Heh, people make it sound as if the Surviver Title was actually difficult. I have a Legendary Survivor which I accquired by normal gameplay - no powerlevelling, running or farming involved - so I know it is not. Granted, it's a Paragon which as a ranged attacker makes things easier, but the basics are the same for Warriors:
Know the game. Do not go into any areas that you haven't been to before with a different character. Aggro carefully. Do not needlessly attack any bosses that you know can kill you with two hits (canthan elementalists anyone?).
Use the monster AI to you advantage, especially the mechanics by which attack priorities are established. Monsters will go first after whoever has the lowest health. So, always be a level or two higher than your party members / allies (as long as you're not 20; a Minion Master works wonders!). Use Survivor's armor, Vigor and Vitae runes, Fortitude Weapon upgrades etc. to boost you health. Don't use major or superiour runes that lower your health. With that, monsters will almost completely ignore you, as long as you're not the only one in range. You will still have to watch out for AoE effects, of course. Also note that monsters will always use Grenths Balance on whichever target has the
highest health. Not many mobs use that skill, know which ones that are.
Do
not, never, under no circumstances join PUGs. If you don't have a reliable guild/alliance/circle of friends, use heroes and henchmen. Use target calling to send in the henches to aggro for you so you're not the first one the monsters see.
The greatest danger to Survivors however, connection problems, is almost completely out of your hand. If you disconnect in the middle of the fight, you're out of luck (the reconnection feature actually made it harder for Survivors, because your char will be standing around some time, vulnerable). But still, a decent selection of henches / heroes can handle a lot on their own, they will only fail when coordination is required, which brings me back to the "no PUGs" argument...
As a final note, I do accnowledge that a mellee fighter trying to survive in Cantha, where he'll be suspect to a lot of exploding afflicted, is probably the hardest way to do this.
