How does Anet plan to keep us interested for 9 more months?
Silly Warrior
By the time Eye of the North is released, Nightfall would have been out for over a year, and those who had bought had surely of beaten it by then....
So whats going to be happening in the World of Guild Wars for the next 9 months?
Here's what I can recall:
- "Hard Mode"
- Sunspear and Lightbringer Max Titles
- Changes to Skill Hunter?
- And of course... "Hard Mode" (again)
- More events ( Don't forget Canthan!)
- More Tournaments for PvP, and refinements of already existing things.
-More double this or double that weekend events.
-And of course once again..."Hard Mode" (woohoo!)
Sounds like a really tight and interesting group of things, sure to keep us busy for almost a year! Well not really, but I'm curious to see what else they have in store, ESPECIALLY over the summer of 07.
I'm honestly wondering if we will see another Sorrows Furnace sort of update, or they expect that this new "Hard Mode" will occupy our brains for more than half a year.
Either way, it seems like a GIGANTIC hole in the middle of things. Perhaps a Mini-Expansion, buyable in the online store? Thats sounds cool.
I know I'll be doing lots of title related stuff, but I may take a break for a few months, until GW:EN comes out.
So, what are you going to do?
Will you quit? Take a break? Or continue playing throughout this gigantic hole in the saga?

Maybe they WANT you to get bored of GW, so that you'll be that much more eager to move on to GW2...

Sup silly,
Probably do everything. I probably will actually take a break and play FPS maybe for a little while. They need to find a new event that no1 has heard of. OR maybe have some more items dropped. I mean theres so much to do in GW, so if you say your bored, your wrong.
There does seem to be a hole in between, but what did they expect? I mean GW2 wont get released for a while.

I already quit. Mostly, because MMOs take up too much time and I got better things to do. Also, got very bored. But, I'll probably try GW2

Scary thought, won't happen...just something to /ponder about.

I've pretty much quit now except to get on to say hi sometimes. I'm really busy with lacrosse and then football for the next 6 months so I won't have much time anyways. I still like to check out the forums though and will definately get EotN. In the mean time I'm playing Gears of War and some 360 to sastisfy my gaming needs.

I expect that I will continue playing GW1 for an extremely long time. I looked forward to a continually expanding world but, now that that has ceased, it may not be as long as I had hoped. I imagine I'll continue to play until I have 27 characters who have all mastered the four chapters. Hopefully GW:EN will be enough to keep me excited and occupied once it comes out and, if I'm lucky enough to get on GW2beta, I expect I will continue to be overwhelmed by the GW phenomena. I don't expect that "Hard Mode" will be all it's hyped up to be, I rarely get to dedicate my weekends to GW so the double weekends are futile for me, and I'm not as concerned about titles that most are, but the main events, diversity of character creation (1st/2nd profession combinations) and play style options, and general infrastructure of the game might just be enough to keep me highly involved.
If, by the time GW2 comes out, I still haven't mastered GW1 with 27 characters, I expect I will continue to play GW1 (maybe just not as much as the former).
I like to imagine that the developers will, somehow, keep GW1 fresh and exciting for players like me for at least another two years.

Gonna grab some more titles. My current project is the sweet tooth title track.
I wish we would have week long events or even 2 week events. Weekends are always too busy for me.

yea some of those things don't sound extraodrinary, however, they each would provide much excitement at least for me even if it's only for a weekend in some cases. Truth is, alot of people just arent worried because they've been able to hold our attention for about the past 2 years and it wouldn't be difficult for them to do so for for a few more months. As for what I'll be striving for until GW:EN--> PVP titles.

Bryant Again
I've been playing Doom a lot recently.
I also want to reinstall Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate II. Not to mention I have a Draenei warrior to level...
But as far as Guild Wars goes, I'm takin' a break until Hard Mode. I just made it to Kind of a Big Deal, and now I'm tired. Toodles.

