How about some positive comments instead of bashing GW.

I know we would all like to see the game be better: but some peolple just hate to admit it's a damn good game even as it is. Just give ANET credit for creating a game that we all really like to to play even with some shortfalls.
Aerian_Skybane
Whoever said it before about watching and laughing, priceless. Its what I do half the time. Its a forum, forum = scumbag teenager entitlement beliefs. Yes, there are some valid suggestions (ala not complaints), but honestly, if the game is so messed up with so much wrong, why is it one of the most successful games in the world?
For example. A common bitch topic on this site is storage. Are there any game developers on these boards that actually work for Anet? I don't think so. The common adage of "its easy to do, I am a programmer, I know" is full of a hot steaming pile. Do you have their source code? I hope not, that would be bad for Anet. Just because something is modular, doesn't make it a breeze to program something new in. But people still complain, every update they do bring s it up again, even though they have confirmed its presence in planning somehow or another. Do I want an Auction House, of course! But what discourse can I continue beyond that? Most complaints are people starting a Rabble riot without any helpful thoughts, that actually negatively impact the people who would make those changes. It is counter productive.
Simply said, if a project gets a customer "request" (in this case complaint), in my line of work, we attempt to engineer a solution. If it is, I would really like to cut the heat off of this circuit board, it is something we can look at. If it is, we need a flux capacitor on this thing, we COULD lie and say, hey, sure, but its not possible, so we don't.
I enjoy the game. The irony of complaining about complainers is def not lost on me.

Aerian...
I hope you haven't gone too far away. I have a question you might be able to answer.
I work in a field where we store stuff on servers. And everytime we add a new server (we've just over 100 terabytes of server space now), it costs us a couple hundred thousand dollars and then some. Now as far as I can tell (I could be soooo wrong) the weapons, armor, minis, etc that we accumulate in GW equal data that has to be stored on servers.
I'm guessing there are at least two million of us (who play the game for free) and, if ANet were to increase storage space for all account holders even by 50%, they would have to also increase their server space for a considerable amount of money.
My question is is this indeed a factor that ANet might have to consider, and if so do you have an idea of what kind of fiscal impact we're talking about here?
Thanks!
PS... The irony of complaining about complainers... *shrugs* Yeah it's noticeable, but then I've got a few more advantage miles than most here, and I've learned a lesson or two on the journey. I also have pretty good hindsight when it comes to self-reflection, and I remember 'complaining about complainers' or some things along those lines myself, so I just live and let live... and love them all the same.

As far as the advantage miles go I doubt they surpass mine and what do you have to say about the announcement of more storage coming soon. I wasn't really complaining about the complainers as much as I just would like to see people who like the game to say so. I love this game and just thought that it is nice to let it be known.

Sad. It's true.
Though, don't think you can turn a blind eye because the only thread's you see are mostly negative. Maybe you should count them all, you might be wrong.

Hi Risky...
I was responding to this statement by Aerian when I made the statement you referenced.
Does it make more sense now? That's why I addressed that post to him.
I will happily NOT debate that with you. After all we're as young as we feel... right?
I said this yesterday: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...2&postcount=33
Now THAT I can relate to. Since the function to find my previous posts has been disabled, I can't find any to show you, but I can assure you they would help to satisfy your need to see positive responses to the game.
As an amateur 3D artist, I have had experience with another dev team. I know how bad it can be, and I am absolutely enamored with GW AND ANet. The graphics are beautiful. The game mechanics are very clever and entertaining. The animation is excellent. There's a lot of humor whether subtle or obvious permeating everything. I think everyone on the entire ANet team is mega talented... artists, modelers, coders, marketing team, Gaile... everyone. And I am delighted and grateful that they are responsive to, communicative with and respectful of their players. I'm delighted and grateful at every special event and every special treat they give us (which are many). I especially admire Gaile's dedication to her task and her composure, aplomb and grace under fire in this forum.
In short, I'm a very content player... just as you are.
Terra Xin...
If your post was addressed to me, I'm confused and don't know how to answer. If it wasn't addressed to me, but instead you used my post as an illustration or something like that, I'm happy I don't have to answer. I've already said enough... PHEW Ciao for now.

