Guild Problems are Pissing Me Off!@#$%^&*()
Polynikes of Sparta
hey, im a leader of a guild. here is my problem. no one will join. they wont join cuz of one of these two reasons:
1) not enough people
2) not enough faction
i try to AB for faction, but I alone cannot keep up with the reduction. i have 3 members who dont AB at all, so its all up to me. i cant get past 20k faction alone, especially cuz im not on 24/7. How can i get people to join? I tried recruiting in noob places, and people DO join, but they are of no use to the guild. can anyone help me out please? i want a big nice helpfull alliance-leading guild and I dont know how to achieve that... thanks.

The real problem unfortunately is that everyone wants to run a guild. There's too many of them. In all honesty your best bet is to merge with another guild or join an existing alliance. There are simply too many guilds and too many people that insist on running their own.

start of recruiting new players and friends.

Not everyone wants to farm AB for faction all day.
Advertise your guild as one that doesnt give a crap about faction.

Hi
What ElinoraNeSangre is right there are way too many players making new guilds then finding out no one wants to join.
I also run a guild and an alliance and I've been asking and getting many small guilds to merge into my guild and alliance guilds. With that said I still always get the odd player that tries to make there own guild but most of them seem to come back or join the alliance if I have room. So if you’re looking to join a bigger guild let me know. I'll give you all the info.
And that goes for other smaller guilds as well if you’re looking to join into a bigger guild let me know.

everyone and their brother wants to be the leader of a huge guild, and be the leader of a big alliance. but with everyone set on doing that, who is gonna fill that guild and alliance? its almost impossible to do that. most large guilds/alliances form from several smaller guilds merging into one larger guild. thats what our guild did. we had 15-ish good friends who wanted a larger, more active guild, but didnt want to separate. we all migrated to another smaller scale guild, making one moderate sized guild.

Not uncommon problems.....I run a guild which has about 30 members, and only 10 at the most are regular. We recruit regularly, but it's obvious that for every 10 or so new recruits, only a couple will be worth it (play regularly and contribute to guild matters). The others either stop playing, or they don't take part in guild stuff (and then leave, complaining that we don't do stuff). Either join an alliance with like-minded players, bite the bullet and join a bigger guild, or just accept that a guild populated by just a few genuine decent regular players can be more satisfying and manageable than a large guild full of inactive players.

Patience is one such quality. Your best bet, like others have said, is to join an alliance already in existence, and see what contributes to their success. If then you feel you can model your own guild/alliance along those lines, then by all means sally forth.
Introduce your guild in the "Introduce Your Guild" thread on this forum, and post in the thread looking for guilds to join alliances as well.

If u find those precious diamonds in AB that are not affiliated to a guild, or are in a dead one, they play well with u in a team, then give them an invitation. Don't fish and enforce, but give them an option, steady friends might well be willing to change guilds, for whatever reason. It comes to the point (I think) that they respects your attitude (being forgiving, not a prick, lenient at times where it need be, tho straight enough to maintain the guild ethos) and skill at play, and therefore its good to build a friends list, and play on a regular bases with them. I myself do not want to have a guild, too much hassle. But a structure like a guild is still very important as it gives an easy base to start any action.

I forgot to say, that those people who are willing to put in the hours AB'ing, FF'ing, or whatever, enough to control a town (I'm assuming that's your goal), don't want their initial efforts to potentially go to waste on a guild which may or may not take off.
These players are really hardworking and want their efforts to pay off, and they will join proven alliances if their personal goal is to be in a town-controlling alliance.

New Faction Farmer guilds never work unless they are made by big teams of avid faction farmers.
You have to advertise your guild's goals. PvE events (I assume this), PvP, or otherwise.
By the end you might just find it better to merge into some big guild. That takes us back to the argument of wanting to be leader though...

someone pointed out to ask yourself "what qualifies you to be a guild leader?" this is excellent advice.there are so many guilds. to many. join an existing guild.

wow thanks a lot guys. i do have an alliance (im the leader guild) with a long-time friend of mine who owns another guild. I will try to hunt down some guildless AB-ers or maybe jus recruit noobs.
again, how can i advertise any goals at all if i have no one in my guild to do them with me? I'll try the guild section, thanks a lot guys.

