Lately, like everybody, I have been interested about the news for Guild Wars: Eye of the North, and Guild Wars 2. Frankly, for the first week or so, i thought these were the same thing. After reading an article i now know that they are completely differant. Several question popped into my head when reading these articles. Mainly the question is, is GW2 going to be a fresh start? By this I mean, will there be no connections with Guild Wars Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall and the upcoming Eye of the North? From what I have read apparently there is going to be some "Hall of the Monuments"
I know there has been alot of discussion about these subjects, but I would just like a little more. These articles do not seem to help.

p.s. I am getting the PC Gamer - May edition - with the free Ashura, will this clear up anything about this subject?

Arr, just pop into the other thread about "not loathing GW2" or something like that- there's some bantering about the hall of monuments going on there. I really don't want to see it spread to another thread...

From what I've read about things so far, it looks like GW:EN will start to pave the way for GW2... Explain a few things beforehand so that we don't have to spend the first coupla weeks of playing GW2 wondering where new races and bits of Tyrian lore have come from, and finish typing up any loose ends from GW1 so that any unfinished business in the GW1 timeframe is dealt with, allowing GW2 to start with a clean slate and not have to keep referring back to GW1 for everything.

It makes sense to me. It'll mean that new players who start with GW2 won't have to go out and get the GW1 series just so that they can understand everything, and also that all of us veteran GW1 players should have some sort of closure letting us get on with GW2 more easily.

The only thing connecting the characters and stuff from GW to GW2 is the hall of monuments and you can keep you name if you connect the accounts.

As has been said by a few posting replies to you, GW:EN is an actual expansion, meaning that you must have Prophecies, Factions, or Nightfall in order to play it. It will also be the end of the original Guild Wars storyline as well as a prelude of things to come.

GW2 will be a stand-alone game with no expansions or new game chapters that you need to buy. All storyline content and changes will be made directly to the servers, and it will still be free. It takes place 200 years after GW:EN, so you will be starting up brand new characters, but with the Hall of Monuments you will be able to not only look at your old GW characters' achievements, but also special items, weapons, and such that you gained, some actually being available for your new characters to use.

All this is covered in the May Issue of PC Gamer. It has an interveiw with the Guild Wars team, an interview about GW:EN, and an interview regarding GW2. An excellent read! =)

"There is an ancient Repticus saying, that something lasts only as long as the last person remembers it. My people have come to trust memory over history. Memory, like fire, is radiant and immutable. Those who renounce the flame of memory in order to put out the dangerous fire of truth: Beware these men, for they are dangerous themselves... and unwise. There are false histories written on the blood of those who might remember, and on those who seek the truth."

Beta testing isn't set to begin till sometime in 2008, so I would guess roughly 2 years. But in the words of John Carmack, it'll be done when it's done and not a moment sooner.

GW:EN is also the close of the CORPG Guild Wars and its transfermation into an MMO wich is GW2 so guild wars was basicly a test to see what was need for the making of the game. "points and laughs" we all payed to be part of a hugh beta and the changing future of MMO's.

Question has been answered. Any further discussion concerning GW2, starting new characters, etc should be done in already established threads in Riverside forum.
