Gaile, question.

I am not sure if this is the right place but was hoping to ask a question. Do you know if their is any possibility of the near future maybe being allowed a one time name change or switch of characters? I regret making my mesmer named Mercenary Knight, and want to maybe re-create a warrior with that name but was hoping maybe their would be an update within the future that would say let a 1 time switch chars so I could make a war with a name, then switch them or something?

I bet a lot of people would like to switch a name to a more suiting character, even if it only shows in game but not on your account or something.

You could always delete your mesmer and make a warrior with that name. You've got an hour to use the name once the character you have on your account with the name nolonger exists. After that hour, the name is fair game for anyone.

Heya, well Im a programmer so imo it is definitely *impossible* to make a name switch like that. Its not as simple as switching your char name, every single element that has to do with ur char incl items and such will need to be changed also.

Ill be pretty darn impressed (and confused haha) if they can make that change for ya. 99% no.

Gaile has stated in numerous occasions they do not do this. Live with it or delete your char.

Hilarius, because if you're chars name gets banned you have to rename it so i know that there is a *form* of doing this. But yeah.. they wont do it, just remake.

It's not a huge programming task, no. That's the thing with programming, you can do just about anything half the time. The other half you spend cursing. It's scripting you have a problem with.

But no, they won't ever help you on this issue, mainly because it can be abused. Now, as far as changing a character's appearance, like hairstyle and height, etc... I'm not sure why they deny you THAT. It doesn't make any sense, certainly, beyond changing hair color or style perhaps, but neither does the ability to transform into a walking, talking monster made of candy corn.

Um .. I wouldn't want to work on any DB or program you've designed then.

It's trivial to change a name. All references to the name (weapon customisations, friends lists, etc) are most likely stored just as a unique number, like {2312354-1325124-62353445} and there's a DB that links that number to your name. Change the name in that DB and it will update everywhere.

I sincerely hope you haven't been hardcoding names into DBs all this time.

yes the prograammer is correct... it wont happen.

Every object in the game links to yoour code name it uses to reconise you.

when you create your character it replaces a pre set template with the info u out in.

so yeh....... thats a no or the game will have to self change 1000's of code.
