I'm really going to miss my Mesmer when the time comes. but then again, I'm very very exited about many new oppourtunities that his decendant Mesmer will have^^. (I plan on marrying Erudine and having children... That's how my Mesmer's legacy will live out :P)

I intend to plod along, business as usuall. Helping a friend finish missions, exploring/revisiting places and actually stopping to look at all the cool scenery and small things that make the GW world so great.

2years is a looooong ways off. I am not worried in the least about them "shutting down" GW1 for many more years to come. I mean, look how old Diablo 2 is and there are still rabid fans playing that ancient game. Maybe the GW1 community will get smaller, but thats not necessarily a bad thing

Unless this "Hall of Monuments" thing is cleared up on EXACTLY what I'll be carrying forward to GW2 (i.e. titles, experience, quests, etc.)... I plan to play something else (but stay active in the forums) until GW2 comes out.

I've been playing WoW for the past 2 weeks.

How will I be preparing for GW2 : -

*Make Paragon + get all Paragon armours, shields and spears.
*Complete Nightfall, Factions and Prophecies on Paragon.
*Level 4th Ranger to 20 + get 15k Druids
*Level 2nd Mesmer to 20 + get FOW armour
*Complete Factions on all Prophecies professions
*UAX once I buy Nightfall
*Get armours for warrior once Nightfall is purchased.

Im hoping to do all of this by the beginning of the summer holidays so I guess there is tons left for me to do before GW 2 is released.

Like seriously people, they announced that a new game is in the works, and reassured everyone that GW1 is going to continue to be supported. You are not going to lose your shit, infact theres atleast 2-3 years before the terrible monster of GW2 even comes out. I, like others think that if the announcement of GW2 seriously turns your world upside down, you have serious, serious friggin issues.

Honestly I hate all the whiners who say "OMG I CAN'T KEEP MY STACKS OF ECTOS OMG!". It's a new game, nobody's forcing you to buy it, get over yourself. Allowing any item/gold transfer is a horrible idea and will screw over all of the new players by setting rediculously inflated prices on everything. Who's to say that ectos will even be a part of GW2?

That is a very very good point. GW seems like it has been out for ages already and it is only 1/2 through its "life time" before GW 2 could be released.

More semi serious point: GW1 can't really ever vanish, the perma pre folks are never going to allow themselves to be evicted from Ascalon Dist 1. (ok, it really wasn't that serious of a point)

What I would do were I Anet and felt like being mean is to allow everything to transfer over exactly as they do from GW except have none of the items do anything. You can have stacks and stacks of ecto - but Plasmic Goo is the new standard high value material and All the gold you want but gems are the new currency. Hey, you can even port your old character over and all your old skills/unlocks, however with no way to equip them have fun with that character slot!

I for one do not really care as long as the new game is fun. It doesn't sound like the new mechanics are going to be similar enough that bringing things over is even possible.

And yea, the thing about GW only being halfway through it's play time is what I have been thinking on every post I have seen saying the game is worthless now. It doesn't matter what game you play, if you are accumulating wealth and such for *long term* prestige you are going to live a disappointed life as four years is a pretty durn good run as a flagship product for any online game. The only thing that may (or even should) change is that I'm not going to hoard materials for another new character (or two) and armor - I'm going to go ahead and spend it on the characters I have (though I will wait until GWEN is released as they said new armors).

GW 2 is coming out (maybe) in 2 years. That's longer than you've been playing GW1... and you're already preparing to quit?

Perspective and reason usually wins out over panic and emotion. 2 years, and that's the low-end estimate. Knowing how release dates and guesses go, we're probably looking at 3+ years. As has been said, even the oldest veteran GW player hasn't played for 2 years yet.

I actually dont understand why even titles or names should carry from one game to another, much less items and gold, but ok.

2nd I just hope when they close GW servers, they realease a single player patch, with unlimited number of slots, ability to controll full heroes parties (and that heroes being able to grab stuff and use teleports) and the possibility to do both of the faction dependent elite missions, and ofc a big wherehouse to store all the crap u want.

So we would all get a proper Elder Scrolls, and be able to revisite those chars we spent so much time, and finaly get that ubber rare skin perfect item to drop or craft that end game armour. (Actually, it wouldnt be that bad. Who the hell need human henchies when AI henchies are so much smarter, albeit they cant use ENERGY DRAIN by themselves.)

And an off-topic question: will the the expansion bring additional slots? (Im guessing not, but they dont accept my card brand and i m not gona change it so I can buy a few slots online. You could easly launch some cd-key cards to get new slots or accept the ncsoft 15 day and 60 daygame cards to unlock the slots).

I am downloading the trial right now. I used to play a lot of HA and then once 6v6 was implemented it lost its luster and I quit until recently. Today I log on with a humurous name which many others laughed at as well and some tard reports me and I get a 72 hour suspension. Instead of the player saying "Would you mind changing your name I am extremely sensitive and would appreciate it if you would do so" he reports it. I honestly can't believe someone is that pathetic and vindictive because I beat him in a match. It was in no shape or form offensive and I can't believe how extreme Anet's actions were. Instead of a simple warning or message disallowing the name they suspend my account?

Another prime example how poorly run the company is.

P.S - Long ago I did have a name request change of "Touch My Pickle" which I thought was harmless as well. Sorry but I am not into the whole "Role Playing" escape reality thing and need a name like a character from Lord of the Rings etc.

a-net stated that even when GW2 is released they will still keep the Original Guild Wars servers up and running. As soon as GW 2 is released (which is an amazingly long way off as it is), its not as if Guild Wars servers will be shut down.

I think the realization is after Eyes of the North, no more campaigns.

GW still has life in it, even more if GW2 has delays.

What this news has done as get off my butt to take my favorite pve character and working on completing everything to get ready for what ever "xfer" system is in place for your GW2 characters.

It's so that elitism can occur in GW2 right from the start I suppose.

So I have a feeling of the character I spent a lot of time on xfer to the new game. I don't have perfect gold items, no Fow Armor, or piles of gold either.
