Would you pay real money for a Superior Rune of Holding?

If there was one...

If it doubled the storage of one of your backpacks, would you pay real money for it and how much?

Just curious.

I'd probably pay 5€ if it doubled all my characters backpack storage. Or just my bank storage. But not more.

For as much as I would love to get a real storage upgrade, if I refuse to buy gold off ebay, buy extra character slots just to mule, then I'd defintely not do this. $5 isn't that bad, but still.

No. I'd pay $10 to double my Xunlai Storage, though. Definately.

The minute A-net starts charging for PvE items, I'm out.

In fact, I'd say that the whole concept of paying for your in-game stuff is just about as disgusting as paying monthly fees.

Guild Wars should be determined by SKILL, not by who has the biggest credit card.

More storage for players equals more server load which, in turn, equals higher maitenance cost. It's only fair to pay for a storage capacity increase.

While I agree with charging money for in-game items is disgusting, I'm realistic about "their" side of the story. Free stuff is always nice to have, but the devs have to eat too. And, let's be frank, an option to upgrade one's storage would be nice and in no way whatsoever un-balancing. It's not like I could actually use 20 Fiery Dragon Swords to chop you to pieces and set you on fire.

P.S. Please note that the game hasn't been determined by skill in months.

From a practical point of view, no I would not spend extra money to expand my inventory space. I didn't buy any extra character slots, so why would I buy extra inventory?

Three million actually. Not to mention the amount of data for each item stored in those slots. I think it would be "only some kbytes" if the slot was empty. Even then they would have to add massive amounts of data storage and integrate it with the current non-stop expanding item count. It's one helluva task.

I can't see how unbalancing it would be to be able to carry a few more items than your buddy.

I did buy the bonus weapons for 5€. Yes I did. And I duplicated them for my heroes so I could create a barrage team for EVERY one of my characters without spending ridiculous amounts of times farming perfect green bows... And by duplicating I'm not talking about duping, but equipping a hero with a bonus item, and typing /bonus again to create a new one.

You can pay about 10 $ and buy additional storage slots already... Go to the Online Store of GW and buy a new character slot and give him all backpack-upgrades.

I am sure, that the storage data for a single item is no more than 100 bytes - lets say 4 bytes for the sort of item (sword, hammer, etc.), 4 for prefix, 4 for suffix, 4 for inscription, another 4 for color = 20 + another 80 for things like the place it is held and other things of which I don't know.

Now expand storage to 25 more items, which is 100*25=2.5 kB. There are 3 million GW accounts, so 2.5 kB*3M = 7.5 giga bytes. What are your hard drives? Even if we multiply it by 20 (so single item takes 2kB space) it gives you 150 GB.

I don't think that the storage problem is really a problem with server space. More likely ANet may have some problems with implementation, or maybe because grass is green and sky is blue...

They should give us, for those who have the 3 campaigns, the 4 char slots they 'took' from us and which they later offered the facility to purchase more chars.

Once they give us this then lets talk about purchasing storage for real money

Nononono real money but i'd pay up to 10k ingame gold per-slot of additional storage. Nothing to do with gold anyway

lol? They haven't 'taken' any slots from us. You get two slots for having any of the games and then an additional two slots for each game you have.

The extra character slot is the additional storage, everyone has mules now, altho i would like more inventory space so i could keep all my weapons on my ele without needing to swap to mules for different builds.

Me three. But they're £6 each! Expensive for 48 slots which is 12.5p per slot.

[Complicated Math]
Decide to get all three games on one account:
First game you purchase: Four char slots Total, one xunlai storage
Second game you purchase and put on your account: Six char slots Total, one xunlai storage
Third game you purchase and put on your account: Eight char slots total, one xunlai storage

Decide to get all three games on different accounts:
First game you purchase: Four char slots total, one xunlai storage
Second game you purchase and put on a separate account: Eight char slots Total, Two xunlai storages
Third game you purchase and put on a separate account: Twelve char slots total, three xunlai storages
[/Complicated Math]

So according to A-net
1x3=8-x while 1+1+1=12-x

I wouldnt pay real money for ingame things, that's the main reason I started playing Guild Wars instead of World of Warcraft in the first place...
but I do think that Anet needs to give us enough character slots to have 1 of each profession and thus giving back the 2 slots they "stole" in prophecies and havent given back in the expansions...

