Botting has nothing to do with being a newb though, I don't really get why you're calling them newb's, but... (botting takes some skill to set up).. It definately is evil though for the rest of use 'cause these gold farmers go and sell the stuff on e-bay and distort the in-game market

Some turnips, some potatoes, the clever ones farm gold, I find carrots to be much more profitable.

Yeah, Granite has been packed lately. I saw about 10-12 last night and the night before. Annoying, especially since reporting them doesn't seem to do anything.

Reporting that there are bots in Granite Citadel is like saying "the sun came up this morning." Everyone already knows about it. A lot of them are up there to cap Shield of Judgement, since Mineral Springs is the only place in all of Guild Wars to cap that skill.

Mack

Edit - The video is funny stuff.

well just indulge me here...

Would you not agree that banning a farmer bot is rather pointless?
The gold farm bot is the little fish. The bottom of the chain.
the gold farmer bot is replaceable and dispensable.

Let the gold farmer bots run loose and trace them to the higher end of the gold buying chain, the accounts used to transfer money/items to the actual buyers and then shut down whole bot networks at a time, farmers, sellers, buyers and all.

Interesting thought. Course if I view this with a pure devil's advocate take: Banning the end level accounts means the "big fish" have to go out and buy another account from ANet to replace the small fish. So Anet has a nice revenue stream here - every week they ban (lets say) 100 bots and their sales increase by those same 100 accounts. Right?

<evil voice> It's in anet's best intrest to keep botters around and to keep banning the small fish since its good money.</evil voice>

Or, Remove the sign and nerf whatever they are farming outside.. that will keep them away from it lol. But yeah I've seen tons of those bots stopping by there lately.. It's just that Stone Summit group outside that they are farming I think.

sadly what there farming is useful to real farmers as well. Nerfing the sign is a good idea but

Yeah, they must fix the bots problem WITHOUT destroying all good farming spots. BTW, never farmed myself in that spot, I think another places are better. (I am not a "pro" farmer, just farm sometimes if I need something)

A good fix could be RANDOM rocks where the bots stuck! both in town and explorable! I hope a developer read this.

Nice video, amused me...

I never considered they were going to cap signet of judgement actually, just thought they were farming some crap there...wonder how they kill stuff with no other team members and no signet of judgement (yet)

I think clickable signs are useful sometimes, but not too much really. I still think add random terrain is the solution, because real people "knows" how to skip that obstacles, bots doesn't!

Stuck bots FTW! that's the solution! no one will even try to bot if the bot stuck and stuck and collect NO gold at all!

You could also move the location of the Merchant every few minutes or so, putting him on some kind of patrol so he moves all over the place in a random fashion.
There's all sorts of minor things you could do to stop it, fiddly maybe but given how MMO's reputations can depend on how badly they're exploited it'll be benefitial to anet in the long term

Having the merchant move around every few minutes would not help. First off, those of us that need to use it will have to keep clicking on him in order to buy and sell stuff because even if you have the merchant window open and you run to storage, you can't buy or sell. And 2nd especially in big towns like LA (hence that's why they call the area "Merchants Row" where the merchants and traders are located), the merchant would wander all over town and he could end up down by the docks so that's a stupid idea.

Just put in rocks to block them or make the sign bigger so they can't go around it

They're probably farming the Stone Summit that ambush when you get close enough to the rocks; they can probably deal with the Necromancers via a cover enchant since they only have Strip Enchantment for enchant removal.

well yeh its not practical for the bigger cities, I only meant the bots hangouts to try and hinder them. I dont really imagine a few rocks would help too much, bots are already programed to walk from the sign to the warp so they'd probably just be changed to walk around the rock. But I guess with anything, nothing is fullproof. If the gold sellers really wanted the easy money they'd find ways
