Coming into the game thinking they can get a nice human party started, maybe get to know some people and get a good game going. Or maybe the enigmatic person who wants to get to know people in town, get a good discussion going and maybe get something started outside. Might even be people trying to interact with other people. These people aren't in too many friendlists at the moment, or even guilds, and they grow everyday in number for every new gamer that joins the game. These guys don't have every skill unlocked, or level 20 heroes across the board.
This is the in-game community. Yes, it's really there. They have it rough enough as it is. The scenario you're suggesting would just about completely destroy this sect of player and force them to either jump on the friend clique train (easier for some harder for most) or solo the game with heroes. What do you say to the person who doesn't play but one or two characters? How are they supposed to remain competitive with multiple heroes (15 now, 25 soon enough) of different classes? Play more characters? Farm hero points up to a maximum of 31-32 points (this only possible by maxing both sunspear and lightbringer titles ATM, one or both of which you can't do yet reasonably) to unlock 32ish of the games available skills (including the fact that you can't unlock elite skills with said points)? Go PVP some stuff open? Take henchies with inferior bars, while the other guy tromps the campaigns with his superior 7 hero team? Wait in town for another shmoe like themselves? The game can't even operate properly without the community you are suggesting (indirectly or otherwise) we eradicate. This is Guild Wars not AI Wars. |
Can you say that the game will be for the better if they took out henchies and heroes without drastically changing the game itself?
And it's funny that you complain how Heroes are destroying the human interaction aspect and community yet you just said that you dont have a buddy list of people that you can play with. And that's exactly why Heroes/henchies are needed in this game. With the way this game is designed, it's not always possible to get people!

don't get me wrong, I too basically play at night. VERY LIMITED numbers online when I play... And my alliance is spread all over the place, I got 2 guild in europe 1 in asia, 3 in east coast usa, 1 midwest, 1 in west coast, and 2 in Canada... and I am in Alaska... OUCH!!! hard as hell to get things going... especially for PvP or GvG... lol So yea like I said if I am basically alone Heroes are there, but if the town is packed full of people there is no need for heroes... But even then its hard as hell to get a group going because of the reason I gave above... Thats the problem...
I can see the heroes for people that do not own Nightfall... that makes since. But I would rather REPLACE a hero then have to add more... the shear inventory organization of that many NPCs is CRAZY!!!

What is being suggested would narrow the in game community into just about nothing. It would destroy it. Maybe you'll find company with the WTB/WTS spammers? That's pretty much all that would prevail maybe, and only in some of the key towns. An online game without a community isn't an online game. What is being suggested would kill the PVE game that most of you probably play if you're busy worrying about heroes. It isn't game breaking to have three heroes, yourself, henchies, and some PUGs. Or heroes, henchies, and yourself. Or even you, a buddy, and six heroes. What I'm wondering is why do you want to eliminate your buddy from that equation? Or rather people in general? It's balanced as it is. Some argue it's already autonomous enough without just going all out and eliminating the need for players altogether. Are you so selfish that you would deny the community for your ends?
The community still exists. There's a lot of people on and further more if you can't find enough people, with heroes you control three slots in your party and can set up whatever you need. You can use henchies, and if you don't want to interact with others in many instances you have that choice already. It is not imposed on you. The multiple classes of heroes coming in handy for specialized team set up's. 15/25 potential characters to fill any role your party needs is wonderful. Heroes are great, I use them all the time. The characters are unique in many ways, they have neat personalities and interesting backgrounds, some aren't even human (hope to see more of that with GWEN, lawl charr, no elves plz). There's a lot of variety to go around, we need more not less. That's something really great about this game and I want more of that. But I don't want it to the point of killing the games community. I'm almost certain Anet feels the same way if they're the folks I know.
This is getting pointless. This is off topic. No more of this please. This is about Guild Wars Eye of The North, fun hero wishlists, and speculation (hopefully reasonable :P) on said heroes in the future expansion. Go beg for single player GW elsewhere.

Well, here's to hoping that GW2 will solve all these problems of even NEEDING henchies or even NEEDING to have a team to do anything.
The persistant world will make sure that we'll get all the human interaction that we can stand but at the same time won't require that we bring along a team (NPC or people alike) to get anywhere.
Stop with the outright lies and putting words in people's mouths. From what I've read, people who prefer Heroes over PUGs do NOT strictly prefer them over playing with guildies and friends.
I DONT want to "eliminate my buddy" I'd prefer playing with my girlfriend and friends when I can. But they arent always on at the same time as I am. I like Heroes for the fact that they're always there when I need them. Yes, I prefer them over PUGS but it doesnt mean that I'm "being selfish that I'd deny the community" Where the heck did you get that crap from?
And before you talk about selfish, look at your responses. You seem willing to take away the options of others just to see people play the way YOU want. And once again you still havent disputed that it's the game design/bad community and not Heroes that killed off PUG'ing.
Instances were originally designed not only to lighten server load but also to keep people from griefing, looting and kill stealing that happens all the time in MMOs. But they have since then fixed all those problems and won't need instances anymore in GW2. Now stop complaining about lack of human interaction since you full well that the game was entirely instanced when you bought the game.