I'll never stop playing!! There's always more to do in Guild Wars, and if you say there isn't, you're lying (or not. but probably )

Yes Quid...but the beta for GW2 isn't going to be until Spring of 08, or around that time.
And the Beta for GW:EN won't take place until around, my guess...and of course... October 28, or like November 21 or something.
So even then, thats still like 7 months of waiting...the beta isn't going to be here for a long time!
The Great Al
maybe there will be something totally unexpected, like while on hard mode, the level cap is level 30...
probably not, but if they wanted us to stick around longer it'd be a good idea, IMO.

also, assuming GWEN comes out around the middle of december, oct28 would probably be a good date for the PvE pre-test, but the PvP test would probably be in maybe september, if we're lucky. The game HAS to be pretty far along and if they rushed it could probably get it out by summer. However I would assume they're taking their time to slightly bridge the gap between GW:EN and GW2

Here's what I would like the best:
-No more gimmick weekends
-No more titles
-No more changes to titles
-No more miniatures
-No more holiday events except the MAJOR ones
-More skill balancing
-Skill balances that try to make balance, not kill off powerful stuff and completely ignore underpowered stuff.
-Things that will actually give new game play (such as hard mode)
-Constant adjustment and addition of minor features that make the game a better game (increase character limit for party search window anybody?)

The current (business as well as content) design of Guild Wars lets you take breaks from the game whenever you want to, and come back later fresh. I don't think they intended the game to be something you'll have to play continuously for a long time. Indeed, they don't lose anything if you take breaks from time to time(No Monthly Fee), and you don't lose anything as well. You can get other stuff done in this time.
Other MMOs eat up all your time by using the grind->fun->grind->fun template. If you take out the grind, which GW has to a large degree(not counting titles), you have less to do, but what you do is fun. So use this 'downtime' to catch up on other things, and when GW:EN or GW2 comes out you'll be charged up and ready to go.

9 months....geez I have only 1 character thru nf so far, another is just 2 missions away...I have another 8 toons to get thru the game. I have 3 elonians that will go thru canthan and tyria....and my original 4 toons have not gotten masters/bonuses on all the missions yet, I still want to get 100% of all 3 places.....still have skills to buy, etc.... and if that aint enough, only my 4 originals have ever been to sf (and none have finished the fa quest)....there are the titan quests ( for my canthans and elonians)....doa, fow, uw....tons and tons of stuff to do, and what ONLY 9 months to do it in.....guess I will need to quit working so I can get done before the expansion comes out!
really if you have as many characters as you have slots and get them all thru all the missions with masters/bonuses, get all the skills and elites, do the titan quests, sf----and not run thru the game you would have plenty to do for the next 9 months! go back and do quests you missed, make new characters and get them thru all 3 chapters---have you made all the classes??? try getting a mesmer all the way thru 3 chapters??? or an assassin????.....help newbies, get all the greens, get ALL the elites in the game.....tons and tons of stuff to keep you occupied for at least 9 more months.

I hope we have a double alliance battle weekend because i'm finding it rather a drag and hard to fill up my luxon faction title track.

Well the "game plan" for me until GWEN is as follows:
1- Take Anet's advice and max out as many titles as possible, since I have lots of cash just lying around, might as well put them into good use.
2- Play HellGate: London when it arrives.
3- Play some Supreme Commander, and maybe the good ol'Starcraft
4- Play the FPS games I have and the ones I will buy.
5- Work on the Cube, Doom, and Unreal Engines (the "special" versions you get in the "black market") and try to make a game of some kind.
6- Study!!!

Kotetsu Rain
I'm probably going to go for MAX Lightbringer since I didn't max it out by afking when it was still possible. (Currently r4) Then I'll probably put more effort into school. (yeah right...)
P A L P H R A M O N D
Where did A-net advise us to max titles? Hinting at something?
The Legg
Whatever amount of time we have before GW:EN it will be cherished and used to the fullest. I have one of every character to work on, already got them all prot titles on all 3 campains and capped nearly every elite on all of em. Will have explorer titles to do, drunkard titles, sweet tooth titles, treasure hunter titles, wisdom titles, all have legendary survivor already so that dont matter. Then I might go back to ha for a few months get my rank 10 or 11, may put some faction farming work in, always got the glad and champ title tracks to work on.
And the OP says he can be bored? I honestly dont see how you can get bored with this game when there is SOOOOOO much to do. Now with extra incentives to max your titles so you can unlock bonuses when GW2 finally gets here. WOOT

