Gods in GW2? Beware, Spoilers

Well... After a bit of random thinking, i began to speculate, how would we even know that the very core of GW1 will exist in GW2? While it is expected the two will be related, i could easily see that the current gods of tyria would not exist in the future of GW2.

SPOILER:
The conclusion for this is simple, we've already seen Abbodon's imprisonment and eventual replacement with the God of Truth. Possibly the God of Truth, or Kormir-whatever floats your boat, will take a more active role in GW2 and we will see more of this sort of replacement. I could easily imagine a world where Menzies and Dhuum will gain much more power or overcome one or two of the current gods. Now, none of this can be assumed until GW:EN is out, i know. However the implications make me very giddy a huge new lore to review of the time which has passed between GW1 and GW2 and the major world-shaping event which have taken place and how the lack of a hero has caused pain.

Now, for the really far-out thinking...imagine a MONOTHIESTIC gw2. Doesn't sound too cool, i know, but thats also another plausibility. Perhaps the old gods were overthrown by Dhuum's and Menzies's combined effort and one of them turned on the other to take absolute control? I for one would love more involvment with godly affairs in gw and I hope they continue to implement that. In GW2 you will somewhere find a monument remembering the overthrow of abbadon and his servants and the rising of the God of Truth thanks to <imput char name>. A hundred years or two is a long time for things to happen in all of GW and we will have to catch up on that lore when the time comes XD

I think there something more sinister at work besides the gods at times. I would like to know what eventually happens to both Dhuum and Menzies, at least if they survived after Eye of the North. I want some more personal conflicts between good and evil, like we never experienced before. I hope Grubb (if he is still working on the project), starts to make something on a more complicated plot line then what has been added to GW before.

I believe the Gods wil play their role out in GW2. Abaddons defeat at the hands of men and the rise of a new God will obviously be told about in the lore. Menzies and Dhuum however...in my opinion they dont seem to have enough power to take on the Gods. And any attempts to take over the Gods power usually result in the heros foiling the plan.

It pretty much sounds like GW2 is the breaking of peace with humans begining to ponder if mankind is at its end. A struggle of races though perhaps the different races will have different Gods much like the Charr.

Exactly, now take the time between GW: EotN and GW2 that is assumingly anywhere from a hundred to a few hundred years difference... Now imagine your hero of choice that foiled all those plots being dead for those hundred years are so. Is that not a perfect window of opportunity for godlike chaos or am i just overspeculating? It'd be a nice tie-in with the lore and the whole hall of monuments character thing.

As for the other gods thing, yeah that would be nice too. However, we've already owned the Charrs' gods in the Ring of Fire and throughout Tyria in those random titan source quests. So... I'm not sure how that would work, but obviously with the talk of the Norns and Slyvari (or however you spell it) new gods would definitely make sense, and a possible strugge for dominance between the followers of those gods and the gods themselves.

Yes definately overspeculating here.

Our heroes of choice may have died but that wouldnt mean that other heroes would not have risen up to defend whatever they had to defend (considering that this is at least a hundred year timespan) . Consider the fact that out 'heroes' where originally from miniscule origin anyway, ie. Student (Factions),army recruit (Nightfall) and even a regualr citizen of ascalon with a sparked interest in joining a military sect (Prophecies)

We've already had how many world shaping events, it makes my head hurt ie. Jade Wind, Searing, Destruction caused by abaddon, Cataclysm. It would be wise on A-net's part to let the world rest.

It has seemed thar many of the great events in the world happened in hundreds of years of each other (never the less in groups, but the jade wind, cataclysm, and searing where all of this was caused by Abaddon).
Details released by a-ent suggest that GW:EN has taken place a hundred (or several) years before Guild Wars 2. It would seem about due time for something to happen (between the common problems between nations).

New gods are plausible, but i really could'nt see the old gods getting 'killed off'.
Remember no gods-no (all ready exisiting) magic based professions (i.e mesmer, elementalist, necromancer, monk, dervish without magical capabilities). There COULD be a cahnge but i can't see it happening. Gods are forever, they can't not exist in the guild wars universe.

I dont think the Charr will be worshipping them for much longer, do the A Flickering Flame quest from Scorch Emberspire in the Gate of Secrets and the followup Dismember the Titans to find out why. Or just read the dialogue for those 2 quests on GuildWiki if you cant be bothered

The Charr have had the Titans to worship and the Dwarves, "The Great Dwarf". So it would seem possible that other races may worship other Gods/God-like beings.

No it is never said "The Great Dwarf" is Balthazar. It is only speculated by people simply because of details like Balthazar believed in strength even going as far as "he has a beard". Balthazar lived in Arah while "The Great Dwarf" is believed to have lived on the Anvil. The Great Dwarf could be a completely different thing. Hell exactly one month ago i was told over and over Abaddon was "The Great Destroyer"

But thats not the point. I was just using it as an example. The other races could worship other deities.

...or the gods as we know them in GW1 might not be gods anymore in GW2. I can name one RPG series where the only god in the first game is "demoted" to being simply a historical figure in the second game who happened to be one of the characters responsible for reshaping the history of a whole continent after inadvertantly causing an accident of cataclysmic proportions.

