Disenchantment Course

I just bought GuildWars a few days ago and I started up as a Mesmer. I have finished my Sunqua Vale training and need to finish my training with Instructor Ng. To do so, I must finish a quest called Disenchantment Course.

The description of the quest says I need to use my disenchantment spell (Shatter Enchantment) to stop Pe Wan. However, after many attempts (and when I say many, I mean at least 30) I have not been successful.

This is how a usual match against Pe Wan goes for me: I start with a few damaging spells against him. Then, when he uses Light Sheath, I use Shatter Enchantment. After that, he uses Light Sheath again and I have to wait 25 seconds to use Shatter Enchantment a second time. Thus, I'm left to use Ether Feast (my only means of getting health) to stay alive until that time. This goes on for a while until I am inevitably defeated.

How do I fight him? I've tried just about everything: elementalist spells (my second profession), enchantments of my own, hexes. None have worked.

I have found that some of the training courses were just to hard to finish at an early level. I consider it a design flaw.
I usually just go ahead and do some more quests/missions and come back a few levels higher and breeze through them.

Thanks for the reply, Redfeather1975. I'll try that for any other training missions I find too hard. I actually just beat the mission now by shoving all my skill points into fire magic and just started pummeling him with Flare.

Thanks. This thread can now be deleted.

Actually, if I remember correctly, when the fight starts just go ahead and use shatter enchantments before he does anything. You'll remove the "quest enchant" he has on, tho it's not showing.

Maybe you have another disenchant spell from your secondary ?
You can buy drain enchantment (inspiration) as well...

Ya, brute force is always a good back up.

As for playing a Mesmer, they are a tough class to play especially as your first character. But, it's a mark of honor, Mesmers just have to work out the subtleties more than other professions.

One thing about Guild Wars that always surprises me, is that everytime I think I'm beat or can't overcome something, I leave it for a while before starting fresh and it seems to make all the difference. Sometimes it's just a simple skill change or a change in party composition or just a different approach when entering the battle. Sure, levels make things easier as well, but most of your real challenges will be after you have maxed in level.

Of course, armor and runes make a great difference too when it comes to hedging your bets and giving you an edge.

Brute force is how I usually got through most of the courses. Backfire or something like that from the domination line might help you out. Just remember, that you will want to try to specialize in as few attributes as possible to be as strong as you can in order to accomplish your goal.

Every character I had to do those skill quests, I just attack until they gave up. Most of the time, I never even bothered to do what I was supposed to do. Remove hexes, remove conditions, remove enchantments, etc. Just do damage until they give up. Even the 2-on-1 scenario I faced, beat them both up.
