mmmmk... Pet "control"
Mesmer in Need
so we just got the new pet control. it consists of the pets hp and 3 commands:
attack- Sik em
defend- act normally
heel- quit ****ing around and come to me!
so... enough control or not?

Retribution X
Fine with me. at least I can Partialy control what my pet does.
VGJustice
Absolutely enough control.
Attack: "Ok, quit RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing attacking the thing we can't hurt and attack THIS one, you fuzzy nublet!" or "Pet, it's time I teach you to draw fire."
Defend: "Keep close to me, just don't do anything stupid."
Heel: "... wait, I can pull them WITHOUT my pet acting like a dumbass? SWEET!!"
Try tapping that Attack button mid fight. Keeps your pet on the right target as you go along.

I actually find that even more useful than the pet control buttons, are the status icons below the pet window. Seeing which pet attack is currently active, which pet buffs (the various Call skills) are active, etc. is very useful, even more as these icons also include a timer bar.
enchanted_joker
Perfect, simple and effective. Attack one enemy and let your pet attack the other.
Rakeman
I do laugh that these basic controls were the "ZOMG PET CONTROLS!!!!!" that Gaile was hyping up. They work nice though.
Mercury Angel
The ability to see the effects on your pet shouldn't be underestimated. Actually knowing what hexes and conditions are on your pet instead of just having to guess off of downwards arrows is quite helpful.
Combined with basic hero controls, and I'm satisfied with it. It's not perfect, but it handles most of the fundamental problems of pet management from the past.
3 heroes and 4 pets makes for some insane clutter though

The Ernada
It's pretty much what I expected it would be. There's really not much more control you can add short of adding their own skill bar. Another possibility is being able to flag them the way you do with heroes but it can get really messy with all the micromanagement.
I'm still doing some tests to see if the nerfs to the pet interrupts were warranted because of the new pet controls. It's more out of curiosity than anything though.

Onarik Amrak
I was kinda expecting more, but whatever. Some better than none.
aaje vhanli
Weak, but gets the job done. I agree that Gaile hyped these up too much.
Effective, though. No complaints here.

It's very nice, I've used a couple times today already. I like that it's nice and simple and not uber complicated too.
wetsparks
i think it is perfect. if i need to break off an attack and run or attack someone else because the enemies rezzed or if i need to pull monsters without worrying about my pet getting in the way, i can control that.
semantic
NOOOOOO!!!!!! WHY DID YOU ADD CONTROLS FOR PETS?!?!? The whole fun of the pet was their fuzzy logic!
OK, j/k. Perfect pet controls. TYVM.

Nemo the Capitalist

is it just me but when i use the pet controls for heroes, the "fight" button cannot be clicked and is used to lock target, shouldnt there be another lock target button and the fight button for aggressive mode instead?
Theus
Personally I would rather if I had to the ability to send my Pet in before hand, instead of still having to initiate combat first.
killercroc
no dp on pets too =) in pve anyways

Hopefully on you tom :P
but ya, i expected a little more. but now its ccol to tell how much dp, what hexes/conditions/ enchants and stuff are on your pet.

Lack of manual movement was likely for PvP, to stop things like using pets to block bridges and such.
XvArchonvX
I like the new pet control. It gives enough to allow the user to keep their pet from messing up aggro, but doesn't allow them to have complete control which would cause some serious balance issues.

I have said all along that all I want for pet controls would be basically what we have for heroes: attack, defend, avoid combat, and follow calls (or the target button if you prefer). Well, at least we have three of the four now .
Croix_Raul
Thank again Anet for Fixing the dumb pet finally they are no longer half wits
Any three out of four aren't half bad so i aren't complaining today

Bowman Artemis
Only one complaint. I want an "Attack this gye rite now even tho I'm not, kk? Just run in tehre." button.
VGJustice
But you have that, Bowman. Select a target yourself (but don't attack or call, just look at it basically) and click "Attack" on the pet screen. Pet runs in and pulls aggro.

I am happy and satisfied with the pet controls, as well as the buff to trapping. My ranger has never ceased to rule, but now he rules more.
guinevere
hmm this is nice, would like an extra move thingy but I guess this would be exploitable in some ways... But I love the heel command, I can actually take a pet and still PULL mobs down... Finally can leave my pet where it should be, at my side, not doing stupid stuff

So no more happy fun times with beast masters + paragon with anthem of flame, "they're on fire" etc. We're all going to be forced into the jelly mould of nothing but 2 searing flames ele and a spare hero for monking or tanking. Don't dare to think of running anything else, something that's actually fun.
But yeah, the pet controls are nice.

Bah @ status bar for pets, this means I can no longer hide dangerous hexes on pets to kill their owners... pity.

Brutal mauling is an attack skill, those chants are triggered by using an attack skill.
Now, those chants no longer affect all allies, only party members - hence does not affect pets.
Coupled with the beastmaster's pet attacks, does not count as an attack skill, and thus does not trigger those chants either.
Means the beastmaster with bear + paragon with chants that buffs attacks, make them deal extra damage / set things burning / crippled / etc. Is utterly and completely killed.
Kas
Finally. Who needs tanking warriors (not that you really need them) in PVE when a pet can do it a lot better than them (AL Buffs, Damage Reduction, Damage...).
J3mo
It's fine this way, simple but effective
Seissor
i think this form of pet control is enough. too complex and it would entail alot of messing about and bugs of its own.
Mordakai
Are these active in pre-searing? Because I didn't see any new controls...
Darksun
The controls are fine, they didn't want you to have perfect, pin point, control.
Although I noticed that my pet attacked even when I had him on Heel. Might be a bug..

Where's the hype?
I try to keep my posts and my chats reasonable, even if I'm enthusiastic about something. I try very hard to not get into "hype mode." Kindly take the time to show me where I did, so that I can learn and avoid doing that in the future.
