When a quest is activated, the minimap acts like a compass guiding you to the next location. There are times when I have a specific destination in mind that is not quest-related, but distant enough that I have to keep checking my world map to find my way. I think it would be neat to have the option to select that location on the world map and have the minimap treat it as if it were a quest location.

Like a little marker. Say, that's not too bad.

Yay! Good idea!

I get distracted by that green arrow soooo mcuh when I have another destination. It'd be sweet to put a marker there, like when exploring or something.

/unsigned as pointless

Use your "U" map. If we can make it through 3 chapters without it, I really don't think it's needed.

Pointless? Mini pets are pointless. Titles, for the most part, are pointless. ANet likes adding "pointless" things, what's the difference here? Don't give that whole "they could spend time on more important things!" argument, you know they have more than one team working on "fixes" <_<

U map doesn't help much since there is no text on it, M map its annoying since it takes up the whole screen. We need a better way to manage our time

I like, I tend to hit "m" a lot while traveling because I spastic like that, and can't remember my way. I'd like to write on my world map and have it show up on the "u" map.

OMG this isn't WoW! Stop trying to make Guild Wars like WoW!

O, sorry, I am in control now...

Sounds like a neat idea...a user configurable map pointer. Maybe have it orange instead of green to differentiate from quests. Have it so you can plop a marker down on any map and that will be your homing beacon.

Hm... but there is no reason to add this. You get to everywhere by making quests (that you should do), primary quests and missions. And in Factions and Nightfall, you HAVE TO make those quests to get there...

This coudl be usefull to find a way in the Torment... but you are supposed to get lost in the Torment in you don't know it enough...

Hmm...never played WoW. Never even seen it, so I'm not in any way attempting to make the two alike. But I really like the idea of different colored pointers. That gives you the ability to plan multi-task outings. Of course it's doable without it, but it would make things much simpler. If it's going to be a different color, how about allowing multiple user-defined locations? Make the pointer larger for nearer location in current zone, and maybe a third color for markers in a different zone, and markers a fourth color if you marked an inaccessible area (like in the middle of the ocean). This way, if I know I want to hit several spots in a zone and a few in another, I can direct mysef by the size of the pointer and eliminate all the locations in one zone before heading to the next.

In response to Mithran, I'm not thinking of using this to get to unexplored areas but rather to places I have been before that are distant enough from a town or outpost that it would not show up on the mini-map or U-map. Say, for example, I find a collector somewhere that I know I will want to trade with. I mark him on my world map, go finish collecting the things, and if I have gone too far away from him or took a long time and didn't finish before logging off my minimap would have a pointer for me so I don't have to keep checking the world map. Another example, I run across a boss that has an elite I want to capture, but my secondary prof doesn't match. I mark the location, return to the nearest outpost, and the correct exit is already marked and when I enter the area I am directed to the boss the same way I would be directed to a quest location.
