Officers Privaleges

Ok, recently my entire guild was kicked by an Officer promoting someone one then the someone kicking everyone out. That is like 60 members and is really crappy . I suggest that Officers can't promote other people to Officers so that this never happens.

um, anyone could have done that. The guild ldr could have kicked everyone. So are you saying there should be no officers?
eloc_jcg
No, I am the Guild Leader. Last night an Officer promoted a Member to Officer and the new Officer that was just promoted kicked everyone out of the guild. Also, the old Officer left the guild to because we are short an Officer now.

No,powers of leaders and officers shouldn't be removed or changed just because of some idiots.
It's your fault that you promoted the officer and its the officer's fault that he promoted the member.
Just don't give idiots powers they cant handle , problem fixed.

Yes, but I believed that this person was loyal. I only promote possible people if they have been in for over a month.

But my guild has only been around for a month. I took some initial people and made them all into Officers. Then, I promoted people when I needed more Officers when the 1 month period came.

1 month?! I've been in my guild now since July of last year, and in that time only one person has been promoted to be an officer. Wehave one officer and the leader, and around 30 active memebrs, and you know, it's alright. Only promote peopleto be an officer, firstly, if you need an extra one, and secondly, if they would be good doing the good, deserving it should be of no consequnce.

That happened to one guild in our alliance, [XR]. XR had promoted a well known officer to leader while the leader was on vacation, and the new leader kicked over half the guild, including the leader.
This also happened in my very first guild. I promoted a friend, (who I knew in real life) to officer. His friend got onto his account and kicked all of our members.
I don't know what they can do about this, maybe add a "Re-add" button to the leader's screen that would re-invite all members that were kicked within the last 24 hour period. (No fee of course)

It is true that it doesn't make much sense for officers to promote others to officer. I agree with this.

I instigated an activity clause in our alliance. Officer status is awarded by activity... all officers over 3 weeks inactive are demoted to members, and any members that remain consistently active for over a week become officers... Thats just fair...
The log is pretty clear if someone is kicked, so if it was not intended, you demote that officer, and anyone else responsable, and reinvite the wronged members that were kicked... Its not that big a deal... just keep track of your guild. It gets a little harder in large alliances.. But even there if all your guild leaders work together, its not too hard to keep track of things...
I highly recommend making a web page (maybe a free forums or something) if you have a full 10 guild alliance to allow for communication between officers and leaders. It really really helps...
Common Setup... http://invisionfree.com/
Make a forums for the entire Alliance.. all members of the alliance joins the forums.
Subsections dedicated to each of 10 guilds.
and 1 section (password protected) for all 10 guild leaders...
This is the easiest way to keep things in order in a large alliance. If you only have a few dozen players in each its not so bad... but when your dealing with a few hundred over all... its worth the time to maintain a web page...

I see no reason to change to change here. If anything you should learn better judgment as a guild leader.
What there should be though is the option to invite back all members who have been kicked in the passed month or so. Something like that.

Don't promote for people unless you trust them. If you promote someone you trust and they do something like that... time to evaluate what it is you see in people like that, that makes you trust them.
Judgement calls instead of promoting after x days, or promoting for x behavior, or kicking for x days of activity always seemed rather impartial to me. I prefer to do everything case by case. Granted my guild is set up a little differently where I have time to go case by case.

ive been running our guild 2 yrs now, they have done many changes to guild and things guildies can do... i love that officers can no longer kick other officers, that is the first step, but i am not sure about officers promoting others to officers
I am very active in game, and personally am on enough to promote officers when they deserve it...
But more important, is dont promote people to officer who would promote others and such a thing would occure... personally i would hold the person who promoted the kicker responsible, guessing that the kicker left already....
also, very important is this, after month 2 of guild, i always take screen shots weekly of whole guild, simple facts, lots of ppl, some ppl get accounts hacked *not trying to change this subject*, never know what tomorrow will bring....
If my guild would happen to be destroyed, my account gets hacked or such even, i would beable to rebuild the entire guild with maybe 1 or 2 brand new members missing... but the backbone would still be there...
point of story... dont promote ppl who will cause such things, and screen shot ur guild...

I think everyone's picking on him too much... I mean, stuff happens even when we know we can trust others .
Its not a bad idea IMO to allow the guild leader to designate whether officers can promote others to officers upon foundation of the guild.
In real life, if you're a manager in a company do you hire other managers? Or does your boss? This disparity should suggest the possibility of abuse, as well as the fact that this is a cloned thread.
One problem, one solution. Allow guild leaders more control of promotion/demotion options when the guild is founded.

Your missing the point, we are not picking on him and unlike you, i think he gets the point of our posts.
Its a simple mistake someone did, nothing that can be done about it except learn.
Ill continue your example of real life, you as a manager interview someone, you either don't ask if the person has a criminal past or the person lies about it.
(who is in fact a scam artist , which you could have found out phoning the local police station cause the idiot used his real name)
So in case one its your fault because you didn't ask and in the second its also your mistake cause you trusted the person.
The op didn't suggest that guild leaders should have the power to decide what powers a certain officer gets ( can only invite new players, can only kick, can only promote etc) he suggested that they could not promote at all.
BTW , the suggestion about giving officers certain powers but not others have been suggested and also is liked by most.

Why do so many guilds have so many officers?
The guild I'm in is actually a pair of guilds (over 160 people), and we have a total of 6 officers (including the leaders).... I'm not one of the officers, and I've never once stopped and said "hey! we sure could use another officer!". Don't recall anyone else complaining either....

Its because too many guilds give officer way too easy.
Most "noob" guilds will give officer to the first 5 people, then give officer just so people are happy and stay in the guild.
They don't give them out for the right reasons.
I think simply because there is nothing else to give, if we could give out custom ranks to people in guild it would be much easier, that way you can show someone is "special" to other (new) people without giving them powers that they may not need or may not be able to handle.

The easiest solution? Promote everyone to officer! Then everyone will feel special and no one will get kicked
Xenex Xclame
That would solve it....
Since nobody can kick each other lol...

Don't blame the system, blame your inability to manage your officers.
