Farming Rubies and Sapphires?
Curse You
I'm in a bit of a bored state in game nowadays, and I decided to get my paragon Vabbian Armor. The only problem is, upon calculating the cost, I found that it would cost me more than 80k for just the Raiment, because of the Rubies and Sapphires involved.
Now, I'm not big on farming and I have a lot of gold, but looking at the cost, it seems like a better idea to farm than just paying.
So far, I've tried farming Djinn, but it takes me forever to kill them. Also, trade contracts take forever to get.
The question is; what is the fastest place and build for farming for Rubies and Sapphires?

Other than Djinn?
Personally, I farmed UW (sometimes FoW when smites got boring...) and other high-profit places like that, and used the cash to buy the required gems.
Really, apart from the Djinn and their potential gem-salvage drops... Hmm... Beetles drop Geodes that *can* salvage into gems too. Well... I hate to say it, but there ain't really anywhere that you can farm gems other than the Djinn. Or beetles if you're lucky and can stand the squeaking.
Woe is you, I guess

Well, I wouldn't mind learning about any builds you know that are especially effective at farming Djinn.
Coloneh
chest running mirror of lyss drops alot of ruby daggers that you can salvage.

Something that helps with the salvage of rubies is to get some "high salvage value" inscriptions. Then apply them to inscribable (blue, purple, or gold) daggers or other items that have rubies in their description. Then expert salvage them and your chances will go up. Another thing you can do is get trade contracts which are quest items that can be swapped for gems with one of the people in the Bazzar.
Haggard
You may not be big on farming, but by far the most efficient and fastest way to get the gems is to simply farm (or trade, whichever you do best) the money and buy them.

Salvaging from the Djinn essences is at a really low rate; I'd estimate about 5%.
You'll probablly do best just buying them - farming for money will produce more than farming for gems will.

As it's been said, you can salvage then from Djinn essences, but the chances are really slim, it's not really worth it imo.
I got my Vabbian by buying trade contracts from other players.

I hope you paid a fair price and didn't spam the outposts.
Personally, I've been mostly going for Ancient armour - which is more reasonably priced.
Salvaging from essences does work - the the past month I've had 3 or 4 gems from this and haven't really farmed Lyss much. I've basically been running all my characters as far as Vabbi (for treasures) and made a point of killing Djinn, whenever I encounter them. You can then also earn trade contracts with several characters (just doing the quest that leads you to the Bazaar gets you 2).
As for builds - I tend to farm with heroes and swap any attack skills that cause bleeding/poison etc for anything else I've got handy (because they don't work on Djinn). When fighting Djinn, I always get rid of the energy sucking Roaring Ethers first - *except* when there's a Ruby Djinn around. Take those down fast.

Have a look on the wiki to see which items can salvage into them.
I did the Trade Contract quests with a few characters and bought the remaining gems. Salvaging essences is a long shot but stuff like Ruby Daggers and Jewelled Daggers have a good chance with Measure for Measure on them.

Yeah, I know, but I've only recently started using Necro and Monk, so don't have the skills for the farming builds.
I do solo some areas (with my "developed" characters - Dervish, Ranger & Assassin), but trickier places I go with heroes, because the drops are reasonable in a "team" of 4 and it's not too much stress.

Maybe this build would help out (unless you've already tried this as N/Mo variation);

Given that you need a Monk halfway through NF with SV.

ShadowsRequiem
Jeweled daggers, ruby mauls, ruby daggers, irridescent aegis, diamond aegis i've all seen gems come from those, but vabbi sounds like a good place to be to farm some of those weapon types if u feel up to it
I've gotten gems from white jewel daggers so even if they dont have an inscription u can still get a gem.
or get a slave to farm trade contracts for you :P its what i did lol
