NCsoft® Europe and ArenaNet® are delighted to announce that following the recent Polish localisation launch, the award winning Guild Wars® franchise will now also be available for Russian players in their native language from 19th April 2007. The epic saga of Guild Wars®, Guild Wars Factions™ and Guild Wars Nightfall™ has proved to be very successful with Russian players, currently available at stores with localised Russian box and instructions. New and existing Russian players will shortly experience an even greater immersion into these epic adventures, as Russian becomes the latest in-game language to be included, continuing Guild Wars expansion into new markets around the world. Unlike other online role-playing games, Guild Wars does not divide users of different languages onto different servers, but instead allows players from around the world to play together. "We are delighted by the overwhelming enthusiasm of Russian players for Guild Wars", said Max Brown, NCsoft Europe Sales and Operations Director. "With fully localised versions of all three Guild Wars titles, there will be no obstacles to prevent all Russian players, new and old from fully experiencing the wonders of the Guild Wars campaigns." |

Maybe its time for Anet to return (yes, return) support for all charsets to GW.
Yes, long time ago we were able to type all those wonderfull "ěščřžýáíéůú" (now only half of em are displayable in gw) chars that make my native laguage work, people were able to type Azbuka too. Hell, people were able to type in korean/chinese if they wished to.
Yet it got removed for no apratent reason, and all pleas to reintroduce it failed.

Well it says it's already available in Russia, but now it'll actually support Russian.

I don't know about other languages, but Guild Wars still supports Asian fontsets. I can still type in Chinese without a problem. You do need to enable IME Character Sets in the game options, and make sure that Windows supports it, of course.

About DAMN TIME too! Anet should have done it 2 years ago! >_>...sheesh! they only now getting where big chank of money is gonna come from.

Congrats to Russia. The "Cold War" is long over, Long Live GUILD WARS! =D

How quickly a post about language implementation can turn into a political debate (or nation-flame, if you will)... sheesh... calm down...
Nice they can play in their own language... Good for them...
Now for the dutch :P
Not that I'll want to play in dutch, though, used to the english

Sounds great. I love Russkies even tho most of the Finns hate them for causing us a lot of trouble in the past. Anyways, I see a lot of Russians in Pre asking if someone's russian (Russkie eCtb) or something like that.
Russia is a huge nation with a pretty nice population and I'm sure GW will get a lot of players from there. Thanks a net.

I hope Anet have influence on Buka, cause last time Buka delayed Nightfall till February! and all that they make to "publish" it is just translated manual. Most russian players bought in-game serials or ordered european version from amazon and simular just cause that was far more quicker to get in touch with NF.
Either Buka announced in-game item (separated from official, targeted on "russian style" item) contest with NF as prizes but there was no final or published results or winners and after they announce start they said nothing more about results. I know Buka is one of the biggest Russian publishers but sometimes they acts not clear.
No matter of results or will they publish EotN same day as Euro version - i wont going to buy any buka titles anymore =(

Oooh, this sounds good! Maybe I can get relatives of mine back in Moscow to play somehow...
I assume that language addition will allow us who own the game already to swap between English and Russian at will? It would be fun to read what the skills and such are called in my (1st) native language...

Question to Anet:
There will be russian districts or it's just language support?