But anyway...
Templates were a cool addition (even though the popup is persistent and covers up the template names)
The skill duration bar is nice.
The storage update is nice (although it's come 2 years too late)
Reconnects are nice (although, again, 2 years too late)
The recent update to Crippling Slash was good, albeit a bit too good imo.
I guess it's good that they reverted the attribute point thing... just as I was getting used to the new convention.
Meh, I tried.

The current template system will be like the Youtube, MSN, PeerToPeer Filesharing of the Internet, or even the Internet itself. It has the potential to "connect" people.
Onarik Amrak
I like the new template thing. Got a few laughs from guildies when I posted Echo+Mending lol.
I love the new timers for duration enchants and stances. Great stuff.

Now that the template pop up is disabled in local chat and trade chat, I take back what I said.

I love how when everyone complains about something then A-Net puts it in the game for them being good people and then everyone complains about putting it in.
I wish all you people could appreciate the game and quit moaning and groaning at least they update the game. When people played Contra for NES they didnt get updates for shit that didnt work. Quit complaining about what ANET does and appreciate the RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing game!!!!

I very much like the Storage Update, welll over due, and the ranked/rating Hero Battle system is kinda cool, despite an unbalanced meta, and AI issues.

So the measures that are needed to prevent that idiot noob immature little teenager to do his things before the update is still applicable now.
If you can use that pop-up to steal ectos in your storage, yea disable that popup in local chat/trade chat. But I don't see any reasons unless it's for client performance reasons.

there are a lot of positive comments, its just that negative comments are more emotional and therefore tend to be remembered more.
also, if anet didnt keep trashing the pve side of the game by balancing skills always in favor of the pvp side then maybe there would also be less belly aching.
but seriously, i am for one, tired of this developer. i guess it was a good thing they left blizzard before WoW came into being otherwise they would have ruined that too.

*Scratches head* Hmm...
No subscription fee. Hopefully. *Shrug*
Still, it's hard to have positive comments, when the already gaping chasm between PvE'ers and PvPers is being ripped further apart by ANET.

we log in, get our account info from the them, asks the db to tell our client what to render and with what stats.
2 million customers with say 50kb for each account, is 93.13226 gigabytes of data.
if you deal in data storage you know how much text can be held in a 50kb size text file. quiet alot. more then enough to handle an entire accounts data.
now i dont know the game mechanics behind guildwars, but what i stated above is how it worked on another mmorpg game i played. and the account files were much smaller. 4-6kb in size.
but its pretty much common sense to store as much client side as possible while keeping game security a non issue.

It's pretty logical- if I didn't care, I'd sell my GW (or not) and I'd just stop playing it And, yeah, I still play And I still complain Because I want GW to be the best game I care ^^ |

No, I wasn't addressing it to you directly but used it as a means to add to the rest of the comments. It's nice to see that most people can say good things about the game, but you still get those that still have to get there bitching in no matter what. Thanks for all the positive replies and even the negative too. I suppose if you didn't really care you wouldn't read and post any comments at all.

Thank you for your response.
When I first started tinkering with 3D modeling (low poly for the internet), I had an older computer with a 2.1 gb SCSI hard dive, and I can't remember how much RAM, but it was way below the minimum requirement today. So it was more than problematic for me to run 3DSM or Maya on my system. I did try though. I have a '3D' brain, and it was really easy for me to see the numerical values of the points in space, so... I learned the language and proceeded to write the 3D model files myself in ASCII using notepad or editpad... even MSWord, so... yes... having tried to squeeze a 3D model or two, low poly or not, into a text file, I am quite familiar with the limits.
Where I work, we store uncompressed movies for remastering and daily footage (dailies) of films and television shows on our servers, which is huge amounts of data that far exceed the limits of text files, so I think my perspective projection is understandable... yes? no? And your example was great for bringing it in line w/ a low poly 3D program. Thanks again.
Sir Kilgore
I've done my share of Anet bashing in the past, but not this time.
Just some quick comments about the latest update:
Love the extra storage!
Love the duration meters for enchantments, hexes, and conditions!
Haven't tried the pet controls yet, but if they work as advertised I love them already!
In short thanks for a great update.
The only problem I've had so far is that the interface locks up on me when I try to save a template since the update, but I'm hoping that issue will be fixed soon.
Thanks again guys!
