Sadly the lenght of the description is VERY limited... imo that is the reason why nobody uses it, as you cant make a decent description of the things you want to sell (i always want to be able to mention: name item + color + req + stats + price). Another problem is that you only can advert 1 item at the same time...

Everything to get rid of those insult springers:

Dirty Mouth Guy : WTS xxxxxx
Dirty Mouth Guy : WTS xxxxxx
You: Please use the trade channel
Dirty Mouth Guy : ---- u u ----ing ---- ---- and ---- in your ----.
Simply great... ¬¬...

This would also work at shutting up the pre-pubescent males telling us how they spent the night with somebody's mother.
I think the Trade channel is fine for trade. I don't see the need for special shops or auction houses because the same people who don't use the trade channel won't use them either. Spamming is the result of sheer disbelief that nobody wants to buy your item. Having a shop or auction house doesn't create a market any more than a trade channel does. When nobody buys at the auction house, the local channel in town will rapidly fill up for the same reason "Nobody watches Trade Channel/Auction house/shop."

True... I often get assaulted by players that, tired of nobody buying by spamming methos... go asking trades all over the places...
Most of the time, they are just things like "6-14 req4, 7%^50 sword"...
If at least they where unidentified gold weapons... I'd think about that... but that thing...
They are used to other games, where low end weapons have some use... but here you can get perfect damage weapons just in exchange for 2..5 monster trophies in collectors or just killing a few things in the higher level areas.

i think the best implement to actually fix it would be in towns, in the Local Channel, ppl cant say more then 1 block every 5 secs.... that will cut the spamming way way down, and in a town, how much talking do u really need? it takes most ppl more then 5 secs to type anything realy...
but, ensure that this cannot care into "outside" areas....
Once again, i am a spammer, at times, you must spam to get your item seen and such.... most ppl buy items on the whim, as in they r not looking for anything, or they r actually selling stuff and buy instead.... i still think letting the first 3 districts in lions, kcenter, kamaden be all selling/buying, and make the default dist where everyone lands dist 4 or such.... but, i do think the trading districts will just slowly shift upward as well....

I strongly urge all responsible players to submit a support request to PlayNC.com, with the following text:
Please warn, and then ban, people who post Trade spam in the local ("All") channel. They know that what they are doing is wrong, and they make the conversation channel unusable for its intended purpose. It's practically impossible to ask or answer questions about the game, or have any sort of conversation at all, due to the scumbag spammers. You are the only ones that can stop them. Please take action. If you ban a few of them, the spammers would get the message.I am not going to debate whether Trade spam in the All channel is okay or not, and I am not going to argue with spammers. It's not okay, and spammers are scum. Period.

I honestly don't even get trade "spamming" the best method I've found is one of increasing coverage by saying a trade once and switching districts... makes everyone happy , except now I have so much accumulated junk I gotta go ventari
As to the post above me.. anet won't do it. You see them ban bots? sometimes... but more often they just let huge mobs of bots take over farm areas when its obvious they're all bots.

When I want to buy something, I go to a big city and seek the seach party panel.
That's how I got a Shiro minipet for 30k.
So they have no excuse, the panel is better.

Please remember that this topic is about an idea on how to cut down local chat abuse/spam... it is not a topic about the best ways to sell your stuff or about "valid" reasons to spam (imo there is no valid reason), etc etc...
Please stay on topic

back in the day the spam filter was more strict. can't they re-implement it for local and trade chat?
Only do NOT put the filter in the whisper, guild, team, and alliance chats. many guildies were pissed off when they couldn't talk right in guild/team chat.

Too good of an idea for it to get lost.

Here is the thing that kills me.
When I am playing during a peak time and I am in a city and I want to ask a question about something -- anything, it doesn't matter what -- and the damned trade spammers are flooding the All channel with their damned trade spam, I'll ask, as I have seen one or two other people do, "Please take the Trade chat to the Trade channel. That's why it's there."
I will get a few nasty replies from the spammers (which is to be expected, because spammers are subhuman filth). But what kills me is the people who agree, but don't say anything on the channel. Instead, they'll send me a whisper to the effect of, "I agree, but you'll never stop them."
Well, if you'd SPEAK UP -- if ALL of us spoke up -- and made it clear to the damned spammers AND to ArenaNet AND to PlayNC that this behavior will not be tolerated, maybe it *would* make more of a difference. If nothing else, if we told them over and over to take the damned buying and selling to the Trade channel, where it belongs, it might disrupt their "business" and they might get the message. Instead, it seems almost all of the good players just turn off the All channel and hand over an essential part of the game to the damned spammers.
And no, there is nothing wrong with "spamming" the damned spammers, although that's the first thing the idiot spammers will whine about when they are on the receiving end of it. Self-defense is always justified.
As an aside, I think it would be a good idea to have a true Local channel: one in which you can hear what people say who are within a few meters of you. Within your aggro circle, for example. If we had that, I'd be pretty happy to get rid of the All channel entirely. Shouting across an entire zone is almost never justified, anyway.