Ok, in the yellow box in PCG issue where Anet staff is giving players advice individually on what to do in the remaining time until GW2, many of them advise getting the "maxed tittles" rank(title) as high as possible, maybe 15 maxed titles even, since it will play a major role when you shift over to GW2. I meant KOABD if you are wondering what "maxed titles" title is.
cthulhu reborn
Yea I sorta decided to get all protector titles for all my 12 characters....
So I have some work to do still. I dunno where this 9 months comes from cause it might be 6 months too.
In any case I want to be prepared for my hall of monuments

Well, if we assume GW:EN is out near christmas / Q4, it still leaves quite a bit of time to kill before it. (but if "Holiday season" means summer, they are somewhat better off.)
I don't think solely weekend events can keep people interested for that long. Hard mode can save a lot, depending on how it'll be implemented, but I doubt it alone will keep people playing. Hopefully they launch a Sorrow's Furnace - type of content update, especially if GW:EN is out nearer to christmas than to summer.

I'm not concerned about the time 'til GW:EN. There are plenty of things left to do for me, even without hard mode, weekend events, etc.
I'm more concerned about the time after I'm done with GWEN, 'til GW2 comes out. Oh well ... I guess I'll just play a different game to tide me over. After more than 2 years of GW it's about time I try something new.

I think there is still loads to do in GW, especially with the hall of monuments! Cant wait to get some survivor 3's
Ferret
Like Cosyfiep, i have 10 characters and loads to do (11 if you include my warrior in Pre-Searing). I may have finished Factions and Nightfall with most of them, but not a single maxed title on any!!!
I do hope the Hall of Monuments works for more than just maxed titles, that would suck a bit.
Anyways, i'll be spending the time getting those that have not done Factions to the end, looking for some elite skills and maybe working on some titles as well as getting on with real life. I may even bother to take a few more characters than my ranger through Prophecies (possibly do the final 2 missions with my mesmer), but i just dont know if i can stand the boring grind again.
I'll certainly be looking forward to GW:EN and will most likely playing that right up to GW2, though still not sure if i'll move across or just keep with GW1, i guess only time will tell.

So you actually think, Anet has told us everything we are going to get the next 9 months? That sounds like going downstairs to the christmastree and seeing all the presents and knowing whats inside.
No, Anet will have something up their sleeve, they always have and they always will. At the moment they announce 'new big things', they probably already worked on this and other things months before.
I think you also forgot to mention 2nd Birthday, Asura Minipet, Djinn Minipet, Rollerbeetle Transmogrifier Potions, Razah-free-for-all, 2nd Dragon Festival and ofcourse the two previews of GW:EN.
Ok, cant say for certain those last two things will come, but if you look at previous events, they always did this.
As above posters, I have 11 characters, 10 PvE of each kind and 1 PvP. I am very close to having them all Protector of Tyria Titles, next after that I am going to work on the other chapters.

9 months? what are you talking about? WHY 9 months? GW2 beta start AFTER July 1st 2008 (second half 2008, confirmed in main website) so, the game could be released "maybe" in April 28th 2009 (my speculation), that are more than TWO years from here. Even MORE time that GW already has live!
EDIT: and GW2 beta is not for everybody, just for me and Gaile! (.... just kidding )

I'm working on Titles right now.
oh, and, spending way too much time on Guildwarsguru, of course!

And of course they haven't told us everything, for all we know there will be tons of mini events, and at least 3 or 4 big ones before GW:EN comes out. But I'm hoping we get the chance to purchase some sort of Sorrows Furnace sort of upgrade. Perhaps a little Dungeon to show us what GW:EN will be like?
Either way.... these next 9 months will be full of surprises...hopefully.
