I might be commiting blasphemy here, but I have found a cure for all the rits who can't solo UW with VwK. here's the build (don't know how to make the little icon things:
Rt/Mo
Attributes:
Restoration Magic-16
Protection Prayers-11
Healing Prayers-4
Weapon Of Remedy [E]
Vengeful Weapon
Protective Spirit
Mending
Spirit Bond [not really needed, can be optional]
Balthazar's Spirit
Healing Breeze
Purge Conditions
Armor: Any AL, but make sure you get halcyon's for the extra energy
Runes: 5 of any type, just make sure you have a resto one in there
Weapon/offhand: The -50 cesta from the Cities of Ascalon quest, and either a HoD sword, totem axe, rajazan's fervor, or your own (i use a zealous fellblade of enchanting with +5e inscription)
Ok so here's the plan. This build IS soloable, but very slow. It would be reccomended to bring a SS/SV nec or an empathy mes designed for this duo (4got the mes build right now). Just make sure you or your teammate knows where the dying nightmares are, and you're set. Cast mending and Balth spirit on yourself. let the teammate aggro, and you stand in the way and immediatly cast PS. For extra safety you can cast HB, but you don't have to. While watching your energy, spam WoR and VW. WoR will remove any conditions that any enemy can place on you. I've experimented and found this build to be much safer than the other 55 classes, if you watch out for the nightmares.
P.S.- If a necro comes with you, ask him to bring blood ritual. It can speed up your energy recovery tenfold =D
EDIT: ok, after the flames of the community have singed my pride, I came back on this post to say after constant testing, it DOES work for me. I constantly try to find an alternate (and sometimes better) variation of builds using rits, and some don't work as well as others. Just put it out to see if anyone else enjoyed using it.
=D
*gasp* better than 55 MONK?
Fishmonger

Erm, ain't even vengeful weapon stronger than this? This is VERY, very, VERY slow.

OP has apparently never heard of [skill]Vengeful Was Khanhei[/skill]

OP stated that this was without VwK.
Even so... this isnt going to work.
Lets assume theres 4 grasps.
1) You will damage ONLY 1 of them per wep spell used... this is going to take forever.
2) They are going to interrupt you =)
To conclude:
Not enough damage. Too much healing. Even if you bring SS or w/e... this will be slow. The Mo/D 55hp is much better. Conditions? If you arent attacking... the only condition you would get on a grasp/aataxe/smite run would be daze.
Also, you mention ' a better solo build ', yet you state that its SLOW and its better to bring partner... thus not making it a solo build.
If you cant cap VwK, theres already other Rt solo builds, e.g. Rt/W Splinter.

Yeah.. slow. Also Purge Conditions is completely worthless in this build because not only will you be able to counter any degen with HB + Mending but Weapon of Remedy takes away a condition for every use.
Use the Rt/W if you're desperate for a fast solo build, while its not exactly dependable 100% of the time. It's much quicker.

You're aware that 55 monks dont solo UW, right?
btw, build sucks.
btw, build sucks.

When I was messing around in isle of nameless, I found that weapon of remedy couldn't even beat the aura of restoration on master of lightning.
However, it *did* beat the mending on Master of Hammers....
Conclusion: even aura of restoration > mending.
