I heard a rumor that things like FoW armor will be carried over in the Hall Of Monuments. If this was true, among many things I'd like to see true, I would stop hating the idea of GW2. I really would like to see my investment in Guild Wars carry over, not die off like a horde of Mountain Trolls. :/

Specifics are still speculative at best. But it said every title unlocks a new minipet or armor skin and stuff.

The Kotaku article was pretty specific. As you access different Monuments, you unlock the ability to forward your armor, weapons, minipets and titles.

^WRONG

That's not what it says at all. Each monument unlocks NEW weapons and minis and such. It doesn't mention transferring anything.

Knightsaber is correct.

A lot of speculation and misinterpretation of the info Gaile has passed on to us specifically states that with the Hall of Monuments, you unlock weapons, armor, and mini pets for GW2.

it doesn't seem like fow armor is gonna carry over unfortunately. only unlocks granted by titles are mentioned. it doesn't say if the level of title matters, although that seems somewhat logical. otherwise players who earned a phoenix will have the same unlocks as a deer holder. that would be disgustingly unfair. i wish that something like divine aura would carry over but i seriously doubt it.

i wonder what weapon and armor unlocks mean. in gw, unlocks meant stuff for all ur pvp chars. are pve titles going to unlock things for individual chars and pvp titles going to unlock things for all chars? once something unlocks, is it a one time thing or are multiples allowed? if i, for some reason go back to gw and earn a new title even tho i've already started playing gw2, will that title still transfer?

to a certain extent i don't care so much about new weapons and armor, i care about the titles i've already earned. it seems unlikely that u'd be able to transfer titles, but besides fow armor, there isn't anything i've worked harder for.

What's all this rambling about 'investments'? It's not like you are expecting profit from it, do you? You've 'earned' nothing. It's all up to ANet to decide if stuff will be carried over. If they decide against it, all my titles and FoW-armor still are great achievements which I will cherish the rest of my gaming-life.

Doh sorry mesmerman but i'd yust like to say nothing is set in stone yet who knows Anet might allow people who achieved fow to pick a armour of theyre choice for there character

And now we have an official statement straight from the source
Quote:
And for those looking even further down the road at Guild Wars 2, Guild Wars: Eye of the North will provide a Hall of Monuments where players' accomplishments are memorialized and eventually inherited by their Guild Wars 2 characters, unlocking exclusive items and bonuses in Guild Wars 2.

A lot of people are assuming the Hall of Monuments will allow you to transfer items simply 'cause that's what they want to hear. The fact of the matter is none of the articles actually mention transferring anything beyond titles.

"Then, when Guild Wars 2 arrives, each of these monuments will correspond to special features your Guild Wars 2 characters can "inherit" from your own legendary past, giving you access to exclusive titles, companions (Heroes and pets), weapons, attire, and miniatures. These inherited items are unique: there is no other way within Guild Wars 2 to acquire them."

What do you call that? It's 'exclusive' in the sense that you can't get them in GW2. I read that as meaning stuff you have now can be inherited by GW2 characters.

Funny, I read that as getting special items for completing certain things in GW:EN, NOT being able to transfer your actual equipment over. It's no different then the pre-order items from Factions and Nightfall. A spiritbinder would be an "Exclusive" weapon as well, since you can't get it any other way in the game. Your interpretation of the article is just that, an interpretation. Until we get some hard facts on it, you are just speculating. (No, a press release article doesn't count as hard facts, since much will change between now and the final product)

Yeah, but it's not transferring your existing gear from GW1. It's unlocking things that you can't get any other way.

This'll be like an example

Protector of Tyria statue- unlocks Glint minipet
Canthan Grand Master Cartographer- unlocks special armor skin
treasure hunter- unlocks special weapons skin

They are special skins and items you can't get any other way, but it's not just transferring items you have from GW1.

Something from the interviews not said yet, when you create your GW2 character you "link" it to one of your GW1 character. Implying this is a one time shot unlock (at least with your gw2 character) with your new charater.

Not sure if you can link to your gw1 character for multiple gw2 characters and can you "improve" your gw1 unlocks and re-link to a gw2 character at another time.

Hmm, Onarik, it's starting to look pretty clear to me the transferable items will be unique items only available from GE:EN.

Crap, I was really hoping my mini-pets would transfer over. Oh, well, I'll enjoy them while they last!

EDIT: Excellent question about re-linking, Tempest. That would certainly give people a reason to continue to play the original Guild Wars.

So does that mean I can transfer my fame over? It took me awhile to get r6 t-t.

I believe Gaile made a remark about fame not transferring, but that was in the nightmare PC Gamer thread.....

My understanding of the articles was that the NAMES from GW1 would link over to GW2 if you had been to the Hall as well as unlocks for various titles you had earned as part of memorium for the descendants of the GW1 peeps

I hope fame doesn't transfer over. How the heck does running IWAY to rank 9 make you a better PvPer in a COMPLETELY NEW GAME? GW2 doesn't need elitism in PvP on the very first day it goes live.

Hopefully if there is such a system as fame in GW2, a.net will implement it better so it actually demonstates some sort of actual skill level (like a chess style ranking system used by the GvG ladder).

Logically though, fame would be one of the few titles that would make sense to carry over. Like: Look over there! There's the son of so-and-so! He's famous! His father was the uber leet warrior in Heroes Ascent. (or something like that)
