firestone2489
So I started out playing the dervish going for the build Mirror of Ice Scythe and its a great build but i wanted another build that might be more effective ive been testing this build for a couple of days and i like it and i was wondering if anyone would help test it and give me some feed back
Mysticism -- 12+1+1
Scythe Mastery -- 12+1
Armor -- Wind Walker Insignias
Scythe -- Anything, I'M Thinking a Vampiric Scythe of Enchanting or Fortitude with the inscription "Guided by Fate" or "Strength and Honor"
Skills
Mystic Sweep
Eremites Attack
Chilling Victory**
Avatar of Balthazar (elite)
Mystic Vigor
Zealous renewal***
Heart of Holy Flame
Rez of any kind
**Could probably be substituted with Rending Sweep or Victorious Sweep
***Could be replaced with Heart of Fury
Well thats my idea so plz give me comments on it and constructive criticism

pretty good build, this is almost the same as the one i use, mine's just more focuses on tanking then doing damage but it still get some good attackes in. i would put in mystic regeneration in there cause a good regeneration is always nice. probaly for an attack skill.
firestone2489
that is a good idea. i put the mystic vigor in there for self heal, but that could be better than zealous renewal the only thing is that to get good regen out of it you have to sacrifice stat points from scythe mastery and mysticism, but it could be more of a tank that way

Glad you like the mirror of ice build, i wrote it
sorry to say i dont like your's so much. Its not horrible, but avatat of balthazar is kinda a waste of an elite. I would do something like this:
Mysticism -- 10+1+1
Scythe Mastery -- 12+1
Earth Prayers -- 8
[skill]Mystic Sweep[/skill]
[skill]Eremite's Attack[/skill]
[skill]Reaper's Sweep[/skill]
[skill]Mending Touch[/skill] kinda optional
[skill]Mystic Vigor[/skill]
[skill]Mystic Regeneration[/skill]
[skill]Conviction[/skill]
[skill]Rebirth[/skill]
thats what iv been using recently

thats what iv been using recently Yup, that's what I've been loving lately (except with Crippling Sweep when used in Arenas). However, I think I'll be diversifying a bit with the new update. I've started playing with enchantless builds using Natural Healing that have been pretty fun, but time will tell if I actually stick with this in anything outside of RA, lol.

that looks good the only problem is that i cant get those skills yet, (im still working on sunspear general) and what could be used in place of the healing skill another attack?
Coloneh
dont replace them, just do some random arena and unlock them with balthazar faction. then you can buy them at kamadan.
firestone2489
i like conviction and mystic regen but i really love avatar of balthazar. Is it a waste because it doesn't add enough benefit later on in the game?i could see how it wouldn't be good later but now its awesome
Van vincing
i wudn't relly agree wif finkin balthazar sucks, n im not here to offend anyone. Balthazar's +40 armour reduces dmgs by a half (not exaggeration, it is reduced by half) the high speed allows u to quikly get through cursers tht wud otherwise stop u from gettin to the back line to attack monks, n the holy dmg makes u incredibly powerful agaisnt minions n undeads
Coloneh
the armor from Balthazar is overkill, conviction is fine.
the speed boost is nice once in awhile, but harrier's haste adds damage.
the holy damage is only useful for a few very specific areas of the game, and then you could use heart of holy flame or judge's insight.
other dervishe elites are better. melandru will prevent more damage. its not worth the space on your bar when you could have reaper's sweep or wounding strike.

well it seems like it wud take up 3 slots to have the same effects as one elite skill. However, Im not here to offend anyone n I do knw tht sum ppl wudn't agree wif me, but ths fine.
I used to use reaper sweep, but the 8 second recharge isn't tht great especially when there is a high chance of dealing 0 dmg or even missin in torment areas, but it is my thoughts so watever.

those 3 slots are utilities that you wont usually need. reapers will always deal at least 34 damage with 12 scythe. thats bonus damage, its armor ignoring, seems like you havent tried it.
firestone2489
i dont see how more armor is overkill i mean how is it possible to have too much armor
.Unanimous.

the point of conviction and reaper's is that avatars suck so reaper's is really the only option for an elite (wounding is alright, but i like the bonus damage), and conviction is to keep you alive so your not a pair of bone minions. HoF really dosnt add THAT much damage, and HoHF is only useful with twin moon sweep.
firestone2489
i think its a matter of personal opinion, unless there i get further and experience that avatar of balthazar isn't a valuable avatar then i wont use it. i guess i just haven't seen enough evidence saying avatar of balthazar is worthless.
firestone2489
How about this
Mysticism:13 (11+1 +1)
Earth Prayers: 8
Scythe Mastery:12 (11+1)
[skill]Mystic Sweep[/skill]
[skill]Eremite's Attack[/skill]
[skill]Victorious Sweep[/skill]*
[skill]Avatar of Balthazar[/skill]
[skill]Faithful Intervention[/skill]
[skill]Mystic Regeneration[/skill]
[skill]Conviction[/skill]
[skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]**
*can be swapped out for attack skills
**can be swapped out for hard rez
This works fairly well in random arenas but i havent tested it on PvE so it could tank really well

well i would switch [wiki]Faithful Intervention[/wiki] for [wiki]Mystic Vigor[/wiki]
Coloneh
how about not using avatar of Balthazar because it sucks.
.Unanimous.
nah i think that's good, avatar gives extra armour, on top of conviction you get +64 armour...woa. and with the regen from mystic regen, and safety measure with faitfull intervention, i reckon it could tank pretty well. i think you COULD handle with +40 armour though and more health so i WOULD go with mystic Vigor over conviction, but that's just me.

