm, though it is a good ways off, even more so than my first warrior,Sirot. It is unavoidable and inevitable, but it isn't by choice. That's what makes it sad for me.

Getting on with my gaming life is fine, but I'd rather it be on my own terms. Anyway, thanks for the comments guys.

Most of us have probably spent more time with our GW characters than with any particular relative (excluding spouses).

But, I don't keep a Win95/98 computer around to play Dungeonkeeper or a NES to play the old console games. I remember saying goodbye to my Wizardry characters as each new game arrived and starting over.

This is the way of gaming. But mourning a character who still has over two years of life left seems a little premature. When I started playing, I had no idea the game would live that long, so every year seems like a bonus.

But you can put in new hilarity by having your old familiar character names with weird looking bodies.

If, as i hope i've understood correctly, pets can be brought across, i can keep my Miss Piggy, and just change the char she works with. Keep the name, but make him a midget with bat ears or whatever :P

Don't think of it as losing an old character, think of it as gaining a load of new ones

In another vain, I read that GW 2 will be set 300 years in the future which leads to speculation about the possibility of fire arms which in turn leads me to imagine games highly informed by historical Renaissance Europe and late medieval Japan. Rich inspiration indeed; nevertheless, in such circumstances, I would greatly miss the role archery has played in GW 1. All speculation, of course; no reason to start a thread entitled "Save us from Tom Clancy's Guild Wars 2."

"Rangers lead the way."

See that's along my line of thinking as well. I've imagined a sort of psuedo-future world kind of like something you'd see in a Final Fantasy game. Mixing classic role-playing elements with science fiction. I'm pretty sure that there will be a character that will closely resemble the Ranger of GW1, but the setting has opened up any number of possibilites for new classes. Regardless, I'm sure we'll still end up posting in the same sub-forum of GW2.

"Rangers lead the way." I honestly would be a bit dissapointed if guns came to GW in replacement of bows. This is part of the reason I never got into WoW and also why I am weary of dissapointment by Fable 2.

They will probably not replace bows, either they will add a new class(not that i want it) or they will be "elite bows". By the way, when will we get crossbows.

Back on topic, was I the only one that had a problem with everyonoe havign elites/greens in faction&Nightfall. I can't wait to get another slow ride like prophecy. Hope they won'T power-levle us!

tbh, the only thing that coud ever replace my ranger in GW2 would be a pirate class.
