Around late Q3-Q4 this year. Holiday season usually means Christmas shopping.

No. More like anywhere between the end of October and the end of Christmas season. (I'm sure they're shooting for a pre-Christmas release, though.)

See here.

I thought from the very beginnign that "holiday season" was an exceptionally bad choice of words.

Arenanet is an American company, and "The Holidays" to us means the period starting at Thanksgiving (fourth thursday in nov.) and extending through Christmas Day. That is our traditional holiday season. Anything else would have been specifically mentioned, I imagine.

We don't have "holidays" as such in summer. Hope this info was somewhat helpful to non-Americans.

I asked Gaile about this last time she was in Kamadan... she said that November/December is what they were thinking of as Holiday 2007. Don't bet on seeing it before Hallowe'en.

Bloody hell. Am I the only Brit that took it as the late summer holidays?

How can a campaign take just over 6 months but an expansion over 12?
[edit] yes i know the campaigns had 2 teams working 12 months ahead for them. So surely that means GW:EN will have had 18 months by release?

In North America, a "holiday" is a government-mandated work closing. We call non-official days off a "vacation", which can occur at any time of the year.

The "holiday season" is normally from the end of November through New Year's Day (January 1st).

guys, from the official ANet/NCSoft press releases, its slated for a Q3 release, that means July/August/September...

Maybe Alex Weekes would like to jump in on this one and add a little more clarification on timeframes?

Actually it only says Q3 on the EU page, and that could've resulted from miscommunication. There was also another misleading statement about the release date in one of the interviews. They thought they meant it would be out this summer, what they actually meant is it will likely be playable at PAX this summer.

Just speculation, but Halloween would mark one year from the release of Nightfall, and is also sort of the kick-off to the American holiday season.

During the 10 years I managed retail software stores in the US, Holiday releases all came late September early October to make sure they were on the shelves for Christmas etc. It may have changed in the last 5 years but I doubt it

As an American, all films/movies/game etc slated for Holiday Season are infact scheduled for release in the forth quarter. However, I agree that it starts a little bit earlier then others have suggested. Christmas crud is already for sale at any Wal-mart and retail chain in the country long before Thanksgiving. I'd say early novemember/late october at the earliest.