We alread have enough. So maybe the other races in the upcomming game they will have differ skills but I am just 15% sure^^.

HERO's from Eye of the North...
Id like to see several race options for HERO's.
Male Dwarf Warrior
Male Charr Monk
Female Sylvani Ranger
Female Norn Dervish
Male Asura Assassin
Female Human Mesmer (Gwen I hope)
Murssat Elementalist (with Spectral Agony)
A real Undead Skeleton Necromancer (OR just a Skull that floats around and gives you bad advice from time to time anyone remember Mort from Torment?)
Male Tengu Paragon
Female Centaur Ritualist

I don't really care as long as each of the ten professions and four new races is represented. I'd also like it if the Warrior, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist, Ritualist and Paragon are male and the Ranger, Assassin and Dervish are female. I'd also like to see a Dwarf and a Tengu. I'd also like to see a Djinn and a Wallow, but that's unlikely.
Also, Mort's awesome.

But, as is very commonly mistaken, Gwen's mother was not a Mesmer. Gwen's mother was a woman named Sarah, and she was a Monk in Ashford Village.

I was catching up on some side quests earlier tonight, and I happened to stop in at Gayla Hatchery. I think that there were 2 other people there, and it did not look like they were trying to get a group going. So, why would it be so terrible if I were able to hero this mission with a full hero group? It will be a lot worse to the community if people begin to get frustrated with the lack of human players and leave the game (than having heros to help) wont it?

People who don't want to play with other players will fill the 4 other slots with henchies anyway.

I liked what was mentioned about King Adelbern as a hero. Kind of goes with what I'd mentioned a couple of months back about an UW quest to go and retrieve Rurik and bring him back into the living, putting him in as a hero for you.
I'm not convinced that there'll be too many, if any, known/named heroes in this one, and that's a shame (I think all the heroes here will be for driving this story specifically). However, it was mentioned that there would additional lesser content in the interim between Eye of the North and GW2. How cool would it be to get a batch of top-level NPCs as heroes?
- King Adelbern
- King Jalis Ironhammer
- Duke Barradin
- Evennia
- Count Petrov zu Heltzer
- Elder Rhea
- Suun (we need the hat!)
- Dehjah (in elemental form)
- Shahai the Cunning
- The Apostate (Margonite!)
- Prince Ahmtur the Mighty
Since, by the end of Eye of the North, I think we'll be enough of well-to-do hero types to have some nobility on call.

One: I've been acknowledged by Gaile, I can die happy now.
two: for those wondering about the use of multiple heroes and their use I have one thought, anybody want to solo UW or FOW with a 4 ranger trap team?
three: Gender options would be cool. I like the idea of my female toons being able to go run around with an all girls team and sometimes the guys would like to have the whole "he-man women hater" club going too.
four: I keep focusing on old prophecies characters for this just because it's the closest continental landmass to the expansion. there are a couple of NPCs we don't see from presear in post that are assumed dead but not mentioned. Any of those could turn up.
five: I just had another idea for the Ritualist, what about the young boy that is outside post sear ascalon in the ghost quest the Avatar of Dwayna grants when you have favor? He'd make a perfect Rit.

I just saw the picture that everybody thinks is Gwen and I have to say - I think she has monk armor on. The skirt-and-pants combo is very monk-ish, the soft draping of the fabric, the tunic-like shirt with a camisole underneath....all very monk-like.
Mesmer armor is always very structured, very tailored, very polished. Even in Elona, where a lot of the diff. classes get kind of loose/casual armor, the mesmers are running around in formal attire.
We know that NPCs get special armor, and we know that Gwen liked mesmer armor but had healing spells...my guess is that she has a slightly tricked-up version of whatever the new monk armor is going to be.
(I have a sneaking suspicion that most of the people who thought her armor looked mesmerish were guys who looked at the picture, thought "Uh...green. Mesmer!" and congratulated themselves on their sartorial insight.)

Regarding the "50 pve only skills" and heroes, I have a sneaky suspicion that possibly some of those skills might be for a hero with an exclusive profession.
I think this because of the girl, the norn from the bear artwork, that anet is using to promote GWEN. When I first heard of 50 pve only skills I thought how many pve only skills can they make? I mean they could do 50 skills that would change how classes work in pve but not include them in pvp so as not to mess up the pvp dynamics, but after more thought doing something like this kind of goes against the whole pve connected to pvp vibe they like to push.
So the idea of a hero that maybe previews a new profession for GW2 by giving them so many pve only skills would not only be cool, but make sense.

Buff up some hero commands, add additional ones
call them Precautions under the H under heros name
3 slots which increase with levle to a maximum of 6
think of it like FF Xii's gambit system
so that you can say
interrupt ele> Firemagic/damage spells/Aoe
interrupt> enchants
attack > monks
and put like in order of need so they always consider one command more important then other like healing.
oh and the gwen thing
give her a monster skill called LoL
it pauses the game you see a scene where gwen does like a bunch of attacks and it does nothing to the enemy

As far as Gwen goes, well there is so much space around her that it would be entirely possible to make her into anything in the upcoming expansion. Personally, though, I do hope she is evil! It would make the game so much more interesting to have a twist like that.
