jjman,
actually i believe you are asking an impossible question.
you cannot ask that inhere. since the outcome is 100% sure
if the question is legit, anyone inhere will vote guildwars.
if you'd happen to post this question on a wow fansite, everyone
would vote world of warcraft.
to be honest, you just have to look for yourself.
do you want a fast paced pvp game, with a nice portion of pve in it.
do you like instanced gaming?
do you want to play free of charge?
then go for a guildwars copy
but if you rather play on a non instanced world, with mounts
pvp while playing pve (player killing),
and you don't mind to pay each month?
well go get your copy of world of warcaft.
you really have to decide for yourself what you want to play

Do you want to pay monthly to tediously grind for levels or not pay and play and have fun?

all the people here tend to be biased towards guildwars. (the big reason they are member here)
it is very hard for people to look at the 2 games without preference and point out the good and bad things without slipping in personal favor.
i am not a wow player, never even seen wow beeing played, most of my friends have guildwars. though i still can say there is more to wow than tedious grinding. thus stating wow = paying tedious grinding and guildwars = free joy. is not really nice right

World of Warcraft is a better game for playing. Guild Wars is a "better game" in the sense that it's not the buggiest, slopshodest software ever written.
Suggest waiting few months for Hellgate: London. Try Guild Wars 2 when it comes out.

Well, I tried WoW and after reaching level 26 or so I began to think that I should be killing Shiro or something by now. But I was still struggling with the pathetic animals in the wilderness and irrevelant "gather this, kill these" -quests. And paying all your savings just to change the attributes was the final thrust. I duly froze my account and fired up GW and farmed some greenies.
And made a level 20 necromancer in Nightfall, in a few days.
Sorry to say but there really isn't anything more to WoW than grinding. For everything. Armor, weapons, levels... The level cap is increased continously, better and better armors and weapons are coming out... They're just damn hard to get. But they get better infinitely. The more you grind the more powerful you are. You can even move faster than other players. You hit harder and are tougher to kill. There's no ending to this, it only gets more tedious.

Well, up until the GW2 announcement, I'd have said Guild Wars all the way. They're about to basically turn this game into WoW, though, so you may as well play WoW itself over what's about to become poor man's cheap rip-off.
Cheers.
Cheers.

To the OP you asked that question in Elite Guildwars Fansite, what kind of answer do you expect to get? Get 14 or 10 days trial wow or GW trilogy trial DVD (check GW offical site for info) and see for yourself. They are two very different game.

I play World of Warcraft because I have to (requirement for being a Blizzard GM).
I play Guild Wars because I want to.
I assure you, Guild Wars is by far the superior game for a large number of reasons (no monthly fee's, superior graphics, superior combat system, no pk, instanced gameplay, little/no grind, ect.)

First of all, posting a "should I play GW or WoW?" thread on a Gw website, im guessing you expected biased opinions on "GW is better"
But anyway...
You see, I've played both GW and now WoW. I have been playing gw for quite some time (I think Ive hit my 17th month now, I'll have to check sometime) And, while it was pretty fun in the beginning, it started to become a drag. The only reason I really played was to help my friends in my guild with PvE or pvp.
My brother that played WoW at the time (who now has a level 70 undead rogue) heard about this and insisted that I get WoW. After hearing all the things about "tedious gameplay and grinding" etc, I had my doubts on it. But after a while I finally decided to give it a shot.
And I can tell you this, its NOT all about tedious gameplay and constant griding. I dont really have much exp yet, since I'm only level 16, but since the whole deal about my class (warlock) is level up to 40-50 before you do any PvP or you'll get slammed (this is advice coming from my brother) I'm having a LOT more fun than I thought I would have.
(And fighting isnt all about pressing number keys in the same order constantly, anyone you hear this from either didnt play very long or played a very boring class to fit their gameplay style)
Ok, so for some people, maybe leveling up isnt their kinda fun, I can understand that. The fun thing about it to me, is setting a goal on what you want and working for it, while still having fun with friends on the game. WoW is a whole open world.
Maybe, for you, playing GW for a while first will better help you decide which game you like more...
But I would say (I'll probably be harassed and get a lot of crap for this) try out WoW. You can get a 10 day trial and then a month free, gives you a chance to see if you like it. I would suggest having friends of some sort on that game, makes the game a whole lot more fun.
It's all about what you like.

Wow! Did any of you actually read what he posted?
He's not looking for an opinion, he's looking for a trial key. Come on people. And to the OP, I'll look and see if I can find one of my old ones around, I can PM it to ya in this forum.
It'll be later tonight though, I have to leave for school here.

As long as GW2 is no-monthly-fee... then I would go with GW2.
I refuse to pay a monthly fee just to keep playing a game.

i would say go with WoW gw right now is a mess imo
testing either game out for a short amount of time will not give you an accurate view on what either game is really like. I would say just do some research on both games and see which seems to appeal more to your liking.

If you're into the massive PvE, take WoW
If you're more of the PvP type, wait for Fury.
I don't know why I'm even playing gw.

I'm going to vote for Runescape over both, that's how bad they are right now xD
Archangel Xavier
WoW:
+Lots of PVE content
+endless amount of weapons and armor
+Raids
+Lots of endgame areas
+Mounts
+Lots of people play it and there are lots of servers on which to play
-$15 Fee
-Leveling & farming can get repitative
-PVP is very simplified and not very popular
-Winning in PVP is not as prestigious as in Guild Wars
Guild Wars
+No Fee
+Strong PVP content, and winning is a big deal
+Very complex system of skills and classes which allow for complex and competitive build designing
+Guilds are more structured and offer much more comradery than in Wow
+Moderate PVE action and farming with a few good endgame type areas
-Fewer people are playing GW than Wow
-Fewer Unique (green) items than in WoW
-No races aside from Human
-No raids or parties above 12 players
-Level cap of 20
In both games you'll find:
*Player to player trading of items and all the mercantalism you could ever want
*Quests and storyline
*Interesting classes and character options
*Great community
I've been playing GW for a long time now and I've decided to play WoW for my item hunting and dungeon crawling fun while playing GW for the pvp aspect. It's difficult to juggle both; it''s much harder than going between PVE GW and PVE GW.

I doubt the OP will come back and read his thread, seeing that this was moved from riverside. He made a second thread there as well, but he was rude and that thread was close. Basically he wanted a free key to test drive GW.
Archangel Xavier
Wow totally lame. Yea I guess thats what he was really asking for is an access key. Whenever WoW and GW are in the Subject you can bet itll turn into a "which is better?" thread regardless of what the op actually was asking.
BSSuperman
LOL Talk about thread hijacking
All you need to do in here is say 'WoW' and watch the vultures start circling for the attack.
heh heh heh
GRR WoW
 GW!!
We've recently lost a guildie to WoW so we're calling him the Wh..e of Warcraft - As soon as the grind hits him he'll stop and come back to a real game.
COME ON LEGIONS OF GW ATTACK WOW !!
When oh when will people learn .... Close thread plz!