It's early days yet, and anything could happen. I, for one, will be preparing myself for some major surprises.

well one thing i can tell you all, Kormir being the new god, and there being 150 new skills across the GW:EN XP, Avatar of Komir will most definitely be the new elite for dervishes!!! hmmmm wonder what the description will be! lol

I also think the gods will exist as they do now in GW1. It will be interesting in GW: EotN to see what gods the different races bow down to. The Asura for example; really into engineering and probably sciences; who would they worship, if at all?

Different races will surely have different deities, and i'll have to agree with Pwny Ride tht the world shud be at peace now.....

My idea is something like this......most have forgotten the ways of the old gods (or not?), only few people truly worships them or study about them, like greek, norse gods in reality...new deities starts to emerge....

Ascalon has been restored. The people tht fled ascalon probably started a new and populated city in Kryta. Henge of denravi beomes more populated with appearance of Sylvari. Cantha recovering from the plague....etc etc..

Alot can happen in 100 years, new characters'll be something like the 3rd or 4th generation descendants from our original GW characters.

And i still dont think Menziez and Dhuum are strong enuf to overthrow the 6 gods.

I can actually see the Gods being a good reason for a conflict. From the article it sounds like the appearence of more races has hinted towards conflicts between Humans and them. This could be not only conflicts of power but maybe conflicts over the Gods. Of course i am just speculating - for this to be true each race must have its own God.

Out of all the races i cant see the Asura having a god. They believe they were made to rule Tyria and that every other race is stupid. It could be possible they dont worship the Gods at all.

The Charr will probably end up a disillusioned godless race since the whole Titan thing. No one really knows who the Great Dwarf and Destroyer actually are. Quite possibly Balth and Menzies though?

Norn seem to have more affinity with Balth than the other gods.
Sylari with Melandru probably.
Asura... can't see them worshipping anything but themselves! Haha

Gods are in the hands of the mortals, afterall, it was us that knocked off Abaddon. And Abaddon was getting his powers back, corrupting the human realm. What if a group of ambitious mortals got the bright idea of usurping Balthazar? Could happen seeing as how gods such as Dhuum have been usurped.

As for Menzies, he's becoming a major player I think. Around Prophecies, he's just messing around waging war in FoW. By the time Nightfall rolls around he's paired up with Abaddon and Dhuum to wage war on the other 5 gods. I won't be surprised if he's still kicking around the time GW2 comes out, or does indeed turn out to be the Great Destroyer.

What GW2 really needs is for the gods to have some sort of Wizard of Oz type revelation...

... Like someone eventually comes across the "gods" for real and discovers they are just ancient snake-people hiding behind a curtain or something.

... Then everyone turns to Athiesm and the GW world becomes a better place. ^_^ ... Magic classes stop working because nobody believes in that superstitious nonsense any more... and the new classes become things like "Sceptic", "Attorney" and "Professional Wrestler".

And the whole game becomes about thwarting superstition, beating people up, stealing their money and making it all look totally legal.

Menzies and Dhuum have been backing Abaddon ever since he started to rally against the other gods in the war that created the Crystal Desert.

Anyway, the gods were not the first gods and they are aware that they themselves will be surpassed someday by mortals. That is why they performed themselves an Exodus and withdrew from the world. Maybe GW2 will shed some light into the true origins of the gods. Abaddon was not the first God of Secrets, which is said in the Apostate quest, nor would he be the last. Maybe he was one of the True Giants, who we always heard rumours about, since his size is formidable. But that also might just be one of his godly powers. The other gods are also referred to as his siblings, though I do not know the full extend of the meaning of that word in english, it could refer to the fact that the other gods are his brothers and sisters. At least it is a fact that Menzies and Balthazars are half-brothers.

I beleive that is why there a referred to originally as the 'Old' gods, you cant have 'old' without the 'new' since the terms are relative. Koromir being the 1st of perhaps the next gen of gods who will be invloved with the races of Tryia once again rather than just doing mediocre things here and there when they feel like it. ( i mean they congratulate us for stopping abaddon but why didnt they actually do something to stop him them selves after all there was 5 of them and 1 of him surely there could have overpowered him in one way or another especially since he was weakened from the imprisonment etc.)

Since when have you seen the "gods" of Tyria actually do ANYTHING besides manifest at shrines when a server has favour?

Perhaps it IS their idea of action to make the heroes do all the hard work.

Or maybe they heard of the Ninja Rule....
Since Abaddon effectively has them beaten under the Ninja Rule (since there is one of him and 5 of them, he HAS to win)... they figured they could take out Abaddon's minions by the same rule (a group of 8 people rampaging through an army makes perfect sense by the Ninja Rule)...

Remember what the Gods say at the end of Gates Of Madness. The Gods watch over the heros but it is not their world anymore, its the mortals world. So theres no need to step in at all. Mortals have proven themselves to many times.

Abaddon should have tried fighting without armies, and he would have won.

The Rule of Ninjas clearly dictates that winning likelyhood is directly proportional to how outnumbered you are.

Shiro, Lich and Varesh without their armies could easily have taken any group of 8 wandering morons individually.... but they made the stupid mistake of pitting armies against groups of 8 morons.... which meant the morons HAD to win.