Dude thanks for your opinion earlier but now you're just trolling...We get it you dont like avatar of bathazar, but everbody else ive talked to says its a great skill so if you dont have any CONSTRUCTIVE criticism then plz dont post on this thread anymore
I put conviction in so there because i dont have the max def. armor yet im still saving and buying steel

i never actually capped this skill when i was low-level but now i'm high level, i cant find ANY decent groups who can ACTUALLy cap it, it SUX lol.
however if i DID have it i would definatly use this build, gj.

to cap it youll probably need an mm and a couple of nukers
Dinkytowner
Quit tanking and kill some stuff. Avatar of Balth is trash.

how do you expect to be in the front lines doing damage without being able to tank
Dinkytowner
Monks are there for a reason and many of them will carry a handy skill called prot spirit. But in the even you have bad monks or bad hero monk builds, you already have at least two high quality survival skills in mystic regen and conviction already on your bar. Take Reaper's or Melandru's/Werying strike (I can't spell, but the one one that causes deep wound on them and weakness on you). Derv's kill things. You get a 9-41 weapon for a reason, use it. Monks keep you alive.
firestone2489
ive been mostly using the build for henching quests and have not had a monk that was competent

Most of the forms are gimmicks in PvE. PvP they have some utility since the matches rarely last long enough for you to be gimped by the high recharge times. Still as far as gimmick skills go though AoB blows more than the rest. +40 armor? Pointless. Any dervish worth their salt will either have conviction or Mystic REgen on their bar. Conviction is plenty of armor bonus and if you don't go that way mystic regen is like a damage sponge by itself. I run Mystic Regen on my EDA build and I top out at +15 pips of regen, granted only 10 at a time can be used but the extra five offsets any degen effects. The run speed is alright but unless you're well running someone somewhere what's the point? Holy Damage? Ha! Pointless unless you are fighting undead. For some reason some people believe that if it says holy damage it ignores armor, unfortunately this is not the case unless it is direct damage instead of weapon based damage. Dwayna and Melandru are probably the better choices for PvE Avatars. Lyssa is nice too for some heavy damage but not much in the way of additional utility. Reapers Sweep or EDA are by far more useful elites to have and EDA can be capped pretty early too.

if you would have further down on the page you might have seen the other build i put up but you wont like it anyway cuz it still has AoB in it

Well I was trying to give you a more objective opinion on why the AoB slot could be better used. Let us examine your more recent build shall we? I like the addition of conviction and Mystic regen and Faithful Intervention is also a good choice since it's maintenance free spike protection. Now you are still using AoB for an elite, which will get you through the first little bit of the game but once you hit, I'd say Desolation or even the latter half of vabbi , the utility is shot. Ebon Dust Aura, is my personal favorite. Basically you can become a blind bot and shut down all melee enemies. Reaper's sweep is great. Huge damage with high scythe mastery and the critical hits, which the dervish excels at, are incredibly powerful. IF you just have a hard on for avatars then might I suggest either Melandru or Dwayna. The reasons you listed for Balthazar were the ability to get to the enemy faster and the higher armor, in other words damage mitigation. Ok With Melandru you gain additional hitpoints, which with your regen = damage mitigation. In addition you are immune to conditions, like cripple, bleeding, burning, deep wound, weakness, poison. In other words your survivability is increased exponentially. With Dwayna we also have overlapping utility with balthazar. while you don't recieve extra hitpoints you do recieve healing when using an attack skill. You also strip a hex when you use an attack skill. Ok right there is your damage mitigation and a lot of snares are hexes, the nastier ones being used by Rain of Terror monsters in the later stages of the game. Balthazar just has a very limited utility in general.
Here let me show you my build it may give you some ideas on what to look for in syngery.
[skill]Victorious Sweep[/skill] This is a low cost scythe attack with good damage and a conditional heal
[skill]Wild Blow[/skill] This one is another low cost attack. Since dervishes don't utilize adrenaline it has almost no downside to it. It ends stances and it's a guranteed critical hit.
[skill]Faithful Intervention[/skill] This is cast immediately upon zoning in. It has no maintenance cost and it is spike protection which can save you. It is also a good indicator of when you are overpressured. If it triggers in combat it's time to kite out and restack your enchants.
[skill]Heart of Fury[/skill] Warriors wish they had this skill in their lines. It is a great IAS and should be precast before combat. when it drops it also drops burning on the enemy so it adds to damage as well as increasing your combat effectiveness.
[skill]Aura of Thorns[/skill] AoE snare and another one that drops a condition upon ending. This one drops bleeding which adds more DoT damage.
[skill]Mystic Regeneration[/skill] One of the better healing skills in the game. Relatively low cost for a lot of oomph. Generally speaking most mobs and even some PvP players cannot outdamage your rate of healing if you have enough enchants on you.
[skill]Ebon Dust Aura[/skill] with an ebon weapon in hand this makes the build. Since it is very difficult to tank in the traditional sense anymore, most enemies will blow past you to try to kill your backline squishies, this skill makes you more valuable since you can keep those melee foes from being able to hit your squishies. A Blind melee enemy is a useless one.

thank you for your objectivity. its been more proof on the usefulness of the skill because all i got from anyone else was that it sucked and all they seemed to want to do is pick a fight. since it is not going to be useful later on i might as well pick up other skills that will be useful. plus reapers sweep will be a good elite till i can cap mirror of ice. thanks for actual insight instead of just attacking me