No, no and no. If you want to "buy" more storage, simply buy another character slot.

Any upgrades like this should be available to all via the game mechanics.

No way.

I don't want games take it a general practice to make too small inventories in the beginning, then sell more inventory room. That's a dirty scheme.

I don't trust the online game shop nor Arenanet personal data protection policy, so I won't buy anything from their shop. Before buing anything, I urge you to read the User Agreement and how your personal data is handled and stored.

Buy the game for stand alone = 4 slots

Buy the game and add the key to yu account = 2 slots

Multiply 2 games to add on to your acount = 4 slots

2 GAMES = 8 slots

8-4 = 4 slots which ANET took from us BEFOREthey introduced the facility of buying extra slots.

This is fact and I am not inventing this.

They (Anet) are already doing this. It's the GOTY upgrade. For $4.99 USD you can buy exclusive in-game items .

Personally I don't mind the concept of GW store upgrades. As long as they don't make the items "must have" necessary to be competitive. The money goes to the developers which is a good thing. I purchased the GOTY upgrade and am enjoying the use of max dmg weapons in pre .

Hmm...

So that's why I can get bonus items now. GOTY upgrade...

funny thing is, I don't remember ever purchasing it. I guess it came included when I bought Prophecies through the online store. However, if they charged me $5 extra for it, I will be extremely pissed off. Yes, I got Prophecies for $20 cheaper than I expected, but if GW made that purchase decision for me, how am I to know whether or no GW will decide that I need a few character slots at some point, or a PvP unlock kit?

guess I'll find out when my debit card statement comes in.

Edit: Nevermind, just checked the receipt they had emailed me. Guild Wars Prophecies: GotY Edition, $29.99

You know, if you have absolutly nothing to do with that money Yawgmoth, you could donate some to the "United Charity to get Kartok More Stuff Foundation" (UCKMSF). For every 10k you donate, we will give you a random item. Could be a superior vigor, could be some weapon from pre... who knows?

In all seriousness, I don't even like the idea of having to buy characters to use as storage. If Anet wants us to have more storage, it would be nice if they could do something WITHOUT charging us. Yeah, they have to eat and I can see that, but I don't like them nickeling and diming us for some cool features (even if they aren't game breaking, must haves). Maybe Anet could have a new weekend: The Double Storage Weekend where every form of storage is doubled! Backpacks that hold 40 slots, belt pouches that hold 10 and bags that hold 20, and... storage that holds... however many is double what it holds now (I don't have that number off the top of my head). Now that would be a weekend.

I think I was the one who brought this up in another thread, the idea of buying storage - it was mostly a rhetorical...proposition...in response to all the people who said that Anet wouldn't add more storage because they need the money coming in from people who buy extra character slots for mules.

I guess I figure: if Anet really wants or needs the money from people who buy mules, wouldn't they streamline the process and just sell storage? Because if they have really decided that mule-makers are a viable source of extra revenue, such that they really won't add more storage for free, the next step would be to cater to them in some way.

And since so far there hasn't been any storage-for-real-cash, some part of the argument falls apart: Anet probably isn't holding back on storage because they like having people need mules. Or, most extra character slots are not purchased to be mules.

I'd probably buy storage. Generally, when $10 will make my life easier consistently over a period of time I figure it's better than going out to a movie and pay the $10.

Only if it had some extra game content.

Buy the next expansion, get a rune of Superior Holding special item, and a new explorable zone(s) somewhere. Have the runes available only from a collector in the new zone.

Then I could fool myself that I was buying the expansion for real money instead of the storage rune.
