Burning Barrage

So I was messing around with ideas for AB builds, and tried this out with a burning bowstring and +20% enchantment mod:

Fire Magic: 12
Expertise 10 + 1
Marksmanship 10 + 1 + 2

I really need to unlock more ranger runes...but anyway.

I messed with savage/distracting shot and such in the other slots, but mostly I just spam barrage. I haven't had the chance to actually try this in AB yet - just ran around the Isle of the Nameless and set things on fire.

What I was wondering is if anyone's tried this and found it successful in PVE or AB or whatever? The damage seems a bit low for AB, but the AoE + Burning seems nice for PVE.

Keeping the enchants and hex up was not a problem, energy-wise.

This build has been around for a long, long time... adding another fire skill hardly makes it any different.

Your experties stat is useless, drop it to 9 or boost it to 13.

Someone seems to submit a Conjure Flame + bow attack build about once a month like it's some new combination no one ever thought of and it has been a while since I've seen one of these posts (although the OP in this one doesn't claim it to be new), so I guess we were about due for this. That being said, the recent buff on Conjure skills does at least make this combo worth a second look, although I don't think it's enough to make this type of build show up in higher level type pvp...

Bloodied Blade - I said I was mainly experimenting with Savage and Distracting Shot in my first post. I wasn't sure what I wanted in those two slots at the time, but I can't find much else to put there. Or rather, I can find a lot of things, but most of them just aren't very good.

Also, yes, I am on the CoH forum, and I did play dark scrappers, brutes, and defenders.

Is there anything wrong with using Ignite Arrows with Mark of Rodgort, in place of barrage? It seems like a better option to me. You are sacrificing quite a bit of single target damage, but I think the AOE alone could be worth a second glance.

The barrage + conjure is for the shrines, not other players, and most players don't cluster together anyway. Also, most players don't pack Diversion. Also, paying attention to the buff/debuff bar shows that diversion is in place and I can just stop using barrage for six seconds.

I did say in the first post that the build seemed a bit weak for AB. If/when I do take this into AB, it's probably the only time I'll take it into AB. If I get diverted and/or killed often, so be it.

Otyugh's Cry (5,0,30)
Brutal Strike (10,0,5)
Feral Lunge (5,0,10) / Resurrection Signet


Once your pet is taking aggro, cast Mark of Rodgort and Ignite Arrows. Fire into the crowd setting multiple targets on fire, this is a buffer period allowing your energy to regenerate. Single out one target and have your pet feral lunge to cause bleeding, provided the target is fleshy. Have your pet attack with brutal strike, the singled out target should be at less then 50% health causing brutal strike to do double damage. Lastly cast Otyugh's Cry and Heal as One to restore your pet as needed. Ignite Arrows should cause targets to scatter giving your pet a break from time to time, and allowing you to cast heal as one.

If you are not soloing replace Feral Lunge with healing signet .

Feral Lunge can also be swapped out for Poisonous Bite, if you own factions. Feral Lunge does decent damage, but can only cause bleeding if the target is attacking. However, Poisonous Bite does guarantee extra DOT on the target so it's really up to you. If you do choose Poisonous Bite, keep in mind that undead can not be poisoned, feral lunge will at least provide damage.

This way you get to be a beast master, and a pyro

Might not be that good in PvP, but sure does seem like a fun variation on PvE

A ranger alternative to Searing Flames =D