The guild i am currently with (the KaiZen Order), has been around since day one of Prophecies release. I joined them a month after their inception, and at one point left to pursue a more PvP focused guild.
In the end, i missed all my old friends and the community, and had returned about halfway through the Factions season. I was an officer then, and am am an officer now so i have some insight about recruitment. A well established and active guild takes time, patience and persistance. Do NOT expect to get a whole bunch of well involved guildies so soon.
A few words of my advice from my own experiences::
- Establish a base. Involve the GW friends you already have, get them into your guild and start trying to do guild activities as often as possible. This is your guild core members. The better that you involve your friends, the stronger the trust, friendship, and finally, the guild loyalty will settle in with them.
- Random recruitments are a NO NO! I do not mean that its a horrible idea, but since you mentioned that you wanted guildies to be involved, you want to try and recruit from experiences you can see them play in... Meaning as you do guild activities, leave one or two party slots for pugs (Pick Up Group, or just random invite). Limited space will show the pugs that your guild is active (or at least tries to be) and will most often then not, get their interest (EVEN if they are already in a guild).
- Leaving a few spots for pugs in guild activities will let you see how experienced that pug is, how well they interact with others in game (teamplay), and will help you determine whether or not they are guild material for you. If in the end they seem kewl, ask em if they are interested! Sure you will get lots of "No's" but as i said persistance, the more you take al the previous advice, the more chances you will get chances for recruitment...
- Keep your guild up-to-date with eachother, guild events, and about new recruits. Always let the guild know about a new guildy so that the guild can say "hello!". Making a new recruit feel welcome is the first and foremost step in establishing their loyalty as well as involvement.
- Be a peacemaker. Since we are all human, the more members your guild attains, human drama will be inevitable. Try to make peace between guildies as much as possible. Encouraging a guildies to get along despite raised differences is always good. And if it gets outta hand, take it into Private Messages. Arguments between guildies is not a good thing to see on guild chat, as the rest of the guild will get uneasy...
- As you attain more guildies, start to SLOWLY promote your "core" guild up to officer status. This responibility shouldn't come lightly to them. Make sure they know how you expect them to act and what role they should fill. Officers essentially should act like Junior Guild Leaders, meaning that their responsibilities SHOULD encompass all of what the guild leader had been doing, just short of major guild decisions (i.e. Alliances, Guild Hall purchases, etc). They should know to activily watch for recruits (preferrebly through teh above method), keep peace among guildies, organize guild activites, help out with Guild Hall NPCs, etc...
- Just don't despair. Despite people saying, "there are too many guilds, it is not worth making your own," if YOU really want to, then prepare to really put in the effort and keep on goin. There will be real downtimes and other real active and exciting times. KaiZen definitly experienced this at times where Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 were around the corner when people started getting bored of the current chapter, some would leave for more PvP focus or other reasons... But with new chapter inceptions, we would get waves of new guildies. And with utilizing the above tips, the latest wave in Nightfall has turned to be a REAL good crew of active, friendly folks for the guild.
IF you read all that, i commend you! Anyway, i hope some of these tips help even if they are already obvious to you. In the end, i hope it was encouraging for you to hear during your efforts in kickstarting your guild!
cheers!

It also takes away in a sense from the larger guilds trying to recruit. Take our guild, for example. Our guild is in the mid-50s for members. We lead a 4 guild alliance. Most of the time we're happy but we'd love to get new members. I've managed to find that many diamonds in the rough but it has taken about 1-1.5 years to do it. Our allies share the same goals as us and we'd love to find more. I didn't get this far by giving up, and neither should you. Sure you will lose people who think their destiny is to run a guild. Many fail, then suddenly it isnt such a good idea. Some will want to come back, still others won't. I think many people don't realize what sort of issue running a guild is. And my alliance isn't a problem either, because the guilds share a common focus. In a sense, the alliance in turn runs itself for this very reason.
One other thing you can do, and I realize this isn't as doable now as later because your guild is small - but when everyone is on, play together. Play as a guild group. People tend to join guilds that like to play together. That's how we recruited several of our members.
Someone mentioned recruiting new players - this has its negatives (new people tend to beg), but also its positives. I recruited my right hand officer in Kaineng Center when, ironically, I wasnt even out looking for members. I was buying/selling greens when out of nowhere a simple question was asked on local chat. This question was met by a lot of name-calling, extremely vague answers, and very little assistance. This person sounded fairly new, if not brand new. I wasn't doing anything that couldn't wait, so I sent him a pm and asked if he still needed help. He said yes, he wanted to make his way to Shing Jea Monastery (he is a Proph char). I sent him a party invite and personally escorted him there (after telling him where to go). I believe I did this as my monk too. He was very thankful when I got him there, and I told him I wish more people either would have answered his question or gave him a better answer. Not even 5 minutes later, he joined my guild. Now he is one of my officers, and my right-hand man.
When you do the littlest things for people, they tend to notice. It might help you recruit newer players and weed out those who are just there to mooch.

the best guild advertising I've seen is this:
get half a guild team together, doing things like uw/fow runs, tombs, alliance battles, hard missions, etc. Then invite the rest like a pug. If the guild guys have their s**t together, and make it fun and relatively easy for the pug ppl, mention you might have a spot or two open in your guild towards the end, but dont be pushy, just be coy enough.
